my roommate's mother has stopped covering his part of the rent freshly after graduating and before he has had the opportunity to find a full-time job (albeit he is not pursuing this as aggressively as he should nor with the open mind he should have), so we can't afford to live where we were and we don't have the kind of financial backing we had when his mother was covering 2/3 of the rent. the situation we were in was the result of not being permitted to move into a 138th st brownstone 2nd floor walk-up that was in our price range because her baby couldn't live in harlem and i resent his mother to this day for this fact.

he works part time at a small designer's studio and gets paid under the table. he was promised production work/stuff along the lines of what he wants to do and went to school for, but is usually tabled to cut fabric. i suggested he aggressively pursue any full-time job openings that could prospectively lead him to work in the position he's aiming for, but his bullheadedness and pickyness has resulted in some furious resistance to actually getting the number of applications out one needs to get a job in this job climate.

We opted out of going this year cause we decided that end of the year we will do mall of America and next year go to a better fucking con. Last time I went to otakon was 2004 and then it felt too bunched up.
