I think I'm going to give in and build a tier one modern deck. Have most of the cards for UWR control, so I think I'm going to build that.

Interesting I've always pegged you as an aggressive player (which is why you preferred Ash over YP$ back in the day) good luck with UWR control

Might be going that route myself if Kiki pod just doesn't pan out but will turn UWR into Kiki Control. Can't quit the goblin.

I apologize that I don't post much here. Playing exclusively Modern and a bit of EDH/Cube/Legacy on the side, so I don't have much to contribute in terms of standard which seems to be the popular format here.

In other news, my inactivity has gotten me removed as a mod on MTGS as well. Heh.

Well, my friend sort of fucked my by telling me that he decided he doesn't want to go to states, like, tonight at 12:30 so my plans for the weekend are shot. While it's a bitch move anyways, particularly pissed off because I changed my plans around going tomorrow. If he had told me just earlier in the day, I'd probably have just taken the train to visit family this weekend, but I can't even do that really. Kinda bullshit.

So it looks like tomorrow I'm either gonna play team sealed or legacy, but after 2 practice matches, it looks like my D&T skills are rusty as shit.

I should probably just do laundry and watch PT coverage or something :/
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I am, but my team has convinced me that if I'm going to travel for GPs, I need to play a real deck. I can assemble UWR control cheaper than
anything else that's tier one.

I used to play UWR control back in Ravnica standard (and even enjoyed it) and did well with UWR last summer when testing for GP:Kitakyushu (probably should have played that lol).

Mostly just need a tier one deck and it's the easiest one for me to build. Hopefully it will also help me grow as a player.

Just play U/R delver.

Anyway, there is an aggressive version of UWR which is the Geist/Brimaz version.

What criteria are you using to determine T1? UR delver is currently out performing UWr online and has taken GPs before (though its been awhile since UR last won an GP).

There is a warped perception of what is "tier one" in modern. Just because a deck has performed well in the past doesn't make it better than a new deck which is performing well.

I can safely say with confidence that UR delver and UWR midrange are strictly tier one and competitive. Even moreso than UWR control, which is losing because of the increasingly diverse metagame.

Anyway, congrats!

That's the one I'm looking into to if I can't get it together with kikipod. It is consider control more so than midrange from what I have been reading but it can/does curve In to the combo.

Not at all because of work and trying to just get a handle on kikipod. We only have 1
Modern FNM a month locally so not many chances to really test. Standard is the big thing locally so I play that unfortunately a lot more.

Ugh. I played that deck quite a bit and didn't like it. I'm still not sure how it is putting numbers on top.

Still, the numbers don't lie. All the best with that deck! It requires quite a bit of practice to play well, as the way you pilot the deck is quite different depending on the matchup. Probably one of the least linear modern decks ever.

So I watched the final match of state at my store. The top two decks were Mono Blue and Mono Green. Blue won. I'd never thought that would be the final two.

I heard it was very diverse too, so how they managed to get through was amazing. I knew one of the top 4 was Mono White but I wasn't sure what the 4th deck was since I was chatting with the store employees.

Tiers don't mean much in Modern ~ the difference between the top 5 decks is not substantial. UWR is at the bottom of that pile though.

If Pod gets banned i'll go back to BUG Gifts since it beats everything else in the format, but it just gets destroyed by Pod; so I think I will be on Twin for Nationals since I enjoy playing that deck.

Congrats, dude!

As for what's 'tier 1' in Modern, there's only a couple of questions you need to ask yourself. Are you playing Affinity, Pod, or Twin? If not, can your deck of choice beat Affinity, Pod, or Twin? That's about all you need to know as far as I'm concerned.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.

I don't play the format enough to discuss it without talking out my ass, the the results speak for themselves. 3 top 8s in the last GP, won the last pro tour.

That's better than burn, bw tokens or goblins, which are the only modern decks I have on hand. I'm not willing to buy bobs / goyfs / other fetches right now, so it makes sense for me.

Khans of Tarkir is the fall set with Sarkhan Vol as the main walker. Hopefully a playable red walker.
