It's a frog, Purp.
Yeah, Smash is the better choice, but I have to make a meta call. Affinity is guaranteed to be in my area. So it's to my benefit to include Spree. Actually, I'm running a 2/1 split on Smash and Spree.

Thanks for the info Longtoe! I didn't realise you got VMA packs for wins in Legacy! I'm in! What 75 are you running? Is anyone grinding this shit on modo for VMA packs? my win rate is easily over 60%. Eidolon main is a house.
I really like the SCG Open MD but I'm not sure I'll need the Mindbreak traps on MTGO. Thoughts anyone? The MTGO meta is currently UWR Miracles 11%, Shardless BUG 9%, Burn 7.5%, BUG Delver 7%, RUG Delver 6%, ANT 6%, Elves 6%, D&T 6% and Esper Stoneblade 6%.

I'm glad you said this. It makes me realize I have very little experience playing against the Burn mirror in Legacy. In my experience the mirror
Is there anything you can share, LM?

brainstorm sylvan library necropotence top two explores
Honestly I've played the mirror a handful of times with a friend and we came to the conclusion it was a)miserable, b) prolly not worth our time to test, I play in paper and in my meta, virtually no one plays burn (1-2 people do but they hate the deck and usually the next week people start playing combo/reanimator or have burn hate of they do well) and prolly is the same for scg opens (where most burn players usually x-2 drop)
Online, you'd prolly want to test it, and all I noticed was I wanted goblin guide

It was mostly Delver and Merfolk back when I decided to play Legacy again. Since then it's slowly gravitated more to a combo-heavy environment, which is pretty bad for me.Delver circle jerk featuring lands and shardless?

This is what I'm sleeving up for the SCG Legacy Open in Portland. First time I've played the deck in person, but I've won a bunch with Modern Burn and understand who to target with my Lava Spikes, so hopefully I'll be okay. Then I just have to decide between UW/Esper and WR Burn for the standard event and I should be golden.
I should be able to borrow some more fetches, but otherwise I like the list.

9th place at yesterday's SCG Open:
[deck]
Creatures (8)
4 Goblin Guide
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
Spells (32)
2 Sulfuric Vortex
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt

3 Ensnaring Bridge
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Vexing Shusher
2 Pyrostatic Pillar
1 Sulfuric Vortex
3 Searing Blood
2 Smash to Smithereens
[/deck]
Lavamancer took the cut to bring back Flame Rift. And zero fetches. Although, it's probably not a bad decision considering there is no Lava Man and the deck does a lot of self inflicted damage with Eidolon, Vortex, and Flame Rift.
Also, there must be something I'm not getting since almost every decklist I've seen from the Open Series in the last month
has eschewed Mindbreak Trap in favor of Pyrostatic Pillar. My first thought was because of Elves, which makes a lot of sense. But I've also seen some TES lists and Belcher lists. SO confused. Thoughts, anyone?
Burn is at the point where it has a lot of good cards. Maybe too many. But they're all needed. Decisions, decisions....

I agree with removing Lavamancer when fetchless. There isn't enough to feed it. Rift + Eidolon feels a bit too aggressive. Taking 6 in one shot just scares me, I guess. We are definitely at the point where we have more viable cards than slots to put them in. Given what I saw on coverage, the sideboard looks well positioned.

I think it is because Mindbreak is much more focused. You can bring in Pillar against things like Elves and even Delver if you feel aggressive enough. Mindbreak only really works against ANT/TES and High Tide style decks. Also, people often forget that it exists and that we can actually cast a blue card from time to time (heresy, I know).
Personally, I feel safe enough with the 4 Eidolons that I don't need more Pillar-like effects and prefer having the extra defense against Turn 1 kills.

