I'm tier 2 and don't contribute jack shit

and i like it
I'm hoping I can parley wit and knowledge of limited into something. I'm getting back into serious constructed for the first time since futuresight, so honestly I understand theory, and my local meta, but aside from that I am not the best person to ask about what you should be doing with cards you owned before you walked into the store. Snap evaluations and 40 cards is where my skills are, and that shit is real hard to teach (and people never believe you when you tell them that hillgiants and 5cc removal spells are things they need to be playing, so i've mostly stopped trying to teach it). If nothing else I can coast to glory on the back of my mighty parentheses (like these).

You do need to try to gay it up a little more.

You're like the least gay member of this clan.

And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.

Boros Reckoner is the best Divination ever printed.
I really want to run him with pitfight, I know it's not good, but it's so fucking cute, and it won me two games in a draft once.

Took me a long while to catch up on the thread. Thank you for the promotion. I look forward to working with you guys in the future and brewing some red decks that will crush non-redbros. Really thankful to be a member of this community.

True neutral; though it's hard to say.

I have a pretty strong preference for the lawful good/lawful neutral/neutral good quadrant; even if I'm personally more ambiguous.

FWIW Pip's chaotic good, so I must like you at least a little Yarpus.

I don't know that I quite get Paladin status, though...ws and I did have some downright serious conversations about how exes could disappear without a trace if the need arose when one has access to large plots of private forest land...

This is very similar to what I'm building right now, minus the Mutavaults, which I don't have yet. Black devotion seems sooooooooooooooo strong.

There's a lot of room to be lawful good and still be fucking awesome. Captain Smoker from One Piece is lawful good and he's one of the biggest badasses in a series built on introducing new levels of badassness.

Thanks, zeman...I am pretty codebound.

As to the black deck, SM and I were discussing this the other day as I had doubts about running GM as a playset on 23 lands in an otherwise aggro deck. I do see him as a great solution to the issue that Nuwen brought up regarding her Br build--getting the other guy down to 3 only to have him stabilize and wreck you--but do you feel that this holds the board well enough to bring Merchant online? I love him as a better Corrupt, but my initial thought was that he was more suited for a mid/control build as a finisher. I'd much appreciate it if you could fill in where my theoretical logic is falling short as you know that this style appeals to me in a major way...

Actually the deck wants 24 land so -1 Hero's Demise.

Gray Merchant / Mogis's Marauder is a lot of reach.

Xathrid Necromancer / Mutavault is a lot of resiliency.

RE: Gray Merchant; you're going to naturally end up in stalls where 1 card is blanking a few of yours. In that scenario, merchant draining for 4-5 is probably going to end it. You can recover well if the initial rush doesn't work with Connections (more of a 4 drop), which also powers up Merchant.

You've not got quite as much devotion as the Red Devotion lists, but youre pretty resilient and you get Mutavault, so that's sweet.

@SM - I humbly grovel ans scrape for not giving more
consideration to GM in this archetype...I saw the land count and ran screaming. If you were to bump up to 24, it would be running along the lines of how we ran RakHammer last season.

Lemme know how it goes, I really like the look of it.

I really like the feel of 24 land decks. Gray Merchant isn't as powerful as Thundermaw of course, but I don't think he needs to be. He's more of a Zealous Conscripts.

@zeman - I edited your list because I don't think you would play [card]Hero's Demise[/card] mainboard even if it were legal. ;-) I keep trying to call it that, too...names for MtG cards are getting as inbred as prescription drug names.

I've updated my list since we last spoke. It now has 24 land, and Lifebane in the SB. ;-) I was talking to one of the few non-douchy people at my LGS about GM. We both couldn't believe they printed this at common.

You got it exactly right! I have been called laweful evil so many times in my life. Maybe I'm actually just the emperor? I hope nobody's dad throws me into a pit.

Also 4-0 tonight with pyro red, 8-0 in games. Played maybe three close games, including one against UB master of Babes where Chandra killed all of his elemental tokens and recurred my 2 phoenix's that I was sacking to DDemons every turn
until she went ultimate.

I think you pegged us all except red leader...for all the ribaldry and dick jokes that we bat about, that man is lawful neutral if ever I've seen it. He strongly believes in our unalienable rights, and while I call him a friend, I have not one whit of doubt in my mind that he would end any of us without hesitation if we offered harm to him or his. There are rules and boundaries, and he's not the type to play favorites.

Yes, I just finished the War. Shit was dope. And despite my dedication to logic, I'm actually quite chaotic in my thinking. The easiest comparison I could make is in Chapin calling kibler a secret timmy. I'm secretly crazy underneath my pretense of level-headedness.

Unrelated, I may right something on building devotion decks. The most important thing to note is that you NEED a way to see extra cards either by scrying or actual card draw to make your deck consistent.

I think it's just a "by comparison" thing. Red mages are more likely to be chaotic, white is order and white is our enemy.

So some random guy in essentialmagic took my version of devo red to an fnm, apparently won big with it, and messaged me about it. I was starting to thing I was still the only person still using EM. But hey I can mark a
tournament win down for my deck even though my local shop has only been running drafts lately (which is confusing considering the up coming PTQ is sealed).

Agreed, all the mana in the world is pointless if you don't have something to spend it on. CFB went with Domri and I am not sold that is correct. I do like how their PW and Hammer suite gives you devotion that is hard to remove, and heaps of wrath resistence; but I don't
think Domri is the best CA engine. I do love Hammer in the deck, it does so much.

I've done a fairly decent chunk of playtesting with there list and while domri was mediocre to say the least as a CA engine, he was GREAT as a form of reach with being able to fight your reckoner with whatever monstrous guy you had. I'm going to tweak some decklists, but I know for sure I want to being playing at least 2 mainboard ember swallowers and I want to play at least 1 mainboard Chandra. The hard part is really not playing to many 4 drops.

BTE is also very important in the deck as a part of the nykthos engine and to make sure you have early plays that do things(beating for 2 is fine). I could see either splashing for walkers or mono-red being places I want to be.

3 worst cards are Weird, multiple purphoros's drawn, and xenagos on losing boards. Havind said that, I don't think there's much useful info there as weird is specifically MY worst card as I've never been a big fan of it(card is obviously good).
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

So, today I'm home from work (don't ask) so I tried to open MODO.
I still don't understand a single thing of it, the only thing I seem to have understood is that James is online :v

Some interesting trending in cards just FYI; below are current MtGO prices and change in those prices over the past week. Note that of all things Hero's Downfall has spiked like crazy. The fact that it is within a few cents of playable planeswalkers is pretty nuts. Note also that Stormbreath has been creeping down though he's now rising again ever so slightly as the weekend approaches. Paper is a different story as he continues to demand over $30.

Another note to those who care...Thoughtseize in paper is down to $17 on ebay. Not cheap by any means, but my guess is that it will eventually head back up and stabilize around $20. I'm to the point of wanting to have a full set for decks, so I'm jumping in here...they may go as low as $15, but being a Modern staple, they will creep back up after Theros is behind us on the Limited front.

I've found mtggoldfish.com to be really useful in watching price trends; check it out if you haven't already.
