Sacrifice Burn

Postby Ascension » Wed Sep 18, 2013 7:35 pm

[Deck]
2 Purphoros, God of the Forge
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Tymaret, the Murder King
4 Gnawing Zombie

4 Chandra Pyromaster

4 Molten Birth
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Shock

4 Blood Crypt
4 Rakdos Guildgate
4 Swamp
10 Mountain[/deck]

Trying to break Tymaret and looking for someone to help me get this thing right. When it works it's amazing but then sometimes you get the really ugly draws that you can't really mulligan because you have 3 lands and 4 spells. I guess that just comes with the territory of combo(ish) synergy type decks.

Read the bones would help a lot with card filtering for the right draws , I'd probably cut molten birth in favour of it.

Molten Birth is what he's relying on to be a repeatable creature source.

Well I thought that , but I guess I hoped young pyro would provide enough tokens with the burn to fuel the sac mechanics. The deck looks good , but you do want read the bones - Maybe cut 1 shock , 1 lightning strike and 1 molten birth and stick 3 read the bones in then. or maybe a Magma jet and keep a full playset of molten birth , but then you'd lose out on some of your scry. Either way, I shouldn't think you'd need 4 of everything and read the bones would help a ton.

I think I can cut 2 Gnawing Zombies, and go with 2 Read the Bones. 4 Gnawing Zombie makes the draws pretty clunky sometimes

Gnawing zombie has the benefit of walling up on the ground and is your only turn 2 defense so I'm not sure that's the right move. You need to make it to turn 4 before you go online.

What about a couple shocks? It looks like it's the weakest spell in your deck by far. You'd still have 14 cards to recur the phoenixs.

2-3 read the bones should be plenty when you already have 4 Chandra. Not having the scry lands is working against you at the moment.

Gnawing Zombie is pretty good but the bad hands I'm talking about are the ones where I draw far too many sac outlets with nothing to feed them.

In that case, slip a couple hammer of purphoros in. I assure you that they'll get used. That might solve your problem better than read the bones since it turns on all the inevitable land drops Chandra brings in.
