I don't think it would fail without him, but since the low curve goblin deck has such an all-in strategy, you need to be fast. So, the question is if the deck is fast enough to stand a chance. Maybe a higher curve goblin deck with Krenko, Mob Boss and Siege-Gang Commanders is better in that case?
Nah. I've won numerous games without ever seeing a Goblin Guide. Isn't there like another goblin that's a 2/2 for 1. Goblin Cohort or something?

No Goblins player has ever looked at an opening hand with 4 goblins, a bolt and 2 mountains and said "no guide? Ship it!"

Yes, and Bloodcrazed Goblin. And Tattermunge Maniac if you want a 2/1. Cohort isn't too shabby.

I keep wanting devils to be goblins. Mostly hellrider and rakdos cackler. They fill the same thematic role as goblins, but sadly they are not. Same way as it seems that satyrs are going in theros.

I hope the devils in question aren't of the vexing variety.

Not only is it such a bad card, but in a world filled with turn 1 Deathrite Shamans and turn 2 Tarmogoyfs, you're essentially wasting your turn 1 to (at best) shock your opponent.

The devils in question were listed; hellrider and cackler. Vexing devil, while not good, would not have been strange as a goblin. That being said I suppose you can't make all the good red weenies goblins or that tribe would be so far aout of hand as to be painful.

I can't be the only one who like punishers.

Breaking point is actually pretty decent and blazing salvo was GREAT in limited. Dash hopes was fun too, but it's harder to get excited about it. And I know that you always get the effect you don't want, but I just find them amusing. Anytime i'm building a red casual deck I at least consider one or two of them. Everyone has their pet cards/mechanics. I feel the same way about suspend (except suspend has pretty decent cards). I do have a friend looking at putting vexy in her legacy RDW for reasons I can't fathom, but she does pretty good with it.

Wardriver Goblin, fringe playable? I've been enjoying signal pest, which led me to look at him. He's fine in goldfish tests (a low bar indeed), but I have no one to actually test modern with. I did manage to pick up a set of goblin guides via trade over the weekend.

Current test version, no wardriver yet.
[deck]
creatures
4 goblin guide
4 figure of destiny
4 signal pest
4 keldon marauder
4 hellspark elemental
4 stormblood berserker

Spells
4 lightning bolt
4 rift bolt
4 lava spike
4 searing blaze

Lands
20 mountain
[/deck]

I've been playing around with this:
[Deck]
Creatures 20
4 Goblin Guide
4 Rakdos Cackler
2 Grim Lavamancer
2 Figure of Destiny
4 Ash Zealot
4 Ball Lightning

Koth 3
3 Koth of the Hammer

Burn 14
2 Pillar of Flame
2 Burst Lightning
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Searing Blaze
2 Flame Javelin

Land 23
3 Teetering Peaks
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn
12 Mountain
[/deck]

The Ball Lightning is in the experimental slot. I originally had Chandra's Phoenix there, but after playing against Junk numerous times I swapped it out. Other ideas for that slot are Stormblood Berserker, Boggart Ram Gang, and Ember Hauler.

I haven't even considered a sideboard, as I built the deck on a whim to play against my friends.

I'll see your list, Val, and raise you this masterpiece:

[deck]Goblin Burn[/deck]

Aside from the Goblin Guides, it has to be about the cheapest deck you can possibly make. XD

Don't forget the Blood Moons. Those are quite expensive now.

What I like about my deck is the Ash Zealots and Eidolon in the
maindeck. Resistance to Storm and Snapcaster.dec is really nice.

Yeah, I guess Blood Moon did go up a fair bit.

What I don't like about the Eidolon is that he can be brickwalled by a Spellskite or a Tarmogoyf and that you'll probably hurt yourself a good amount trying to either remove their threat or burn them out. He's probably better in the sideboard. Especially since Zealot can hinder Storm on her own a great deal.

That's fair, but it's important to note the synergy with Hellspark Elemental, Figure of Destiny, and Flame Javelin. If your own life total is a concern you can always level up Figure, unearth Hellspark, or throw Flame Javelins all over the place. In fact, Spellskite and Tarmogoyf are exactly why I put Flame Javelin in my list. It's really an underrated card. Immune to Inquisition of Kozilek, four damage for three mana, doesn't trigger Eidolon...what's not to love? :)

Maindeck Eidolon may be meta dependent. It beats the crap out of Affinity, Storm, other combo decks, and to a lesser extent Soul Sisters, but is a little underwhelming against Jund, Twin, and Bogles. I don't think this deck has a chance in hell against Bogles to begin with, but I'm happy to play it against Jund and Twin even if it being an enchantment pumps Goyf.

I'm a huge fan of Flame Javelin. In fact, it is the correct choice (over Flames of the Blood Hand) in an RDW shell since clearing blockers is pretty much your main concern. Later, it serves as reach to close out a game, but the important thing is that it hits that sweet spot you need in Modern: the 4 damage zone. Dealing 4 damage is huge when you have to fight things like Wall of Omens, Spellskite, Tarmogoyf, Exarch, Colonnade, and even Germ tokens stuck to a Batterskull.

However, in Burn, the correct choice is always Flames of the Bloodhand since it cannot be redirected to a Spellskite (and, um, negating the life gain is a thing I guess.).

But, not to nitpick, Flame Javelin does trigger the Eidolon's ability. It's CMC 3 or less.

From Gatherer,

"A card with monocolored hybrid mana symbols in its mana cost has a converted mana cost equal to the highest possible cost it could be cast for. Its converted mana cost never changes. Thus, Flame Javelin has a converted mana cost of 6, even if you spend {R}{R}{R} to cast it."

Absolutely in a format with Lightning Bolt. I guess we can't play creatures because Dismember and Path are in the format. :teach:

Grim Lavamancer? Garbage.
Goblin Guide? Unplayable trash.
Koth of the Hammer? Shit tier, dies to Hero's Downfall AND Oblivion Ring? Clearly unplayable.

Sure, you can get all snarky cuz I shot your card down, Alex, but it just doesn't quite get enough bang for the buck. You're welcome to prove me wrong, and I encourage you to do that, but Flamespeaker is a build around card. Not something that can just be thrown in a typical RDW list. Hell, Chandra's Phoenix, Hells Thunder, and Ball lightning are better options.

All those cards trade evenly on mana(except koth which sees next to zero play). Flamespeaker getting bolted fucks up your tempo.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.
