All the pros complaining about Modern deny that their argument boils down to "I can't play blue therefore modern is bad," but their complaints are generally "I have no consistent blanket defense against non-interactive decks common to the format that use different angles to attack with from each other." That blanket defense in most other formats are usually counters, particularly Force of Will in legacy, the cosmic equalizer against unfair decks.
While I don't mean to strawman what most of them are saying, does anyone else agree that having counters be good in modern would make it so that a limited sideboard space is not the only way to defend against the myriad goldfish decks?

Do we need Counterspell to be reprinted/made legal in Modern?
Do we need something new?
Do we need FOW?

It's clear Mana Leak isn't good enough. Spell Snare is good but too situational. Remand isn't a hard counter. Cryptic is too expensive to even be cast against some decks. Spell Pierce is a blank against certain decks (limited sideboard slots conundrum). Logic Knot is a mostly worse Mana Leak.

Counterspell is double blue. All current iterations of <=2cc counterspells are mostly ineffective, though Stubborn Denial in Caleb Durward's BUG control is the closest thing to a real boy I've seen. FOW is a completely insane card but would allow unfair decks to have a universal full-stop/might make Modern "Lil Legacy" (which is not what "they" want for the format).

we look at you as a bigger man when you don't talk about it because pretty much everyone gets sex and it's not this like sacred implausible thing that is hard to do unless you're just a gross troll. but honestly with low enough standards, i've seen some pretty horrifying things over the last 4 weeks going to two separate conventions so it just goes to show you that even socially paradoxical ogres can find love or whatever approximates for it when another swamp beast has mounted your sludge tube.

i talked to some girl who 8 words prior to me saying "hey let's go fuck in the bathroom" was complaining about how thirsty the entire populace of an event i was at, particularly after announcing she was single after she and her boyfriend split. she was all over my hairbrush starting from the sentence following those 8 words up until i told her i had a girlfriend and my flirtation was not meant in earnest.

it is not hard to get laid even when you say things like "hey let's go fuck in a bathroom" to a relative stranger who is literally complaining about guys acting exactly like that.

Stock up on Tasigur.
I don't know if $8 is good for him long term. But just make sure you have enough Tasigur for yourself and a few extra. I have no idea why this card is $8 when it's in top-tier decks in every format it's legal in. No one likes opening Fate Reforged for some reason.

Chord of Calling is <$3 right now. It might drop even more after it rotates. You should have extra copies of that.

Have Murderous Cuts. I don't know if it will spike huge amounts or approach Path to Exile levels, especially since it requires enabling before it's great, but it doesn't feel like an uncommon that should be this far under the radar for as long as it's been out (I guess after everyone collectively lost their shit and contents of their graveyards to a cross-format legal ancestral recall they forgot a black swords to plowshares was also legal in every format).

I have just finished selling the excess of my Zendikar fetchlands so I implore all of you to dump those as soon as you can because the big reveal can occur any day now and apparently many buyers are not aware.

Sarkhan is great and is probably the 2nd best planeswalker in Standard after Elspeth, unfortunately Temur is awkward as shit

it's time to erase the tyranny of rare birds of paradise and actually put good stuff in MM so you're not languishing with 800 copies of domain overrun

if you're paying $10 a pack, there damn well better be $10 worth of cards in the pack. the wealth of modern unplayable cards in MM1 was disgusting. and this is coming from a guy who's sitting on at least $1500 from what limited MM1 product he opened.

like wizards has to come to terms with downgrading the rarity of some cards in this reprint product if they're going to make modern an accessible format to new players who don't have collections spanning one or more decades.
especially if they're going to charge you $10 a pack for the privilege.

i don't need common planeswalkers or common tarmogoyf, let's just not upgrade the rarity of cards like clique or aether vial while downgrading stuff that literally every person should have a playset of like BOP.
bridge from below isn't a modern card.
i had completely forgotten grad arbiter steve azorius existed.
mythic slots taken up by legendary dragons that last saw play in Extended.
oona and any non-spellstutter, non-clique, non-pestermite faerie.
stonehewer giant, doubling season, and all of the other EDH pandering bullshit.

make a real set that is meant for modern players in tournaments so they can play modern without sawing off their arms and legs. make a set where every pack is fun to open because you know that at least some of the cards are guaranteed to go into your deck.

i'm going to drive a tanker into wizards HQ if flame slash isn't in this set and a common.

fuck, where's lightning bolt? where's terminate? where's spectral procession? cold eyed selkie was never and will never be a thing. why is it a potential card I can open in a booster pack of this set designed to make it so Joe New to Modern can play modern?

make the cards in MM so you can draft baby versions of modern decks.
not some domain monstrosity or a really shitty version of bomberman, the vintage deck that is completely invalid after KTK

I'm terrible at analyzing cards now.
You post on dtr? Cool? Honestly, I don't know who posts there and who doesn't.
I actually read that site quite a bit but its mostly because a lot of the people I used to interact with on MTGS are over there.

It's easy, just consider if the card's going to have an effect that plays with current mechanics - unless it's overpriced to the degree some of the new spells we've seen are. New DTK cards should be fairly good if they contain the most intrinsically powerful of the set's mechanics, and synergize better with the counterpart Khans mechanic.