I prefer Pillar over Mindbreak Trap because it's useful in multiple matchups. Trap is only good against combo. I always favor flexible options, especially in a deck like mono red where options are generally limited.
Seems the list above didn't run Grim Lavamancer because he didn't run fetches, and not that he consciously decided to build his deck around not using Lavamancer. I feel that decks running him are superior to those that don't, and furthermore I think it helps to run 12 creatures to increase the number of creature threats that must be answered in the deck.
On a personal note, I ordered foil Bolts, Fireblasts, and 12 matching FAL Mountains last week. Getting closer to an iced out Burn deck that I'll rarely pilot! Still need three foil Goblin Guide, four Eidolon (man, did those shoot up quick), three Sulfuric Vortex (those got printed in foil in Conspiracy), four Rift Bolt, four Lava Spike, and four Searing
Blaze (the last three are pretty cheap). Hopefully the Onslaught fetches get reprinted in Khans so those are easy to acquire in foil as well!

Nice on the foiling. I prefer the older card frame if I get the option and will often choose it over foils (Vortex, Chain Lightning, etc). I still need to foil my land but the thought of spending $500 on basic lands (18-20 Unhinged Mountains) is a bit hard to swallow.
I am not sure if we really want to be on Lavamancer any more. With the additions of Searing Blood and Eidolon, I feel fairly secure against most of the decks that we used to really need it against (BUG, Elves, D&T). It just feels pretty slow otherwise.

All I want is a pack foil Goblin Guide to complete my set. I'm in no rush to get foil Eidolons just yet. I already have foil M10 Lighting Bolts, FNM Rift Bolts, MM Lava Spikes, Searing Blazes (and Bloods), a single Flame Rift, Vexing Shushers, and M12 Lavamancers. I use the Veronique Meignaud Mountains from Zendikar, but I'm thinking of switching over to the Foil Jon Avon Mountains from RTR after Standard rotation.
I truly despise any of the foil Fire and Lightning cards - PoP, Fireblast, etc. I prefer the old border, not just for nostalgic reasons, but for when I port it back and forth for Modern, it's easier to identify the Legacy cards from the Modern cards.

Long live my foil FNM Fireblasts! Now that they are $50, I count myself lucky that I earned my foil MPR Bolts back when they came out. I never thought about ease of switching between decks. That might actually come in handy. Well if I can ever stomach playing the cesspool that is Modern, anyway (I still use white bordered Bolts in my Modern deck).

The judge promos are awesome and all but it is hard to argue with full art foils.
It is almost scary how expensive we can make a $200 deck by blinging it out.

When I signed up for the Rewards, I had JUST missed the Bolts. Sad face. Also, I wasn't playing competitively to get the Fireblasts back then though.Long live my foil FNM Fireblasts!
Here's my awesome system for porting (if anyone's interested):
I have everything in ProFits and then sleeved in KMC Pearl
White. I have 3 deckboxes, 2 are housed in a Fat Pack box (they fit perfectly). The 3rd deckbox (the one signed by Patrick Sullivan) rests in a Mirrodin Beseiged promo box which also houses a box of dice and a pad for keeping track of life totals. This box houses whichever deck I'm bringing to whichever event. Right now it holds my Standard deck -
(I like showing it off)
Anyways, I play pretty much the same deck in all Eternal formats. For Modern it's either RDW or Burn (between the two decks, it's probably only 12-16 cards difference, plus sideboard and manabase). And in Legacy, it's Burn, duh. But, again, there's only about 24 cards different. The main core between all 3 decks is pretty much the same: Searing Blaze, Goblin Guide, Lavamancer, Arid Mesa, Scalding Tarn, Smash to Smithereens, Mountain, etc. You get the idea.
The Red Deck Box in the Fat Pack box holds the whatever
Eternal Format deck is ready to go (right now it's the Modern RDW deck). All of the other cards - the Legacy stuff, the Modern Burn stuff, sideboards, and a few other playables - fit nicely in the White Deck Box and are readily accessible.
After Standard FNM, (since Legacy is on Saturday and Modern is on Monday), I simply take my Standard deck out of the Mirrodin Box and replace it with the other Deck Box. If the Modern deck is already in the deck box, I just grab the 24 or so Legacy cards from the White Box and swap it all out. No muss, no fuss.
Because of this, I've been able to streamline my collection big time.
