We haven't always seen eye to eye and at times I have been very hard on him, but I have noticed a substantial improvement in the quality of his posts, both from trying harder to provide content but also on account if his substantially improved playing skills, theoretical knowledge and application.

I feel that not only is he becoming a bastion of knowledge, but also a very valuable resource within the clan.

Wow...Ordeal cards aren't UNBALANCED or anything...

Black - Spend turn casting enchantment, keep creature attacking and alive for 3 turns = opponent discards 2 cards of their choice
Green - Spend turn casting echantment, keep creature attacking and alive for 3 turns = pull 2 extra lands and put them on the battlefield.

And since they are just generic +1/+1 counters for the Ordeals, one could conceivably play enchantment, play a card to give counters and cash in (or play it on a creature that already has counters). The enchanted creature only actually needs to attack once.

The green Ordeal is the only one I can see anyone even really trying in Constructed; Lotleth Troll, Varolz and Ooze can all accelerate it.

I'm sure there's a broken combo somewhere in green...

Black pretty much sucks as well; even in Limited, Mind Rot is not exactly an all-star. The white enchantment could be very irritating in Limited...or amusing, depending on which side of the table you're on. Blue certainly isn't horrible if you can speed it out; the question is what opportunities there are to do this in Limited once the whole set is known.

Good thing we have instants to shoot these things. Though with the Heroic trigger, it can still get the +1/+1 counter before a burn spell resolves. This thing will be a nightmare after someone puts an Unflinching Courage on it.

Ordeal of Purphoros does what we need it to do: pressure the opponent. Put it on a Cackler, and it's attacking for 3. Attack the next turn to get a 4/4 Cackler and deal 3 damage to a creature or player. That's 10 damage out of two cards by turn 3, and you're left with a 4/4 Cackler.

Put it on a Hellhole Flailer. Attack for 5. Then attack for 6. Sac the Ordeal for 3 and then sac the
Flailer for 6 more. It's magical xmasland, but that's 20 damage.

I'm thinking that's gotta be worth something.

Same to you on Gyre Sage; for that matter, the caters to Evolve rather well in general. It would not be urealistic to pull the green ordeal off with Experiment One, though the fact that loltroll can protect himself makes him a relatively safer target.

There are a number of things in GB that I want to play around with, but the lack of Golgari Scry lands may mean putting stuff on the backburner.

It will only get a counter if they respond to the burn spell with another spell that targets it. You can still respond to the heroic trigger, same as always.

EDIT: I wonder if this indicates a cycle of similar rare heroes; if so, I'm a bit apprehensive as I have no interest in seeing another Hexproof creature with an upside. Pure speculation on my part, but the hairs on the back of my neck are doing a samba...

Blue could be functional as well...Flying as a keyword with Unblockable when targeted would be very appropriate blue attributes.

Yeah, that Chimera totally changes things. Steam Augury got a lot more interesting. And Thoughtflare. And Izzet Charm...maybe there's a deck there.

I was thinking of the tried and true tactic of shooting the creature out from under the enchantment before it resolves. For example, you couldn't kill the Hero with a Shock if they target it with an enchantment. It
would get the counter before the Shock would resolve.

And if youre a ramp deck, youre probably not attacking in the early turns... aka 0/3 plants are the way to go

Someone over on Sally made an interesting observation in the thread discussing Heroic enablers...

Orzhov Charm's first ability dovetails into into this mechanic--a planned interaction, I would think. Assuming that there will be enchantments worth playing, the spell makes it possible to pick up a hero and his pants and then start triggering him again. In some cases--the black assassin that was just spoiled, for example--this may create some measure of CA if the hero can be used to blow up creatures of greater overall value than his recycling cost.

Given that the charm has other modes (the removal at least may be relevant), it may represent a means of smoothing out consistency of playing heroes and enchantments in less "all-in" builds as well. Granted, this has no meaningful impact from a red perspective, but is worth noting in consideration of the fact that BW/WB aggro will almost
certainly be a thing (whether a successful thing still remains to be seen).
