went 2:2:drop tonight. made some last minute changes: since I was at $17.50 for singles and if you buy $20 they waive the $5 entry, I figured I'd grab a Swan Song and another Jet ($2/$1) and try it like that. dropped the Rapid Hybridization for a Swan Song, boarded the RH over the Ratchet Bomb, and switched out a L-Strike for a Jet.
match 1 was against some UR Izzet Blitz-esque deck. I won; the guy was newish still and mulled to five in the last game (with no lands).
match 2 was against Esper... with so many showings at SCG last weekend, I saw this coming (saw 3-4 people playing it tonight). he had a resolved Ashiok, Jace, and sphinx'd for 4-5 when I scooped game 1. boarded in more countermagic but stupidly boarded out turn/burn. fought over a burning earth, but resolved it, and I lacked a counterspell for the Obzedat. or a way to kill it. I blame Fate.
match 3 was against RW Boros Minotaurs. yeah. game 1 I had the
option of trading with a 5/3 Fanatic or taking 5 (at 10) and Angering next turn. I forgot Boros Charm exists. Game 2 I get stuck on two land and lose to purph+fanatic pings. he gave me the win since he was dropping to draft.
match 4 was GR Midrange, copy-pasted straight from SCG. Fuuuuck this deck, I knew I'd have trouble with this one too. Game 1 he resolves a Domri I can't deal with because I need to take out his creatures. Game 2 he boards in Mistcutter Hydra and plays it for 5. Yeah.
I think I want an extra Syncopate. It may be terrible lategame, but it helps with t1/2 Domri and whatnot. Swan Song performed well enough. I like the deck, it's fun, I just don't actually have a ton of ways to deal with stuff once it hits the board. I may have to end up running Grixis for access to Far/Away, Hero's Downfall, Dreadbore, etc..

If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know if you're being lied to?
The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work... use more gun.

magma jet sucks balls late, and I like the access to some number of LStrike despite running Anger. like I said, I ended up running 3 Jet/2 Strike.I think quicken is better than steam augury here. Besides the utility of quicken anger of the gods, its an early cantrip to start hitting your land draws in a way that steam augury doesnt. I dont think you ever want to cast steam augury over Jace, AoT, for example.
also -3 lightning strike +2 magma jet, +1 anger of the gods?
I also don't like running 4x Anger main. I can deal with aggro usually with only one (and even without it), and it's a terribly dead card against Esper and the like (only creatures are Aetherling and Obz/BBoV).
I usually don't want to cast Augury over Jace. But Quicken doesn'
t do too much... if I was running it, I'd run another Mortars mainboard. I'd rather have that at instant-speed than Anger a lot of the time honestly.
I might drop an Augury though, dunno what for. maybe that syncopate.

What was your plan against Reck? Swing in the barrage to prevent 2-1? Falter effects?Yes, please stop.
I took Z's PyroRed list to a first place finish at FNM tonight. So much win in that deck. Got stomped by a Devotion Red deck. It's no fair using Reckoners against us. Ouch.
The deck was a blast to play.

Glad you had success with Pyrored windstrider! I went 3-2, would've been 4-1 if not for my idiot self keeping a no-lander (5 cards, 3 one drops, Ash Zealot, Magma Jet) in game 3. We had 26 folks, and a bunch of people colluded to fuck up the tie breaks so I ended up in 9th. Still had excellent games.
I'll have the full write-up tomorrow, but just got back from FNM and it is now 2 am so I am out. Grats to everyone! Glad you got that Rampager Fate
Main observation: the most effective way to win right now is double one-drop -> hasty two drop. I expect Pyrored to get better as the meta settles.

He was playing Boros, something like:
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Firefist Striker
4 Firemane Angel
4 Rakdos Cackler
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
22 land inc. at least 2 plains and 1 Mutavault.
He had more chained in his board, with Chandra, flames and mortars.
Match 1~
G1: he has double satyr into phoenix. I have a leashed cackler into flames for his board. He proceeds to play a Cackler and Firefist; I have a YP$ with Strike into Chandra. Game.
G2: board out my 1 drops, board in control package. He has no plays for the first two turns; I elect not to play a YP$ into open mana. While he is stalled on two mana I play two phoenix, he Jets one, finds his third land and plays a Reckoner. YP comes down, Phoenix is chipping away, then he jets it. I Jet him to get them back, play some more land, play some more Phoenix; he has a zealot and
FFS but YP locks down the ground. He finds a Firemane but I have enough burn to get there.
Match 2~
G1: my draw is Cackler into Zealot into Zealot plus Satyr with Jet and Strike in hand. He has Cackler, FFS and Chained (had to shock himself) but quickly succumbs.
G2: we both board into control; I keep a sketchy hand with Jet, two Phoenix and all mountain. He has a zealot and two Reckoner and a chained. I draw some more land and stumble around and die without really offering any resistance.
G3: I have zealot and Phoenix, he burns both away and I resolve a Chandra who's +1 apparently reads 'draw a card'. He has a zealot and a strike for chandra, but a shock and a second Chandra, then some more removal overwhelm his little guys. He had a few cards in hand at the end, so I guess Chandra meant he couldn't play some x/1s he had in.
Match 3~
G1: he goes first, I keep trying to play guys and block, he burns them away until I get his board with a flames. He has burn and Firemane in hand but no 4th mana;
I jet him EOT to find my 4th and resolve a Chandra. He can't burn her out and I'm able to draw a card (Mutavault) before he resolves Firemane. Chandra plus shock gets rid of that then Chabdra takes over.
G2: he has no plays for two turns, then has a reckoner, pass, Chandra. I have double Phoenix and a fistful of burn. Chandra finds another Reckoner, but he's too far behind to play it (phoenix x 2 and 'vault), opting to play Firemane. That gets killed, he overloads mortars for my board, I have burn to get back my Phoenix which finish him off.

Sounds like reckoner isn't really giving you too much trouble. I see everyone trying firefist striker/seismic stomp to get past them, but if you're boarding into control against the reckoner decks anyway, firefist striker and seismic stomp doesn't seem to fit in with that plan. Do you just let it 2-for-1 you and assume you can get the cards back with chandra/hammer?

Yeah pretty much. To be fair, he never drew two against me and I regularly had double Phoenix. It's a small sample size; I think that the results of the rest of the clan are more indicative of Reckoners usual power. _megaphone_'s deck was low on haste and didn't have Mogis, so my life wasnt very pressured; so I mostly just needed to worry about the board.
I think mono R devotion would be tougher for sure.

Tested the Rakdos deck a bit tonight, then decided to draft. Forced heroic ending up with a sweet deck and pulled an elspeth which I later traded for foil nykthos and thoughtseize.
3-0'd the draft and opened stormbreath dragon, ashiok, tymaret, sylvan caryatid, and foil agent of fates.
Maximum value draft. Reading up for states tomorrow. Mono-red it is. Looks like I'm gonna be scrounging for mutavaults though...

You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.
