Yeah, that was actually something I was thinking about yesterday...

Khaos, in Atlanta if you get drunk and piss on somebody's car, they will probably shoot you. Not threaten to shoot you, but just shoot you. So I highly recommend that you don't e.e

It's not the friendliest of towns e.e

Welcome to Atlanta where the playas play and we piss on some cars like every day.

I've got a buddy who before he got married and had a kid would party like Khaos describes. But only after getting superbly shit-faced. Once that side of him came out he ceased being "Ethan" and became "Agent Zero." You never know when Agent Zero will make an appearance, but God help us all when he does.

re: Doctor Who--I was beginning to wonder if anyone here watched it as somehow it's never really come into focus here compared to Firefly and AGoT.
Ever noticed that fez there in the avy? :sherlock:
I'm still only partway through S4 so I'm pretty biased towards Tennant at this point...Eccleston was great from the perspective that he personified well the sardonic, heavy end of seeing so much of history (bagging on our stupidity ans shortsightedness), but he lacked the
range of Tennant. I've only seen Smith in one Christmas special, but he seemed somewhat a shadow of Tennant. Still, I admit that I need to see Smith's seasons before dropping real opinion. But regardless, we love the show here...my son got all 7 seasons of the reboot on DVD from his mom for his birthday and he dressed as Smith-version for Halloween (as he lacked the suit and coat for Tennant) and I am now tasked with acquiring Converse Chucks in various colors for Christmas.
For us (wife and me) Tennant is our Doctor, no doubt about it. Eccleston was great, and I like the more whimsical Smith as well. Captain Jack...Oh myyy...that's all I'm going to say.

Anyway...companions!

Rose - Ok.
Martha - Very flat, too in love with the Doctor.
Donna - Oh yes!
The Ponds - Amy is, again, too in love with the Doctor (ok, maybe not in love, but she looks up to him way too much). And Rory is too much of a bumbling fool at times. First episodes/season with the Ponds: , by the end of the first half of season 7: :gonk: Oh god, will you get rid of the Ponds already!, then their final episode:
Clara - :jam: :unibrow: :grovel:
The latter is a hoot as I explained the history of Chucks to the kid...he still has trouble believing that people actually chose to play sports in a flat-bottomed shoe with no support, much less
accept that I wore the same shoes as a teen in the 70's.
People actually still chose to do sports in flat-bottomed, no support shoes. Merrell Barefoot range, Vibram Five Fingers, shoes like that. I ran a half-marathon this September in my Merrell Trail Gloves (zero drop, no support, about 4-5 mm sole) without any problems (not recommended without proper longterm training/experience with "barefoot" running", though). Support in shoes is really overrated. The book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, and my own experience have really convinced me of that.
I saw that you abandoned the barefoot discussion earlier, but I weight train and sprint exclusively in Vibram Five Fingers (KSO). I don't care for distance running, since I was a sprinter when I was young. I have terribly flat feet as a result of running in super supportive shoes, so adjusting to even slow walking barefoot was a big challenge. Now I have super strong feet with sloth-like
grip.

@Khaos, Don't ever try that shit in Texas. Folks here are protective of their rides to the extreme. Also you could piss on a Cartel officer's ride and not ever be heard from again. Just FYI.

For the Discussion on combat boots and running shoes- Try 5.11 boots. I wear the Side zip ATACS and they are real comfortable and not over the top Military. Side zip boots are also big win in airport screening! Running Shoes, I run 1.5 - 2 miles three times a week. I use asics Gel-Kayano 17's (the most comfortable/supporting shoes from Good Sports. I have seen guys trying to get fit use minimalists shoes and go to the hospitial the next hour. If you have an arch or wear cowboy boots regulary; it's commiting suicide. Ease into the shoes with just walking around the house, store, or daily shopping before excercise. Remember, most exercise clothes and shoes are fad systems. What is reccomended by doctars and health professionals today
is taboo and under class action law suits next year. Se health diets for that statement as well.

For the voting on (X) best member, who gives a shit? Many moons ago, I was a Boy Scout. Notice that did not say "in Boy Scouts" as the new gay rules are known. Puts a new meaning to "2 deep leadership". I swear that was the real term/rule in any events. Back to the point, we used to have these votes at council. NO ONE CARED except for the few that got awards. After a while, it became a fight for the award and the nicest guys became mad with envy for similar awards. Will that happen here? No, but I absolutly find voting on that to be "telling the left hand what the right hand did" (religious phrase from telling of good deeds).

1. Noise Cancelling headphones.
2. An industrial HOBART baby cleaning station retrofitted in the car
3. Baby seats upgraded to self contained biohazard systems. (tarped up bottom to catch puke, shit, pee, food, drink, and other car hating molecules)
4. Anti depressants (emergency only)
5. Motion sickness pills- in great amounts can cause memory loss and compliance.

We salute you and say god speed soldier!

You already have the distinction and credibility. It's just a Dilbert's "I award you this award".

Also, where are the votes taking place? Here? MTGS?
EDIT: I found it on MTGS. I supsect the mods will claim many awards as they will rig the vote. If they realy wanted to have fun with it:they should try the opposite of said awards. Now that would be funny.
I voted redthirst for nicest member.

Godspeed to you sir. At least babies tend to sleep a lot on car trips.

I know your pain, though. I'm headed to the Chicago area this afternoon with my teenager and toddler (the wife has to work this weekend, so she's staying home). Straight through, that would be a 10+ hours trip. We're stopping halfway to give everyone a chance to unwind and a chance to sleep. I'm not looking forward to the drive around St. Louis.

