[Fedoras of Salvation] - White Knights ITT

Postby zemanjaski » Thu Mar 28, 2013 4:37 am

[*]Welcome to our new home gentlemen.

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone for their care and support during the transition, and the fervour with which everyone has stood up for our brothers. Please do express gratitude to the stuff and members here who have not only taken us in, but given us a nice new place to hang out and be ourselves.

Those of you with access to MTGS, please notify the rest of the clan of the new home, either in the clan thread or through PMing those on your friend list.

Finally, I don't have posting or editing rights at the moment, so if anyone wants to start migrating my articles across for use on this fine site (post them in the Standard forum), please by all means do so. I will be removing all over my user content from MTGS ASAP (might be a few weeks though I guess).

Thank you again to the MTGC Staff and Community.

In the spirit of the
normal clan thread ~ I was pretty pissed off this morning, with all of this chaos going on. What do I find when I open my messages this morning? Sent to me at 4am, all the way from China, some pictures of Wolf-Girls business trip. Got to see some different sites, the hotel, some food etc. Also got a series of pictures of the shower, including demonstrations of how it works. So there, now I know.

Sometimes things are alright ;)

Edit. Would you believe I meant to write "dick" instead of "deck" in the thread title, but I was thinking of UB Tempo brews

I don't believe your "typo" was a typo. Just felt that had to be said. And mine is already here.

Had a look Jerry, it looks like Aristocrats with U instead of R? I would cut an Evil Twin for the extra Diregraf Ghoul, both to give you a more aggressive average draw, and to lower your curve slightly. Broadly the deck looks fine otherwise ~ I am not sure if the mana base will really hold up though ~ you have a lot more creature types than the Aristocrats deck, which already has issues. Only other thoughts without seeing it in action: Blind Obedience and Contaminated Ground are both unplayable.

Only if you like the same colors of turtles as everyone else, ham. And as long as you don't call anyone else's turtles insulting names.

So it looks like I have the opportunity to play in a PTQ on Saturday; haven't played standard in ages though. If I decide to go, I'll definitely be looking for some deck advice in the next few days. I went to inventory my red stuff, and my Zealots and Nobles are currently missing. Shits are being flipped.

The actual intent of this post is that due to an extra bottle of sake on the house (I'd already had one, but the manager is a super nice guy so he brought me another) I'm fuckin tired. About to kick back and watch some Dr. Who. I'll prolly check in before I turn in, but elsewise, g'night you sexy beasts.

Watch "Blink" and just nod approvingly at the directorial decision to focus on nothing but Carey Mulligan for 40 minutes.

This was more an FNM-level deck than what we were talking in terms of tempo...just wanted to clarify that I wasn't proposing this in the same vein as the discussion you opened but rather just an opportunity to throw this deck out. In that vein,
CG is land hate for some of the overly ambitious mana bases as well as utility lands at my LGS. I will reconsider BlOb depending on meta composition. I may tweak to get the 4th ghoul. Thanks for commenting!

On a more competitive track, where are your thoughts with tempo at this point?

The core seems very powerful in the UB version. Adding a third colour is possible; if anything I would consider going BUG for Abrupt Decay and Quirion Dryad (with everything else in the deck able to trigger it, it will get big very quickly). Deathrite Shaman would be an option then as well, if you were happy to abandon the pike plan.

That said, straight UB has all the tools I want; I just need a few more solid creatures to round out the deck ~ Delver of Secrets *could* do it; 22 hits seems like enough? Open to suggestions. The core of the deck would look like this:

[deck]UB Tempo Draft[/deck]

You get the idea ~ its
actually VERY grindy and plays very well against everything I have tested against so far. There just aren't a lot of answers to Stalker + Pike at the moment. You still have the Delver into multiple counter-spell lines that everyone loves; but against control you have a huge supply of 2-for-1s; and you're going to draw a lot of action. The deck defends well against aggro (Snappy + removal and/or Augur and/or Stalker w/ Pike etc).

You don't care about Thragtusk at all. You can maindeck GY hate etc. The deck has a lot of little angles that no other deck has, which gives you a big edge at the moment. Tuning the deck will take time, but it seems really strong.

I already killed someone with EOT flash in snapcaster, equip two idle pikes on my turn, swing for 30+. You just eke out heaps of little advantages, then all of a sudden they're just dead.

That was relatively painless.

Do we need to host our own sigpics?

Is there a way to favourite threads?

Will take some time to get used to this new site.

Z, I'm liking it...with snaps priced so reasonably on MtGO right now I will try to give it a go. Significant learning curve, but I'm seeing the possibilities you're alluding to.

Gonna have to sleep on it, though...been a long day!

A pleasant and quiet night to you all...

I've been thinking of adding Cremate to the sideboard of my experimental Grixis build to fight against the Junk Rites that's sure to be in abundance. The card draw looks to be really useful.

Yeah it can be a huge blowout ~ they tap out for Rites, you remove the target and draw a card..."B: counter target spell, draw a card" seems realistic :P

Awww, shit. The boys are all back.

I'm glad we made the move, like I said on our boards, I apologize for the precipitous action on my part without publicly distancing myself a bit prior. It was selfish of me.

You know what else is selfish of me? Failing the Ham Challenge. Which I'm totally about to start working on doing.

