Sure just let me know ahead of time. I can even record, since your computer makes your audio sound like you live in a wind tunnel.

Living in a wind tunnel is perfectly fine when done safely.

Guys, I have something to admit.

I think I hate Burning-Tree Emissary.

There, I said it.
Be a man and play a man's deck:

[deck]Creatures: 23
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4 Firefist Striker
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Stormbreath Dragon

Spells: 13
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
2 Hammer of Purphoros
3 Chandra, Pyromaster

Lands: 24
4 Mutavault
20 Mountain

Sideboard: 15
4 Mizzium Mortars
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Act of Treason
3 Burning Earth
[/deck]

Possible MD subs: Firefist -> Chainwalker (or some other 2-drop) and 1 Muta ->
Mountain. Or you could get Yarpus crazy and go -3 Dargon, -1 Land; +2 Loyalist, +2 Pyrewild Shaman.

You're welcome.
I actually really like this. A lot.

However, I'm concerned that my LGS owner may be so inundated with pre-orders that my shit may not be ready in time for FNM.

Which means I'll have to play my Block Constructed list. Which would please a ton of people, actually. It plays Emma AND Ashley, as well as a miser's Pyrewild Shaman.

Choose wisely Khaos.
Dude, there is no right decision. :gonk:

Actually, the only right decision is getting drunk and engaging in sinful debauchery (oxymoron???). As for which hole you get to defile, I'll just flip a coin. It's only proper from a Red Mage's perspective. :hifive:

DAMNIT. Long time no see y'all, but DAMNIT.

I did some pretty smooth criminal tradings coming into rotation. I loaded up on 5 Jace architect of thought when it was 12, now it's sitting at 21. I have my 3 sphinx's. See my problem? I didn't pick up chandra when it was at $10 and now I'd feel like a chump blocker if I pick her up at $20...

As for the god news, I smashed fools heads in at a 120+ person midnight prerelease. Went 6-1, put my winnings into store credit and still walked away with Badbreath Dragon, Pimphoros, Thassa hot mermaid god and some assorted scryland and rares.

I've been jamming lots of UW control on cockatrice. The deck is certainly powerful but there are so many different threats in this format. OBZ, stormbreath and rakdos return are especially hard to beat. Supreme Verdict tho is sick. I'm caught in this position where I have all the pieces for UW control except some Elspeth whereas i have
the sneaking feeling that I'd rather be the one casting Rakdos Return.

I know, I know, I never should've bet against red. It's just... When yall left salvation i just felt so lonely... I didn't know where to turn... SPhinx's revelation kept giving me gifts and new furcoats and then next thing I know it's pimping me out as a Blue Control buttslut...

On a serious note, I'm interested in seeing how the new meta turns out. I hate when I don't see value in a card (especially a planeswalker) and then it skyrockets on me, but hey, that's life. Guess I'll just have to suck it up and see if Chandra will take me back.

Jace is shooting back up? Sweet! I bought a playset when I saw them at 12 earlier in the year. I expected them to be much better after the hasty beaters rotated out and made it safer for the tap out control decks to come to FNM.

HEY. I said I was sorry. For some reason I couldn't access Diestoremoval at work whereas mtgsalvation worked fine so I fell out of tough. Mono-red is a p good deck post rotation, but other than chandra's phoenix and young pyromancer none of the cards excite me. BRW and BR midrange however are fucking ridiculous. Catch yall on the soon side.

I'm no mead expert, but I've certainly drank enough in the last few weeks.

For those that want to experience bliss, Chaucer's Mead is where it's at. Followed closely by Empire Royal Mead, brewed in New Port Richey, which is about 45 minutes from my domain.

I understand that the deck is not curve-driven, but I'm way too conservative a deck builder to be running a deck like that. I can imagine being in some sticky situations with two Swamps and a dual with no way to cast Anger when I need it, or two Mountains and a dual and no way to cast Hero's Downfall when I need it. Just not my cup of tea.
I'm not questioning your acumen, Val...your skills far exceed mine. But "
conservative", "consistent" and "control" are not going to be shared descriptors for many (if any) decks for now as the card pool just ain't there.
But that's the problem for me. I think the card pool IS there! Why Hero's Downfall over the two extra Dreadbore? I get the instant speed, but he already has a 3cmc answer in Anger that has strong mana requirements. Honestly with the deck built the way it is I see no need for Anger in the mainboard at all. With Read the Bones and Chandra in the deck he can easily 1-for-1 until he eventually overwhelms his opponent in card advantage. Throw in a couple of Doom Blades for easy removal and the deck is easily improved.

[deck]
Creatures (8)
3 Desecration Demon
2 Lifebane Zombie
3 Stormbreath Dragon

Spells (27)
3 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Rakdos Keyrune
2 Devour Flesh
2 Shock
2 Doom Blade
3 Magma Jet
4 Dreadbore
2 Rakdos's Return
4 Read the Bones
2 Thoughtseize

Lands (25)
6 Mountain
8 Swamp
4 Blood
Crypt
3 Mutavault
4 Rakdos Guildgate
[/deck]

Get on my level, Gerry Thomspon.
Val, I get what you're saying, but I really don't see the point of playing the sweeper in the side of this particular deck archetype when odds are that aggro decks will far outnumber other archetypes week 1. I know the mana has some potential hangs, but what you're saying is roughly equivalent to playing Charlie Murphy with Mutilate in the side only. Even in the diverse meta we're leaving, that wasn't the right answer for the deck; in a post-rotation meta, this deck without a sweeper main might as well just ask to start on game 2.

Again, I'm not calling the deck great; but it's a good start for seeing if BR can play the mid game for now.

BTW, do you have access to the article? If not LMK and I'll send it your way; the SB and his commentary on testing are worth consideration regardless of your overall take on the deck.

I agree with Photo.

Not the most in depth answer, but it is wat it is. And hero's downfall being instant speed is a key, not to mention it being mono-colored means it deals with soldier of the pantheon.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Another good point...Having 4 Dreadbore main in the deck with no instant-speed removal that can kill Obzedat simply won't fly.

Here's the complete list, by the by:

[deck=Gerry T B/R Midrange]
Creatures (9)
3 Desecration Demon
3 Lifebane Zombie
3 Stormbreath Dragon

Planeswalkers (3)
3 Chandra, Pyromaster

Lands (26)
6 Mountain
8 Swamp
4 Blood Crypt
4 Mutavault
4 Rakdos Guildgate

Spells (22)
3 Rakdos Keyrune
2 Devour Flesh
2 Hero's Downfall
2 Shock
3 Anger of the Gods

2 Dreadbore
2 Rakdos's Return
4 Read the Bones
2 Thoughtseize

Sideboard
2 Trading Post
1 Lifebane Zombie
1 Stormbreath Dragon
3 Underworld Connections
1 Devour Flesh
2 Shock
1 Anger of the Gods
1 Duress
1 Rakdos's Return
2 Thoughtseize[/deck]
