Seems like lots of people are doing well, shame about the Bg match in top8 - but its nice too see victories against the Monster brews with the MD Eidolon of the Great Revel.

Thanks dude, I read your article and then wrote down your sideboard plan which helped a lot!!!
The one thing I was unsure of was to side in Chains or not in the mirror match. It def lost me a game in the mirror that I lost when I drew into 2x chains and 1x banishing light on a mull to 6.
Are there varied opinions on siding that way for the mirror match or is bringing in chains considered 100% correct?

I don't give my opponents that much credit. I think they're generally going to leave in phoenixes and eidolons, so I'm good with the full set of chains. I also had an opponent bring in Aegis of the Gods .
I did however sideboard banishing light out for a 1 of shock, whick made me happy. Maybe it's just correct to do that. Sure they may recur phoenixes, but you get to shoot vaults. I had literally never played a burn mirror before this weekend, so I defer to MDU.
Stormbreath Dragon did win vs burn everytime I drew it though. I'm a fan of that tech.

I do like the list L_D posted in his article. I will likely run that with 3/3/3 Shock/Searing/Chains, cut the Banishing Light, and fill the empty sideboard slot with a Chandra. Stormbreath just might be enough to give me a chance against Monsters.

So we had our GA States yesterday, it was capped at 100 players due to the store capacity. Not sure why they chose one of the smaller stores in GA but w/e.
Ended up playing LD's list from his article.
[deck]
Creatures (8)
4 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
Lands (23)
2 Mana Confluence
9 Mountain
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
Spells (29)
1 Banishing Light
4 Boros Charm
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Searing Blood
4 Shock
4 Skullcrack
4 Warleader’s Helix
Sideboard (15)
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Firedrinker Satyr
1 Harness by Force
4 Satyr Firedancer
2 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Wear // Tear
[/deck]
I had no previous testing of Eidolon, but YP$ has just not been performing for me for the junk matchup. After last weekend open, I knew I wanted access to SFD so Eidolon seemed like a great fit.
R1: BG Devo (I am going to be refering to
the Mono Black with Green as BG Devo for this report) Lost 2-1.
I dug myself into some holes by playing out too many eidolon, as it was my first time using the card. Eidolon is very weak to them deciding to going all in on packrat. Lesson learned.
R2: BG Devo Won 2-0
Crushed him G1, and he missed a land drop in game 2 and I proceeded to curve out.
R3: Rakdos Aggro Won 2-1
Not much to say about this, double firedancers in G3.
R4: BG Devo Won 2-1
Everyone and their mothers were playing atleast 2-4 staffs in their SB, so I was always bringing in the 2 Wear//Tear no matter what.
R5: Burn Won 2-1
-2 Chains, +2 Wear
R6: Kendall Burdette (top 8 Knoxville open) on BG Devo. Won 2-0, he had to mull to 3 in g2.
He was wearing sunglasses for some reason and I could see every card in his hand off the reflection.
Heading into round 7 I was sitting in 7th place, unable to draw because my opponent would get bumped out.
R7: Burn Win 2-1
-2 Chain +2 Wear - Plays at my LGS, I know he has atleast 1
maybe 2 Blind Obedience in SBs.
Won G1, Lost G2. Won G3. In game 3 I went -4 Phoenix +4 SFD. I didn't want to play Phoenixs incase he hit a turn 2 BO, and I realized I never really like tapping out on t3. Turns out this won me the game.
Heading in to top 8 I was number 1 seed. For some reason the head judge decided not to do the play draw rule, which made no damn sense.
R8: R1 Top 8: Mono Black Win 2-1.
G1 I had to mull to 6 and missed 5 land drops.
G2-G3 Drew very well.
R9: Semis: BG Devo Win 2-0
R10: Finals BG Devo Win 2-1.
For all BG matches, my SB was -4 shock -2 searing blood -2 Boros charm -1 magma jet (sometimes -3 charm if I saw them keeping in Lifebane, i'd add the bloods back in) +2 chain +1 harness +2 wear +4 fds
Moving forward, I would probably change -1 Shock +1 Searing Blood in the MD. It's just SO much better in the mirror. Also, I found that when you get thoughtseized in g1, they are more likely to take searing blood over magma jet. In the SB, I would -1 Harness (I
never drew it all day, but was never in a situation where had I drawn it, I would of won...Much harder to hit 6 lands on 23 mana) +1 Chandra. Comes in for every matchup and is auto win in mirror (most burn players were on the SCG list, unless they were from my lgs and I told them what to play).
Eidolon is pretty amazing, don't think I'll ever go back to YP$. Simply because it doesn't allow for SFD in the SB.
We decided to split packs between the entire top 8, so I left with 21 packs, champ playmat, medal and Invitational Que. All in all good, long day! I was particularly impressed with myself losing round 1, and then battling back to win the next 9.

