I'm not the person to ask about nightlife, my idea of a good time is hanging out with my friends and playing Dokapon Kingdom. If we do go out late at night, it's either to IHOP or Waffle House. We go see Rocky Horror every other week at Cinnebar but beyond that we don't venture outside of the shops too much. We're more the type of people to gather at someone's apartment and play Cards Against Humanity than we are the ones who go out to bars. Jabberwocky will occasionally convince us to go to strip clubs with him, but those trips are usually pretty short since he knows like every stripper in the tri-state area since he used to work at a strip club, and he doesn't want to get wrapped up in stripper drama.SweeeeetSo it looks like I may be moving south. Probably NC or SC area. Where's Alex at in NC?
Alex is in Charlotte, which is close to the border of northwest SC.
I lived in Charlotte for about 16 months and didn't like the city at all: downtown culture is weekday business class, Independence Blvd is a 10-mile dystopian stretch of strip malls, suburban hamlets are super self-contained and boring. Alex can probably hype the good stuff for you, don't let me scare you off.
We're in Raleigh now: better breweries and game shops, vibrant downtown, cool nearby small-town districts
like Carrboro (catching a Neutral Milk Hotel show there @ Merge 25 festival).
Google fiber infrastructure is being built in Cary, parts of Raleigh, RTP at the moment.

The
landscape for game stores around here is pretty vast though. I think we have eight or nine within 20 miles of one another. Be There Games is the closest to my house and I would argue it is also the best place to actually play in the area. Get Some Games is another one up near UNCC but it's kind of in the ghetto, and their play area is pretty small, so we don't spend a lot of time there, if any at all. There's also a few others (The Last Word, Pennyworth's, Your Local Game Store, etc) but none of them have Magic scenes worth mentioning, they mostly play other stuff and sell Magic on the side. Great if you want to crush budcaj's but not very great if you want actual competition. We generally go to Your Local Game Store to play in prereleases because it is an easy way to accrue new product cheaply.
I like Charlotte well enough. My group of friends is particularly varied both in age and life experiences, so I'd like to think that alone makes it worth sticking around. If you're into clubbing and
things I have no Earthly idea about any of that, but there are bros here for sure.
I live in Pineville, which is right on the border of the state line to South Carolina. Five minutes driving north and I'm in Charlotte, five minutes South and I'm in Rock Hill, SC. It's close enough to Charlotte that I can drive a few minutes and go do stuff, but far enough away that the traffic isn't really that bad. Also, gas in South Carolina is significantly cheaper, so I'll drive the extra five minutes from my apartment to get like thirty cents a gallon off.

I won game day at a janky store since they held theirs later in the day and I had work earlier missing out at my LGS.
Not much of a win when majority of the players were literally noobs or just bad at the game. There was a burn deck using Lava Axe. One person thinks you can't exile gods because they're indestructible. One was playing Maze's End with only creatures and no fogs. My final match was against a Bant "Control" that had no shocklands or Sphinx that used a full set of D-Spheres and Banishing Light.
Sure I won the mat, but it felt like kicking a bunch of babies around.

My Game Day was fun. I lost in the finals when I made really dumb decision though. Overall, I felt that the level of competition was pretty good. I seem to have a lot more fun when I play against tier 1 decks than I do when I smash budcajs. I didn't even care about the mat, funnily enough. I was going to give it away if I'd won it. I just wanted to take the whole damn thing down.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

Playing noobs for me is actually worse then not playing magic.
I guess it's like how a master swordsman doesn't want to sully his blade with the blood of unworthy adversaries.
Only in my case, I just can't bare sitting there while opposing neckbeards tell me how they only needed three more turns to mazes end me to death.
Fuck.

You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.

I'm fine with it if there's a purpose.
I sat through Journey into Nyx prerelease at this store full of super, super casual Magic players who were all really bad at sealed because I knew that I was basically paying $25 for one and a half boxes of Journey.
