Path of Exile?

Postby Scott » Tue Apr 16, 2013 3:45 pm

I almost forgot about this little gem. I beta'd it forever ago, but now I believe they are in open beta, so anyone can join and play. I started up a new character the other day; not sure if I'll have time for it but wondering if anyone else has played? The game is a Diablo clone, but I actually kind of like it a little better. I haven't played Diablo III, so I can't make any personal direct comparisons, but I've heard they share a lot of commonalities.

The only thing that is a little intimidating is the skill tree; it is more like a skill megaplex, and there are hundreds of options. This leads to a pretty unique setup though, where no two characters of the same class would be identical in what they can do. That much I like, but sometimes I can be pretty fickle so it may lead to rerolling characters a few times.

i prefer huge skill trees, it leaves a lot of area open for customization. d3 felt way too watered down.

Yeah. About the big skill trees, I mean. I like it too, it was just a little daunting the first time I opened it up and I realized they had a zoom out feature just so you could see it all. A skill tree with a zoom out feature.

Played some of the beta a few months back. The design and skills looked quite nice and it certainly had a good diablo2 feel to it. Somehow I just lost interest after playing my templar to 30ish.

I keep hearing Ups and downs with it.
Most I here start saying this is how diablo 3 should of been... But a lot of those people have also stopped playing it quickly too.
I haven't tried it as I already have Diablo 3, Diablo 2, and torchlight 2.
I just shit post and get blocked on the twatters

My thoughts on why people stop playing it are that it doesn't bring enough new stuff to the genre of hack and slash. It is a really well balanced and well made game that should have been made about seven years ago?

If this game had come out in the hayday of Diablo II, it would have been a much bigger success. In this day and age, we expect more from games in the hack and slash genre. We at least want to see them grow SOMEHOW.

I agree with this sentiment; I think the game was specifically designed to be somewhat nostalgiac, but for a lot of veteran Diablo players it probably just feels like more of the same. I still haven't really spent any real time since it went open beta playing it. Every time I think to, I just end up doing something else.

Passive abilities were always my favorite. Huge skill tree too.
It's too bad we don't have a secret subforum where we can coordinate troll attempts where only we can see so that we don't have to catch on because only one of us is an actual rocket scientist.

The Skill Tree of this game reminds me of the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X. Played some good half hour of it, it's fun but I'll stay in Phantasy Star Online 2. And yeah, I'm a Diablo 2 lover.