I actually like that idea quite a bit. However, I'm not sure Chandra is the card we're looking for. 8Orings.dec doesn't really care about her.I do like the list L_D posted in his article. Sorry purp, could you elaborate on your sb plan for the mirror?I actually went Eidolon t2, SFD on t3 keeping up red. he played phoenix triggering 2 from eidolon, I shocked him and triggered SFD to his phoenix. Then played a t4 eidolon. Felt good.
Also, Tear kills eidlon, which was another reason I like bringing it in.

Normally: -2 Chains -1 BL +1 Dragon +2 Wear Tear.
When My opponent has BO: -2 Chain -4 Phoenix +2 Wear +4 SFD
It't too hard to judge whats right or wrong, but I have decided that playing a phoenix on t3 is not usually where I want to be... It's bad when you are on the draw because they have free rain for WLH, and on the play I don't want to run it into a Searing Blood as most people playing burn are not on DtR 4 Shock 2 SB plan.

Do you have a suggestion for that last sideboard slot then? For me, Chandra has proven to be quite a beating against all the aggro decks that have been popping up. I also like it as an extra source of advantage against control decks but I understand where you are coming from with the control decks.

Firstly WELL DONE PURP!!!!
I also strongly agree with cutting threaten for chandra, it seem more effective against more MUs.
I do dislike packing my 60 post board with stuff like 4x Chain, 1x BL and 2x W // T when you'll only have 8 targets (if they don't board it out) which can leave you in those uncomfortable positions where they're just one burn away while you have 3 removals in hand (I also count Searing blood a removal). Thus I usually play it safe G2 (cut phoenixes, only run 4 removals (2x Exile effects and 2x Searing blood) then change up on g3.

That's actually not saying a lot. I'd say States events are below SCG Open events in terms of skill level, and we know how bad those lists can be.

Except that SCG States were often held in places with lower seating capacity. I have heard a lot of people say that quite a few of them were <100 players. I do not know the exact size of the Mississippi event. It is still something to take note of but not as much as if it had won an Open or GP.

looks like we've got a pretty successful team out here - makes me proud if being part of this group

Here's a few thoughts on Chandra in the SB, which I agree with most people it's very well positioned at the moment
Chandra vs. the mirror is VERY good IMO if we run Eidolon, because killing her often taxes the opposing player more than it would anyway do. Double burn her? No problem take four. WLH? OK, fair enough but you still need one more burn spell...
Chandra vs. Control is strong because we have so many targets for their BL/DSpheres (if
gotten my Eidolon D-Sphered quite a bit), plus we run Wear/Tear and/or BL ourselves
Chandra vs. Black Devo is better than last season, simply because with BL and Reprisal, we have more removal post-board for their DD. They still often side out HDF for cheaper removal spells, so it's an excellent threat to bring in.

Like, take out that singleton Banishing Light from the main, jam a Chandra instead.
And for what it's worth, I think Blind Obedience can still have a home this type of build as a singleton (maybe replacing the 1-of Harness by Force?). The extort can still be pretty powerful when trying to recoup some lifeloss from your own Eidolon. Am I just crazy for suggesting this?

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

Simply because it doesn't allow for SFD in the SB.

IMHO if you run Eidolon MD then you need 4
SFD in the SB. If you run YP in the MD then MM is a better SB choice than SFD.

Thanks to NerdBoyWonder for the awesome sig

Purp, they're going to keep some of those in there anyway to deal with Phoenixes and other creatures.Chandra main is not very good, if Control or Black sees her in G1, they are more likely to keep DSpheres/HDF. G1 we want to be going for their face, not tapping out for a chandra. Post board it becomes much stronger when its a) unexpected b) they have sided out some number of answers

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.
