It depends a lot on what you're seeing. I like the Boros version more than Mono Red, but MODO dictates I play mono red.
Right, I see it as Mono Red is better for the black midrange/control like you were saying, the Boros gives you a better aggro/midrange matchup and the Rakdos is best for control.

Yeah I'd be slamming PyRos in that meta for sure.

I agree. Mono Red is VERY good against control for what it's worth.

It has been treating me right. I suspect my main issue is a lack of aggressive mulligans, and overvaluing Magma Jet in openers.

Absolutely,
excited to switch among the 3 in both paper and MODO as the meta changes =)

MTGS Logic: only control players can adapt to the meta changes because only control players are smart!

Me: nothing is smarter than going down with a sinking ship.

(thought I posted this earlier, but guess it didn't go)

i just finished game day 2. I got second. again.

So double second places. You know what? I'm kinda okay with it. It sucks to not aget a mat, but I've already got the chandra m14 gameday one, so...

still makes me feel good

Does anyone have experience against the RG devotion deck with Arbor Colossus, Polukranos, voyaging satyr, nykthos, Garruk, BTE, etc?

Lost against it in the finals for Gameday and I just played it again on MODO. Feels really bad to me, they go way over the top so fast, maybe I've only seen their nut

Wow, shit, that is some pretty fucked up reasoning. Here's the only thing remotely close to logic behind that: aggro decks dictate the pace of the format by setting the number of turns control and combo are allowed to durdle. Aggro and midrange also determine what sort of threats contrrol needs to be able to answer. The poster obviously forgot that after control gets the gist of it, aggro and midrange adjust to control, just as control adjusted to them, but I can see how an idiot would boil down the complex interplay to that insultingly simplistic bullshit. They see that after
a rotation aggro decks are really good, and how it takes a while for control to crystallize and, by the mighty effort of all 5 of the neurons that survived the years of paint and glue huffing, they peice that moronic crap together. I am tempted to ask for a link to the thread, I am debating on whether or not I want to get banned from sally tonight.

@Z: You don't like Hammer anywhere in the 75 anymore? I figure its decent against the Black.midrange decks. they have no way to kill it outside thoughtseize, and if they are thoughtseizing us still I'd imagine that's fine <_<

I feel the need to pyrored some people.

Especially after I got done getting 2nd place at game day cheesing with Ghor-Clan+Flesh//Blood

Gets em everytime ;D

Don't know if I'm going to gameday tomorrow but if I do I'll be bringing Dos Rakis, referred to coloquially as "haste.dec," "that no skill deck," "that Jew deck," or "the cheesy deck" depending on who you ask.

Good job Nuwen, Fate, Raida! Excellent work.

RE: Devo gruul- It depends on the deck you're playing. PyRos doesn't have any trouble with it, because you have 12 terminates for their mana dorks.

Yeah I can see that, miserable for PyroRakdos as well.

Lost in top 4 of gameday today with Pyro red after 3-1 in swiss(double desecration demon/whip/ooze shenanigans). In top 4, I get paired against the guy who's playing mono-white devotion built to beat red agro. Maindeck pacifism, last breath, fiendslayer paladin, blind obedience. G2 was close at least till I flooded and he played thune and swung with fiendslayer and fencing ace with a path to bravery on field. #reallife.

Winner was a friend playing a different Junk mid deck. Afterwords, we played for a couple hours and talked about decks for SCGLA. Turns out Junk midrange(his version) gets stomped by devotion green. I had a 10/10 flying blood baron at one point(30 to 5 or something) and he plus's garruk, plays and monstrous's arbor colussos in the same turn along with playing ruric thar.

Depending on the results of SCG seattle today, I'm thinking I'm either gonna play Junk, BW, or Devotion Red midrange at the open. I
really like hero's downfall in this format.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I like Junk a lot if you're expecting aggro and control but it seems like the worst midrange deck if everyone else is on midrange. I'd play 4 colour to splash Sphinx's rev.

@ Helios. Which hydra? Polukranos (great card)? Or Kaldonian (unplayable crap)?

I like Junk cause Reaper of the Wilds. I think that's a very underrated card and is like Olivia in the fact that I expect it's price to go up drastically in a year.

Creatures:
- voice of resurgence;
- Polukranos, World Eater;
- sylvan caryatid;
- scavenging ooze; and
- Obzedat, Ghost Council.

Spells:
- abrupt decay;
- hero's downfall;
- putrefy; and
- thoughtseize.

LOVE IT.

I really would splash Sphinx's rev though. With caryatid and whatever the 3-mana fixer is (or proph. prism is probably fine).

I keep playing midrange decks, getting them to 5-6 and thinking "I hope they can't stabilize". Then I remember that Thragtusk isn't in the format and that they've being dead for a while.

So me and Rcwaspy went to the TCG Diamond 5k event today in Providence, RI with 170 players....

and kicked some serious ass!!!!!!!

I was running Dragon Boros and started 1-1 but finished 7-2 for 12th place.

He went 6-3 for 24th I think. He ran a Fanatic/Burning Tree build, but I'm sure he will jump here and fill everyone in on his great success(especially starting 6-1).

Gonna post a report in Big Boros thread if anyone is interested.

The Game Day hydra deck.

I don't worry about the Hydras in Standard. My Chains are ample and my Rocks many.
I beat it with another red aggro deck as a partner and lost with dega mid and g/w aggro.

I'm kicking myself over this one loss at game day. I was 2-0 and got paired down against a guy named Steve, who mostly plays limited and modern and was using a modified version of a draft deck. Mono white enchantments and devotion. I got land screwed in multiple ways the second game, but still...

Didn't play the Hydra deck because I actually played against it a month ago.

In other news, one of my buddies is in 11th going into the final round of the seattle open with his esper deck. Rooting for the homies.

Congrats everyone else on the good gameday showings and the 5k!
