I usually end up playing Jund in round 4 of every Modern daily. It's happened 3 times and I never draw my Blood Moon. Those feels!

Thanks for the welcome gents. Back to my old account, thanks to Spambolic.

Currently putting together Red for post-rotation, pretty much gonna test the hell out of the list Z posted then make changes from there. I'll let ya'll know how that works out.

RE, pay-it-forward: Red, if you want to move my name down a couple ticks that's fine, considering my extended absence.

I find GB pretty easy with UB honestly. The only problem card is Liliana; how are you siding?

-4 Augur of Bolas, -1 Doom Blade, -1 Opportunity, -2 Curse of Death's Hold, +2 Negate, +2 Duress, +2 Pithing Needle, +2 Devour Flesh

Pretty sure BG is the worst matchup for this deck. I have no idea how you can find it easy.

Z:

Do you still have your playset of Bonfires on MTGO? I'd like to test a big red build with them. I can offer my Dark Confidants as collateral.

Dunno. Just a master I suppose? I have most difficulty with BTE draws a d that's about it. Our lists are built a bit differently I guess.

Seeing a lot of 3-colour midrange for rotation with 12 shocks and 8 scrylands - flipping' LOL. Rx Aggro it is!

Yeah, those slow mana bases are making me thing Aggro Midrange will be ridiculous. Pop them for a good bit of early life loss so by the time they actually start playing the game you only have to push through 10 or so more damage.

Our lists are almost identical so either I don't understand the matchup or I'm just plain unlucky. Seems like my opponent always has Liliana and when he doesn't or I counter it or Needle it he has a Garruk or Vraska and I eventually can't deal with him in time.

no kidding, played against jund with siezes and sire as the top end, and I crushed them with your list thirst.

btw, what do you think of the board for your deck.

I think imma go with:

3 Mindsparker
2 Renouce the Guilds
3 Wear/Tear
3 Boros Charm
1 Mizzium Mortars
1 Boros Reckoner
1 Lightning Strike
1 Chained to the Rocks

to start. Probably bad, but whatever

I don't really want to speculate on what I'd play in the SB with no real experience testing the list and no real clue what the meta will look like.

I was thinking Aurelia's Fury might be worth testing in a slower meta, though.

Boros Aggro midrange has been very good so far, heavily favoured against any 3 colour deck I have seen because:
- they're slow and you can hit pretty hard quickly
- there just isn't much playable life gain early and you have a LOT of burn
- hammer of Purphorous isn't a realistic magic card

I think UW control will be harder, but Omenspeaker is worse than Augur, they don't have any good spell-lands, Restoration Angel etc; so they're Sphinx's Rev x 2 or bust and they're still dead to a resolved Chandra game 1.

GB midrange is maybe threatening because of Desecration Demon, but that's really it. They don't have Thragtusk anymore and Lifebane Zombie is embarrassing against you on your non-Reckoner draws.

If nothing else, new format, people play bad decks. Having a consultant deck with a focused game plan is a great place to start.

He said post rotation standard, so it will be a few weeks. I would say that likelihood of him fronting up are very low though.

I haven't played against it yet, but it would seem that U/B would be a natural foil to Boros. 1 for 1 you until you pull ahead with a haymaker finisher... seems like a good plan.

Except they have no cheap card draw or life gain, so you just burn them out as they take forever to win. Also can't beat a resolved Chandra. UB is close to a critical mass of good cards, but they're missing a few key elements. They just don't have the right mix of 1 and 2 cost spells to see them through to the end game right now; losing think twice and alchemy really hurts them as the next best alternatives, pilfered plans and read the bones, are sorceries and expose you very badly.

But yeah, UB is very weak to walkers game 1 and Chandra in particular is a nightmare.

I imagine you could also play Assemble in the SB if UB Control got popular - they can always discard/counter it, but those are both pretty terrible against the deck in general and I don't think the rest of the deck can do much against Assemble once it hits play.

Just spent 10 minutes trying to build a playable UB deck and I just can't. They're all awful. I'm probably missing some key interactions to get you there, as there are a LOT of powerful cards in those colours.

I'll likely be playing Boros midrange as well, but without the Reckoners for a bit since I sold mine right before they started dropping in price (hooray profits!).

I don't even think Reckoner is that good. Shock, Zealot and Reckoner have been 'good, not great'. Every other card has been terrific. Still, when Boris Reckoner is the worst card in your deck, things are very good. For those who didn't see my starting list the first time:

4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

4 Chandra, Pyromaster

1 Hammer of Purphorous

4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Shock

4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
11 Mountain
4 Plains

Mana base can be turned (probably wants a 13th white source, truth be told), and the exact spell collection is subject to change, but you get the idea.

Tis me. I locked myself out of the other account (the email & password were both changed the day I left; I assume a mod could verify that fact).
I PMed you with a new password for your old account.
And I've changed the TotesHelios posts to Helios (should be easier on future search's). I've left the TotesHelios account alone, but I can always delete it if you want.
