Only when it wants to

it tends to be incredibly inconsistent

the sexual position formerly known as 69 will now be known as 96 as the price of eating out had gone up.

FWIW, I think RDW as we've mostly been building it and seen it build for the new format sucks.

By sucks, I mean I just don't think any of the shells we've been playing have been any good. I'm thinking more of a Fanatic Red is in order.

Either that or Boros.

One thing I've learned from testing devotion red is that chained to the rocks is REALLY good.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I think that people are dumb to not utilize Purphoros and Hordeling Outburst in the same deck

I was toying with the idea of something like this:

[deck]
Creature 20
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Mogis's Warhound
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

Spells 18
2 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
2 Hall of Triumph
4 Hordeling Outburst
2 Purphoros, God of the Forge
4 Stoke the Flame

Land 22
22 Mountain

Sideboard 15
4 Magma Spray
2 Searing Blood
2 Arc Lightning
3 Eidolon of the Great Revel
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Jeering Instigator
[/deck]

That was gonna be next on my brewing list after I test this later today:

[deck]2 Frenzied Goblin
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
2 War-Name Aspirant
4 Prophetic Flamespeaker
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Fanatic of Mogis

2 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames

1 Hall of Triumph
4 Hammerhand

21 Mountain[/deck]
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

In you're list, I'd be tempted to play titan's strength's over magma jets.

Either's probably fine.

I thought about it. But Magma Jet is probably the better choice since you either want to get to 3 lands fast or send them all away once you get to 3 or 4.

My problem with green is that once you commit to it, you get inbred REALLY quickly trying to beat the other green decks, but most of the lists aren't doing anything especially powerful.

It's a whole lot of jamming your good 4's and 5's into each other and hoping the other guy doesn't do anything sweet like yisan value you to death or wrath your board with pharika+doomwake giant.

Also, FWIW, Devotion red has been beating everything.

I don't think it's the best deck or anything, I just profit from having played the archetype for a solid 8 months to a year.

I'm going to be playing GU, Hour of Need breaks those matches open, and gives you more Yisan options.

Speaking of Polymorph,[card] Polymorphist's Jest[/card] is another reason to play UG. The card is certifiably insane in the Merfolk mirror in Modern, I'm going to jam it in Standard too probably.

Don't worry, I ain't going nowhere. I'm too stupid to go elsewhere and make friends with trolls of lesser stature.

And while Courser is expected to be everywhere, I'm not worried in the slightest about running into it. I know my enemy and I know how to deal with it.
