Meh, liking 'aggro' or 'control' seems weird to me. I have to admit what I like in my decks. Consistency and inevitability. Being immune to disruption. That's why I've had shitload of fun playing both UW Venser during Zendikar-SoM and Sledgehammer during INN-RtR.

Footnote: Randomly played merfolk in modern today at the LGS. Wed is Modern and Sealed at the store and I usually just help people build sealed deck and watch limited games(cause dragon maze sealed is awesome) but modern only had 7 people and our store owner told me I should play. Friend gives me his extra merfolk deck with a sideboard of 2 kira, 2 dismember, 1 snapcaster, and 2 surgical extraction(+8 mountains...for value) and I proceed to finish second and double my store credit.

LP, I've been trying to make Modern Merfolk work in my play group for months now, but to no avail. I really think it's Meta dependent, much like Legacy Burn. One thing I found interesting was using Cosi's Trickster as a replacement for Cursecatcher since he's a bit more aggressive.

What list were you using?

Another thing I learned was that Tidefucker Mage is the business against certain decks, like Jund. He even keeps Lavamancer tapped.

I run modern affinity t-steel, and there's nothing quite like the look on your opponents face when you drop steel t1.