So, as some of you may have noticed, I like my fun. I like my stupid word games (probably doesn't come across over forums like it does in real life) and I vacillate back and forth between dry and cynical on like, British levels, and goofy as hell. Well, in a goofy moment last night during playtest group, I came up with my new favorite nickname for a card, and really, only you guys would get it.

"I cast Sphincter's Revelation for 6"

I know, it's assuredly been done before, but just the very idea of a revelation for your sphincter tickles me. In my good place.

Fuck, I need to
sleep.

What kind of half-ass non-functional deck tags is this?!
Yeah I'm sorry, we are fiddling with the deck tags so that they can support multicolumns and have a nice box, I made a mistake and deactivated them, they are back up now.

A quick and dirty tutorial (remove the * to parse the instructions)

deck tags work like this:

[*deck=this deck name]
// some name
1 mountain
1 swamp

//some other name
1 blood crypt

//yet another name
1 grizzly bears

sideboard
1 mox jet
[/deck]

which parses to:
[deck]this deck name[/deck]

and that's it. It will look better in the future (hopefully).

nAnother thing, the mana smileys are the same than on mtgs but you can't use them back to back (like :symr*::symb*:), you have to use an extra space :symr*: :symb*: which gives :symr: :symb: in any case all the smileys are there, even the guild ones. We will have to post a list one of these days...

mana tags [MANA][/MANA] don't exist yet. we want to get ahold of the code for them and implement them at a latter juncture.

Site is still in its adolescence, so there are still some things here and there to fix, but it should be good enough for most purposes as of now.

Sorry for the intrusion, if you want I can move this to the FAQ thread, but I wanted to let you guys get familiar with the slightly different deck system.

Also, I threw the announcement up in the old Clan thread.

Here's the entirety of the old clan front page:

[center]++ANNOUNCEMENT++[/center]

As you're probably aware, there's been a lot of drama over the last few days regarding MTGS and our place in it. We've discussed what we want to do here and, using that information, the Council has decided to the following:
  • 1. The official Clan thread will be moved to MTG Community - our Clan area can be found here. We felt that, after talking to the staff of MTG Community, it would be a better enviroment for our clan to grow in.

    2. In a week's time, I will ask the MTGS Clan mod team to move the FoS thread to the archives and remove us from the Clan HQ - this should give us all the time we need to port all relevant content over to our new home.
Anyone who wants to join the
Exodus, please follow the link, create an account and feel free to start posting - if you don't - well, it was fun and best of luck.

Also, if you are going to join us, please refrain from creating as much drama as possible on your way out - we can't all be as badass as Dane.

We've got a new home brothers! So pack your **** and let's go!
Welcome all to the

Fires :symr:f Salvation
:D
Who are we? We're the Fires of Salvation, of course! We're members with one thing in common: we love all things [MANA]R[/MANA]. From the lowest Task Mage to the highest Fire Lord we're passionate about
playing with fire.

Why are we here? We're here to watch the world burn! Well... mostly we're already burning up the Standard Competitive forum, but like all fires, we need to spread...

Tier 2 membership comes with the benefits of Tier 1, plus you'll be invited to join our new Fires of Salvation forum - a place where you can be yourself/let off steam without the worry of being warned/infracted and take part in the Great FoS Pay-it-Forward Project!

Want to join? It's easy - just post in this thread that you want to join and what attracted you to our bunch in the first place – that’s it! There will be a probationary period where we'll make sure you're a good fit here (don't worry, we're not too picky) and then you're in.

:)

The board is just as relaxed. Want to talk about decks you're brewing? Cool. Tournament reports? Awesome. Your kids starting school? That's fine. Just saw the most
ballin' movie? No spoilers. Basically, talk about whatever.

Though, you should note that it is considered propper to follow the guidlines set forth by FoS member Dane when posting:
Originally posted by Dane on MTGS
Posts worthy of FoS shall contain no less than three of the following, preferably more:

- References to masturbation, and the cessation thereof. A count of the number of days since commencement of said cessation is worth bonus points.
- References to Firefly. Spoilers are frowned upon.
- Complaints about Vexing Devil, and the proponents of said card, who insist it is the greatest expenditure of red mana since Lightning Bolt.
- Off hand reference to male genitalia. ANY reference to male genitalia will suffice.
- Dick fencing, while a reference to male genitalia, is entirely in its own category, and may be used alongside general references to get your quota of three per post.
- Telling redthirst he's pretty. (He isn't, but he likes hearing that he is.)
- Any well
thought out, documented, and supported argument for a given card/neat trick in MtG. "Because it's working super well at my backwater LGS's FNM" is not appropriate support.

I miss anything? (red is totally pretty, btw.)

It's important in these uncertain times to keep our core values constant so our members may grow.

Hello everyone. Nice place we have here.

I see we're a bit more flexibile on the language here. I like it.

Z, I responded to your UB list in the old thread. I really like your list. Have you thought about Devour Flesh instead of or in compliment to Tribute to Hunger? It gains our opponent life but it seems like with the Pikes as our wincon we don't care about that very much. I can imagine the 2cmc cost would be less prohibitive with Snapcaster Mage shenanigans.

Also, hi.
Did no one tell you? It's pretty much accepted that the FoS were the most fabulous clan on Salvation. Like, way more fabulous than the Gaymers.

Like... "burning glitter" fabulous.

I mean, our members are growing just because of the constancy of dick jokes. If that isn't flaming, I don't know what is.

And now, I have to remember that I can't keep this tab in the foreground at work
