Heh.

I actually like Nicol Bolas as a villain, but he's got his hands in a few too many sinister soups.

What's his motivation? Endless power? Returning to old walker status? Becoming stale.

Having a guy who just wants more power all day every day is fine with me, so long as he tries to get it in new ways and those ways are actually explained. Not having any idea why he wanted the Eldrazi released really bugs me.

I'd like to see Bolas as some benign, evil, Smaug-like Walker who is content to be the most powerful and just lives in his little paradise world like he used to, and maybe is occasionally fucked into interaction, but has no grand plans

Nicol Bolas, Most Biggest Wizard 6UUBBBRR
Planeswalker — Bolas
+5: Sit this one out, you deserve a break!
+2: Draw as many cards as you want.
-30: You gain an emblem that says, "Players must refer to you as the biggest and most strongest. Your opponents cannot draw cards."

I think the thing with Bolas is that he's terminally unhappy. He's a control freak who could never be content just sitting around having people worship him because he'd always wonder what everyone outside his circle was plotting. Because of this paranoia and need for control, Bolas feels like he needs to be a few steps ahead of everyone in the scheming department.

Innistrad and Dark Ascension did an excellent job creating a feeling of horror and desperation while clinging to the idea that something, anything, will come save you. Endless Ranks of the Dead exemplifies that effect through the artwork alone. And then Avacyn Restored flushed all that down the crapper.

Return to Ravnica felt like a confusing mess from start to finish. I'm still not sure what we were supposed to get out of all that. It kept hinting at something grand taking place, and then utterly failed to deliver. Dragon's Maze just never made sense.

Theros should have been a flavor triumph with impressive heroes and epic monsters. Instead, it feels kinda stale.

So far, I'm liking Khans and Fate Reforged, though ultimately that's dependent on Dragons and how the story plays out and the mechanics interact with each other.

I really want to see more of the artwork for Origins. I hope it's on the level of the two pieces we've seen.

Return to Ravnica's flavour was pretty bad, yeah. The Gateless were talked about all over the cards, but never amounted to anything at all. Dragon's Maze was just overall a terrible plotline.

I thought Theros was okay though. A bit heavy on the filler, I guess, but the cards effectively portrayed the world at least.

I really enjoyed arena as a kid, I don't know how it would hold up if I went back to it. That said, I was disappointed when thenretconned that book into oblivion.
You post on dtr? Cool? Honestly, I don't know who posts there and who doesn't.
I actually read that site quite a bit but its mostly because a lot of the people I used to interact with on MTGS are over there.
It should be a privilege to post here

How about a cycle of noncycles! 5 sets of 4 cards, each missing one of the colours! Someone tell Wizards, 'cause I'm coming with my resume in hand.

WHY DID THEY GIVE ALESHA A GIRL NAME IF HE WAS A BOY
He had a boys name, then he chose a girls name because in the Mardu clan you choose your name as a rite of passage

Replace all those he's with she's

But not he she's

I mean the whole point of the lore being outside the cards is now you know about magic cards by reading long articles posted at wizards schedule and behest instead of just the cards you're playing with because you like playing magic the gathering
