Neither does Reckoner. Reckoner wasn't great before because he wasn't an effective stumbling block to the large ground creatures from monsters decks on his own. Reckoner doesn't matter all that much when you're opponent just has 3 other beaters waiting in the wings. With Banishing Light and Reprisal...

Bringing Reckoner in against MU seems questionable since they run domestication, but it's unlikely they would board that card in unless they saw some significant creatures.

That said, if I board in Flamespeaker (which I plan on doing) I should board in Reckoner.

Question for those running Shota/Z's updated lists: Vs Monsters: Are you preferring the 4 Reckoner, 1 Reprisal, 2 Mortars plan as opposed to siding into a set of 4 mortars. Vs Mono U (I have not played this in a little while) Are you prefering the flamespeaker + banishing light plan, as opposed to ...

What's the thinking between 2/2 eidolon t/t? Id think that eidolon is most of the time better in the matchups where you want those cards?
Yeah I basically cut Toil // Trouble for Eidolon in the side once I figured out they were good in the same places.

But I can recall some times when I 0'ed and I should have +1'ed. I think I'm way too adverse to risk of any kind, and 0'ing Chandra feels safer to me because if I lose her afterwards I feel like I got value. I think that it's oftentimes fine to 0 in the same situations that you would +1, although +1'ing certainly seems like the better option to me. However, I feel very uncomfortable ticking up Chandra unless it's my current plan for victory or I'm REALLY stabilized. If I'm low on cards, or my board is p...

You'd also have 1-2 elemental tokens depending on how you played it. The key reason your line of play was bad was you denied yourself that wide open opportunity. I fully get that you were trying to waste cards in hand and a favorable board state just to force Chandra down. And what we're trying to ...

I was reading Zem's r/spikes AMA and I realized something about the way I've been building my sideboard. The Shouta list that Zem played to great success is a very grindy list. Just to clarify, Zem, you played Shouta's list this past weekend? Also, you said you wish you had a 4th flamespeaker. Could you elaborate a little? It hurts, but it doesn't end the game. And that's even if they draw it. I think people get really scared of any lifegain, but some is beatable.

Sometimes the Philosophy of Fire isn't even the way we want to go during a game, so them gaining 4 life can sometimes just be irrelevant.

Nylea's Dsiciple isn't that awful. The most I've had it trigger for against me is 4, which yes, is a card, but I've won many of the games I've seen Disciple on the other side of the table and I had no skullcrack in hand.

@Rhyno

I would probably board FDS in against MB on the play, but not on the draw. I would board T/T or EotGR in on both the play and the draw. The latter cards just seem more flexible to me, especially Eidolon, and flexibility is something I value greatly in my SB.

FDS is probably the best SB card against control decks, but you can't really bring it in against anything else, so I try to avoid running it when I can play T/T or EotGR. Both of them I don't mind bringing in against Bx decks. Chandra is definitely poor at adding the extra damage before she dies, bu...

@Josahty 1) Some people like Eidolon, some like YP. I prefer Eidolon when I'm going into a known meta and I know the card is well-positioned; in those situations the card gives a lot of free wins. YP$ might not directly burn your opponent down, but it does add damage, and it gives you all the board ...

Yeah Keening was solid; not amazing, but solid.

I'm currently running a 1/1 split of Keening and Wear // Tear so that I'm less reactive against control but still have the actual disenchant for the situations I need it.

Yeah disenchant effects are really good against control. Sometimes they'll DSphere your Phoenix and you'll just Wear it end of their turn. Other times you'll just take out a Ram immediately. They almost always have something you can hit.

This deck is SUPER grindy, so Chandra is probably pretty good. She draws a card every turn, which is good when the game is going long, but because of the nature of the draw, it also ends the game quickly if the opponent has little action. Her +1 also synergizes with a lot of your spells (Ral Zarek a...

I guess it's reasonable to say that Burn matches up well against Bx's plan, but the raw power of Bx decks makes it tough to beat them if we don't have the answer immediately, and their discard makes having that especially tough.
