Reminds me of a certain 4-drop phoenix from born of the gods which saw exactly 0 competitive play...

Wizards demonstrates their commitment to making any Phoenix other than Chandra's Phoenix suck.

I'd want one for the art, but that's about it.

I believe this is fringe playable.

I do not imagine I'll be the one picking this up though. Probably slots into some grindy midrange/control strategy if you want to work hard enough for it.

I mean keep in mind Khans is looking to be 5drop centric so its not too weird to be playing this guy

Just noticed it said each player, not each opponent. WtF!

Waste of a mythic slot.

It might actually be good enough in the format. The format looks really slow and clunky.

I'd rather play Flame-wreathed Phoenix over this.

Yeah, that's probably true.

So I recently picked this card up and it's actually very good.

it's basically a red voice of resurgence at worst and the mana cost, power, and flying are all perfect for devotion red.

you're embarrassing yourself.

So far, the only red card I've been of in evaluating was Eidolon of the great revel(underrated) so I'll take my chances. I've done some light testing and the card singlehandly was shutting down agro strategies.

Related: Tom Ross agrees with.

I can understand what you mean by Voice type effect, but the mana investment to get that effect is through the roof and it's more fragile.

Are you morphing it consistently after it returns? Where are you getting the mana?

Interested in this too, but it is pretty cool that the mana investment to morph is a curve-topper. I suppose in the right shell by the time you want to do that you're out of cards to do much else with and you can go into grind mode. Interested in LP's feedback.

I'm playing it in devotion red in the fanatic slot. As a red midrange creature, It's simply an evasive 4 power beater when I'm ahead and a great blocker when behind. Remorphing it is not necessary and I consider it free value.

Also, in devotion red, with nykthos fueled draws, I often do have an excess of mana, but I've never needed it for phoenix purposes.

Ok, that makes sense. I was imagining nightmare scenarios where people are trying to wrongly claim 2 devotion off the morphed creature.
