What is The Called?
it's basically the original clan of mtgs. it was a holdover from mtgnews and housed such esteemed members as rancored_elf, rianalnn, and this site's own mogadishu jones.

Galspanic: masterraids flamed ouy via PM and will be back in 3 weeks.
Apparently "fuck off" is not an acceptable response to moderation.
Eric, Ren and Jensen were activists
Heads loaded with theory, their hearts are filled with passion
Shared the same left wing politics
Liked the same music, they were part of the protest movement
Now, Anna presented herself as a feminist
Studied the way they talked and dressed
Fashioned herself an anarchist
Eric fell in love with Anna at the meeting of the crime think conference
He didn't know it but Anna was an FBI informant

They been dead... they just had special rules cause they are called. To me they technically died long ago but the final nail was Ria going apeshit.
You know, one day someone back there -someone who wasn't involved waist deep in all the shit that went through- someone will ponder to himself if all this was worth it:

Lying, antagonizing and harassing one of the (now former) communities of MTGS, cleaning house of half the members of a clan because they happened to make part of the aforementioned group of people, explicitly showing the door to another clan (as Sene explicitly posted) because they did not conform to the "ideals" of MTGS, at the same time expelling very competent deckbuilders (this site's gain, but that is beyond the
point), and stubbornly keeping staff who are patently unfit for the job because they have to show the general populace that the staff doesn't yield to peer pressure (it doesn't matter that the demands were legitimate).

This fabled day someone will look at what their site turned into, to all the bad blood these illegitimate actions fostered, inside and outside mtgs, and this fabled person will wonder if the site really reaped that much rewards from the considerable efforts that the staff put into antagonizing people who were simply minding their own business. I really hope someone will make a balance on all that was taken, and the few that was given(?).

I say someone, one day, because it will have too be a person with their head properly placed over their shoulders, and we know that everyone who was involved in these whole ordeals still acts like they are defending a crumbling castle from neverending raids by hordes of barbarians. all the cards, suspensions and bannings are more than evidence that
there still isn't a single one of them capable of not being blinded by anger and prejudice. And it's been almost a year.

I would ask that person to look back at The Called thread from the summer of 2012. Myself, JJ, and others tried to get everyone to reconcile but Rianalnn, an administrator who thrived by elevating cronies and harassing people over PM, refused to listen to any arguments from the other side. Thus, kpaca was summarily voted out, I left in disgust, soon followed by jj, teefo, etc. Despite the gutter members trying to save The Called (and the gutter itself), the mods in power, whether through fear, cowardice, or apathy, chose to ignore “real” negotiations by setting up a kangaroo discussion thread about how to save the gutter, even though they knew full well that their new corporate masters wanted the gutter
gone. Through their lies and deceit they wasted the time and energy of both groups.

What has the site gained? Even Curse seems to barely acknowledge their new purchase (curse.com doesn’t even list MTGS as one of their top sites!) The public image of the site continues to decline because the mods put policy over people. You even have mods who spend their time doing nothing but writing internet policy for a website devoted to a teenage card game. These are not crusaders for social justice; in fact their collective cowardice during the summer 2012 Called / Gutter debacle shows that their principles come and go whenever their cognitive distress needs relief.

They are basically the stereotypical high school ‘hall monitor’ who takes their job far too seriously. It’s a shame since I spent hours talking to many of them in GRRRR, and I truly hoped they would go to bat for their friends. Sadly this was not the case. Now they seem to fear N_S / other gimmickers because whenever a ‘Korolev’ returns to make one or
two joke posts the mods are instantly reminded of their failures.

They seek to promote community but they can’t reconcile their aims with the fact that they’ve alienated at least two major communities from their site. They finally got to be in the cool kids club. It only took shutting down every other school organization to do it. :toot:

This plus the fact of even before that certain mods basicly have a power struggle to a point where they ousted some on their personal lives and choices. All for the sake of power on a magical card game site.

But maybe just maybe the belief I feel a mod should be someone that doesn't direct a conversation but looks to keep it stable, to stop spam and phishing accounts before they can get going, and general in it for the love of the site they are on is the correct frame of mind... or I can be full of it.

I say someone, one day, because it will have too be a person with their head properly placed over their shoulders, and we know that everyone who was involved in these whole ordeals
still acts like they are defending a crumbling castle from neverending raids by hordes of barbarians. all the cards, suspensions and bannings are more than evidence that there still isn't a single one of them capable of not being blinded by anger and prejudice. And it's been almost a year.
I do always find it funny when some self-proclaimed holistic will claim that through suffering they grow stronger, or that while they may have changed their core personality remains the same (which, btw, is classic AA logic used to excuse their continued dependence); this, while technically correct, is like a body-builder who works one muscle group to the exclusion of all others... thanks to the law of diminishing returns, they work very hard for less benefit and the end result usually does a better job of promoting their flaws than their newfound strengths. True benefit comes through balance, and while a rose growing through concrete or a tree grafted onto the side of of a barren cliff may be a
poignant, even noble image, it pales in comparison to the richness of a plant seeded in good earth.
The farmer who doesn't temper their soil is a fool, the one who plants only one type doubly so.
