Long time lurker so bear with me guys. I've had the hardest time against jund/rock. Any tips/suggestions on how to approach the matchup? Are dismembers and relics the appropriate cards to bring in?
Jund is pretty hard, but not unwinnable. Blood Moon is also a nice option to have against them.

I've got the deck sleeved up, hopefully have some time to test between rounds at the prerelease. Hope to get a pool that's better than last night. I got stuck with a green box, and to quote Z, it was "hot garbage".

Bought a playset of Prophetic Flamespeaker last night to test out, was the most bonkers thing to happen since gluten-free pizza dough.

10/10 would turn sideways

I was able to jam a half dozen games vs the Rock and that match up seemed about 40/60. Mogg Fanatic seemed pretty underwhelming, but maybe it's just in that match up.

@ham- I used my winnings from last Monday's Modern tournament to buy a set of Flamespeakers. I can't wait to try them out in any format.

I brewed up a really interesting deck featuring Flamespeakers, Dark Confidant, Chandra and Lili plus some Swords. I was drowning in CA in testing, Flamespeakers are absurd in a deck that can easily remove blockers (a specialty of [mana]RB[/mana]).

The Jund/Rock/Junk matchup is definitely your worst out of everything tier 1 and you basically need to hit some combination of your nut opener to win. The fact that they can answer shrine is pretty backbreaking.

Twin, affinity, and various control decks are all favorable, and Pod is either slightly favorable or slightly unfavorable, depending on their list, but close to 50/50 either way. If you add pillar of flame to your deck, it's firmly positive.

I found holding up three mana with the shrine in play was often correct.

Against B/G/x you have either to screw their manabase hard (blood moon, molten rain) or to win fast. You can't win the long game due to their superior card advantage paired with big creatures that gain life (courser, ooze).

So what sideboard cards are we running for the jund/junk decks? I need to retool my sideboard but im down to like 9 tickets now so I dont have the option of switching. Mine right now is
4 pyrite spellbomb
3 molten rain
1 combust
2 relic
2 dragon's claw
2 smash to smithereens
1 shattering spree

I want to drop some of the spellbombs. I just dont really think that killing etched champion is relevant to justify 4 cards against it
so going forward i want to drop two bombs for another molten rain and two dismember.

i played against twin earlier today and I dont think that rift bolt is bad. I had an oppoenent t1 kill mogg fanatic with lightning bolt. we have plenty of disruption coupled with alot of incidental damage that just adds up as nicholas heal said. they can only land deceiver really with all of our searing effects and we still have dismember. Im not sure what you guys have in your mainboard but I take out skullcrack since it really doesnt do anything and one searing blaze since it does so little and im only running one to begin with. i think with just the dismember as backup for the deceiver we should have enough game to where we just burn them out. Also how many spellbombs are you guys running anyway?

4 Spellbombs.

Did you mean in the sideboard or brought in against Twin?

I don't bring in any against Twin, but some like it over Rift Bolt.

I'm not sure if any of you guys watched caleb durward's latest 'banned series' video. In one of the matches he was playing against RDW and he noted that it was Heal's list. Caleb was cool enough to hook it up

sorry for the size, but it also has two shrines in the board.

To call it "Heal's list" is somewhat stretching it, but you can tell that's where the deck started from. It appears to be taking on more of a burn approach, eschewing the Fanatics and Molten Rains for more Bolt action.

I played Heal's list again on Monday going 3-1. I had a BYE since there was 9 players. I beat Zoo and UWR, but punted a game to some stupid Ad Nauseam/Lightning Storm deck. All I had to do was sac a Mogg Fanatic in the dude's upkeep to win and I blew it. I'm surprised you guys didn't hear my punt heard 'round the world. Just call me Ray Finkle from now on....

Watch caleb's videos. He says the guy got the list from "his friend" Heal. I'm just sharing a potential updated list since it peaked my interest when I was watching it.

Looks like I will be taking RDW to the PTQ in San Diego next month with the way Kiki Control has been panning out. Could just rock affinity or Zoo also.

The decks are functionally different. When you're playing burn, you're not trying to disrupt your opponent. You're not even trying to interact, hence playing cards like Flames of the bloodhand and skullcrack. TO THE FACE I SAY!

That was my mistake, I didn't really know what to call it and I had to put something in the spoiler tag to get it to work. :iiam:

How does rift bolt interact with Eidolon? Does it trigger when you cast for free?

My experiences with kiki control have been mostly positive.

Ya'll nigga's suck.
My experience has been polarizing. Either extremely well or extremely poor. When I approach playing or picking a deck I want consistency if anything. I don't think the deck is the biggest 60 card steaming pile like Zem is suggesting but the deck is pulling in 2 directions that hurt its consistency but I see the power in its interactions.

The thing is I know my play style and kiki control was my attempt to try new territory and branch out but I am not a type of player that sits and reacts to eventually take control of the match. I like to apply pressure and force my opponent to fumble and capitalize on their screw ups. Hence UWR control in any form is
not a deck that suits me. Combo or aggro is where I tend to sit.

It still triggers even when it is suspended. It won't trigger when you suspend it but when it is casted from suspension the CMC is still 3 even if it was not paid since Eidolon of Great Revel's trigger does not care about mana spent on the spell but on what the cost of the card is.
