UWR Geist
Bant Control
UW Humans
Epic Experiment

Also, there is no "Frites" deck in standard. That is the French Rites deck from old Standard. All current Rites decks originate in the U.S. Americites. Or something. Probably just Rites.

it's a pretty interesting Ramp into Combo deck.

looks like it is transformational. i just played a couple games on mws with it. it's fun but not very interactive and i feel like i won all my games more because my opponents were terrible than because the deck was great. i love a good combo deck tho

Dissipate should be the first four counters anybody wants in their deck, right?

from what I've see, Dissipate is just so much better than Syncopate because it's much better in the mid to late game, which is where everything is going these days. No one is killing fast enough to need Syncopate to force spike whatever they're playing for two mana.

I think this pretty much sums up the current Standard at the moment: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/25 ... ndard.html

But overall, we have a healthy format, even if Junk Rites i currently the "best" deck right now.

The rest of the guys in my playtesting group hit up the Utah Invitationals this last...Sat? They said that Esper Control and Junk Rites were EVERYWHERE.

So, yeah...I guess amongst the good people in my state, those are the decks to beat. I'm very interested to see if what eventually rises to the top is some rogue, or one of the old standbys.

If it isn't a red deck, then I'm voting for some Master Bantomancer/Unexpected Results bastardization. Those matches are hilarious.

Here in the Nagoya area, the top players are playing Bant Control, Naya Blitz / Midrange, Jund, and the Aristocrats.

Esper Control is awful ~ I have no idea why anyone would want to play that.

I personally haven't played against it since GameDay, but I've heard that.

Now, keep in mind, my own play time is pretty limited, due to my wife's work schedule, my school schedule, and the fact that I've got two hellspawn running around my house that mean I can't just flit off to the LGS whenever I please. The wife and I get out to FNM every other week, and the LGS we play constructed at is wildly uncompetitive...like, to the point that one of the regulars LOVES his Teleportal/Cobblebrute deck, and then we go draft after that FNM is over...so it's really not that surprising that I haven't faced a "REAL" deck lately.

One of my playtesting
group that meets on Tuesdays loves his Esper Control, but is working on a G/R aggro/midrangey...thing, since he got tired of mirror matches all over the place at the Invitationals.

I was for a few weeks, then I started seeing too much hate. Vampire Nighthawk, or Thragtusk + Restoration Angel in every deck... :flame:

Are we going to have sub forums here for specific archetypes? How will this work?

up to now we were waiting for opinions from established players on how to organize the forum structure, so if we can all agree to a comprehensive subforum structure, it can be implemented on the fly.

short version: you guys suggest something and we'll implement that.

I'd like a section, which I'm assuming is what Developing should be, where you can post...developing decks.

I know there was recently some hullabaloo about people posting non-competitive decks in the competitive developing section. I just want to know where I can post my Master Bantomancer + r trainwreck, and get advice to make it not suck.

Specifically...it probably wouldn't be regarded as competitive right now, but I'd like to make it as competitive as possible.

As of now you can post whatever you like here. You won't get in trouble for your deck not being competitive or your primer not being in its own subforum. Like Admin said though, ask and yee shall receive is how this is working at the moment.

For now this place probably only needs a competitive board where only people who have ever placed top (number divisible by 8 ) at at least an scg open where you only discuss decklists from top (number easily divisible by 8 ) decklists or whatever take themselves too seriously shit that thread was about at MTGS. Then just a regular standard forum. Smaller, hopefully growing communities don't need tons of subforums. One place for serious competitive discussion where it's assumed you will spend the money on the cards and seriously want to win and get better. Then another place for your budget and home brews, plus whatever else. Just my two cents anyway.

FNM and SCG Open are basically the same thing ;) I would rather read Johnny telling me about a deck he threw together in 5 minutes than half the jank that is featured at an SCG.

SCG Opens are large tournaments held on weekends and hosted by starcitygames.com . They are basically like a big FNM, as the don't attract as many, or as high of quality players as a GP. They are also only held in America, so non-US residents don't generally attend them.

SCG opens are where you watch people misplay mediocre decks on camera and still win money because there opponents are to bad to capitalize. I'm marginalizing the success of open grinders I realize because it's still a 10ish round tourney and you DO need to get lucky to win a large tourney, but the play level quality that you see on camera is atrocious. At least at GPs and Pro Tours where people misplay, there's the actual pressure of getting Pro Points, playing against really good players, and/or trying to play around to many things as opposed to just...stupidness.

As far as esper control goes, I don't think the deck is amazing or anything, but I know that there are a couple modo grinders who routinely 4-0 with weird versions of the deck leading me to think it has enough power to be good. I know that while it will never be popular, if Shaheen Soorani suggest a walker control Esper deck, it will be good and he will top 8
an SCG invitational if he plays in it(the invitational being a highly competitive tourney since many of the SCG writers compete like Kibler, Shaheen, GerryT, and Reid Duke).

RE Competitive Subforums that I would suggest:

Junk Reanimator/midrange

R/x Aggro.

The Aristocrats.

Jund.

Zombies( deserves a subforum since there are 3+ versions of that deck)

UW/x control

Naya Midrange

Naya Blitz

UWR Tempo/midrange whatever you want to label resto angel, augur, and red mana deck.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.
