I think Caleb Durwald has been reading here:
http://www.channelfireball.com/articles ... cry-games/

His RW midrange deck is interesting
Ahaha, he used that deck. He was testing it against me on Cockatrice the other night.

Which I find funny since I was playing James' mono red list and smashing him pretty handily.
I noticed the list is 10 cards short. I can figure out Lightning Strike + [card]Magma Jet[/
card]. What were the last two? Shock?

Drafting from Theros impressions:

This set is pretty interesting to draft. Rares are very bomby, but drafting a synergistic deck is very important. A few of the archetypes that did well were G/U goodness (feat. unblockable aura, flying bestow guy, flash +2/+2, and dat Asp), W/R Heroic (with the cards you'd expect), and green stompy (seriously. Mono green. It happened to be open). I didn't drop a game except by mulling to oblivion with W/R heroic for 2 drafts in a row. Don't expect that archetype to be open often, but folks at the table were trying to be cute so I just went with consistency.

Testing of Kuroda Boros a la SCG list:

Too much Elspeth. I don't know that I'd play her main deck in this list. Wanted more mortars, because I like drawing Plague Wind. Other than that, it felt pretty much the same.

Re: Assemble the Legion vs Mono Red - seems like a good opportunity to bring in my Ratchet Bombs. Of course, they'll probably be bringing in artifact hate for my Pyromancer's Gauntlet, so that could reduce its effectiveness.

Didn't mean to make light of your situation Suga, that certainly does suck. I imagine workers in your field are in fairly high demand though, right?

On another note, I think we can safely say that civilwargoat has usurped someone's "fucking wad" title:
The argument for why Wear // Tear should be dropped from a 3-color deck's SB:

Theros cannot get here fast enough so I can replace Path to Exile with Chained to the Rocks. No more non-bo with my Blood Moons would make me happy.

I have a couple of concerns about Chained to the Rocks. Abrupt Decay, Tectonic Edge, and Ghost Quarter are all cards. I'd be willing to give up a basic if it meant I never had to see that Wurmcoil Engine again.

The only thing worse than losing your first round at FNM to double mulligan to 4 from horrendous mana screw is dropped your six pack of Heineken on the sidewalk.

On the plus, I now own a beautiful foiled Hammer.

I've only seen Ghost Quarter from Death and Taxes, which is rare. Paths and Chained are dead in that matchup anyway.

The Wurmcoil deck (Tron) runs Oblivion Stone to remove my Chained or Blood Moon, but it's ridiculously slow (and Stony Silence is a thing). If they're on RG, I don't want to Path him into the forest so he can Krosan Grip or Naturalize my Blood Moon.

I'd never cast Chained to a shockland, especially when I run so many basic Mountains. Tec Edge is also a slow answer against a red deck that operates fine on 3 mana. Peak Eruption might become the hot new tech in Boros mirrors, but I doubt it. I want them trying to destroy my enchantments and ignoring my creatures.

I'm down on PtE because I rarely need the instant speed and there are so many decks that would love the 1 mana ramp. There are very few decks with no basics, so PtE is never a strip mine + terminate.

On the sidelines tonight as we have to get up at 5 in the morning to drive 150 miles for another band competition. Dammit...I love my boy and I love those band kids to death, but I want my Friday nights back!

Oh Khaos...I have a surprise for you...

I was out looking for an evidently now nonexistent bottle of Southern Tier Pumpking when I ran across something that simply must go to you...
Khaos, you're not gonna believe this one...

This is now in my fridge, good sir; as soon as I get time to package it up properly, it will be coming your way!

Thanks Jerry :) I was brewing on STD Boros and noticed how much the perspective was tilted to fit the card frame. Since 600x150 is the max sig art size, I was on the hunt for red cards that would look great when sliced up narrowly.

From a thread on Sally:
"I'm currently running WBr in Standard with this [infinite life combo with Charm, Reckoner, Whip] combo in the deck with 4 Reckoners, 3 Whip of Erebos, 4 Boros Charm, and various burn spells and have never had mana issues. Sure, most of the lands come into play tapped, but as a midrange/control deck I don't mind, and the scry lands are a lot better than I initially thought they were. We have WR and WB scry lands already and will eventually have BR as well. My current manabase is: 12 shocks, 8 scrylands, 4 guildgates, but I'll probably cut the guildgates for basics or something because they are really bad."

Me
"I hear Burning Earth is a good card."

Him
"I doubt it's maindeck material and I hear there is instant-speed enchantment removal in my colors. Also why do you care about burning earth when you have a trillion life?"