What does everyone else have planned for the holiday?

Most of my girl's family has moved from Indiana to SC over the last year so no more 9-12 hour car trips to the Godless north for me.

I'll be laying around, eating too much, drinking too much, and enjoying the company of my family all weekend.

Redthirst, it would not be you without a little beratement and that's why I love your charactor traits.

My family is just staying home at eating oven baked turkey, Pumpkin bread, German Chocolate cake, squished potatos (sister called them that when she was a baby and it stuck), brown sugar yams, some unknown veggie, and morning dutch oven cinniman roles to start the day off.
We usually watch copious amounts of football, but the teams we root for always loose (not a cowboys fan till Romo is removed from the team). Instead we have 5 episodes of Castle to binge on that we have not seen. NCIS, Sleepy Hallow, Marvel Agenst of Shield, Elementry, Supernatural, Arrow, Mentalist, and now Almost Human (Robot future version, not gay tweeny version) eat our dinner time. We have DirectTV DVR to record and skip commercials.

Part
of my brilliant plan was to leave right around 7 PM which is their bedtime. Hopefully they will sleep well most of the way down, but I anticipate some fussiness every now and then so Mother may have to get in the back and soothe them.

We are going to Disney for a day or two. My sister has worked there for awhile now, previously as a character performer and now as a photographer, so we can get some discounts for the trip. The wife is now 23 weeks pregnant and she's not looking forward to walking around a whole lot so hopefully we can have a "good" time while taking it easy. I say "good" because with two 21 month-olds we characterize "good" a little differently. A day with only a few mild tantrums would be classified as "good".

Before the babies I always thought the leash things some parents put on their children were rather inhumane. I swore I would never do that to my child. Yet we broke down this week and got a couple of them for the trip. Carrying them around
everywhere would have just been too much and my children will run anywhere and everywhere if you even leave an opening of one second. I think if they weren't twins it'd be a little different since we'd have two parents and the kids would be sufficiently apart in age that one could walk and behave while one of us carries the other, but having twins just creates its own logistical nightmare that few parents understand or appreciate.

They didn't used to. It wasn't so bad with dad's car magazine, but mom's cosmo was way worse (it may as well have been a baseball bat).

I too feel your pain, Val. Luckily, mine were a few years apart and thus relatively easy to manage. My son LOVED his backpack carrier, so that's where he lived as a toddler...he wanted to be up where he could see, though he'd dump into the stroller for a nap. Once his sis came along, he was happy to stand on the back of a sit & stand stroller and keep his sister company, so again we got lucky.

We tried the leash thing once with the boy before we got the stroller...ugh. He intuitively knew when to zip and cut into oncoming foot traffic in order to cause maximum chaos. Did not last long...

We never minded car trips with the kids (any more than we would have otherwise, anyway) because they both loved a huge variety of decent kid's music. Disney tunes, Dragon Tales, Trout Fishing in America, The Wiggles...I know it sounds way too Donny Osmond, but it kept us sane.

Holiday: My middle nephew and his honey are
taking on Thanksgiving for the first time as my sis relinquished the reins last year. So my three nephews on her side and their respective squeezes, 6 great nephews, my sis, the kids and me. I'm smoking a turkey and doing the beer & wine selections, everything else is on them. I'm looking forward to some serious fun behind the camera...I found shirts at WM for all the boys that have big arrows pointing to the side and say "Whatever it is, HE did it!"...I'm gonna take the boys in another room and suit them up and send them out...hilarity will no doubt ensue.

Which character?
She was Snow White for a day (I think it was more of a tryout than anything), then she was Mike from Monsters, Inc. for awhile, and a couple more I don't remember. She's short so Mike was a natural fit I guess.

I remember that show, it was on Cartoon Network when I was like... 12 or something. I remember that was the show with the ten billion Starcraft use map setting maps based on it and how it had a coup d'etat every 4 episodes.
Yeah, the show had numerous factions, and the kept changing name and leadership

Earthsphere Alliance overtaken by OZ, then the Treize Faction splits off of them as the Romerfeller Foundation flexes more of it's power, then Relena unites the World Nation out from under Duke Dermaile, then Treize is installed as the leader to deal with White Fang, and the remnants of the Treize Faction reunite with OZ.

and that's just one faction.

I despise Converse Chucks, btw. I have owned exactly one pair. Feels like I might as well be walking barefoot after walking in them for any extended period of time.
Exactly why I wear them. I fucking hate shoes.

If I wanted to feel barefooted, though, I'd go out without shoes.

I made the mistake of working a 10 hour shift wearing those once and promptly died from the shins down later that evening.

I've heard Converse Chucks are good for lifting for that exact reason.

I need to get me a pair and go back to lifting 3 times a week. Fuckin' school man

Kaze:

That's not a problem with the shoes, it's your weak feet telling you to stop babying them. They want to be stronk like bull, not weak like blue mage.

That was years ago. Since then I've started running in shoes with zero lift.

No one cares if you put your kid on a leash.

They do tend to look at you funny when you hit them with a rolled up magazine, though.
Rolled up magazine! I grew up in a saddle shop. There was an infinate supply butt spankers.
My dad just made this custom gaunlet/cuff for a welder. The first one not in a cowboy style. All it needs are some spikes on the forarm edge and black dye.

Ya know that's a great plan, except when you need to go to work / shopping / outside.
