Besides looking like a deep sea crustacean is attacking something, this card is pretty cool. Weaker than Syncopate early on but able to burn out an opponent or their planeswalkers in the late game, regardless of if they can pay the X cost or not. I like it.

I'm not a fan. It's overcosted for when you just need something countered, and really restrictive if you need to hurt them, since you have to hold up a lot of mana and they need to play something worth countering.

Card seems bad, but it's probably playable due to being able to nuke walkers.

Instant 2-of in my RUG Chord deck. Better than Izzet Charm by far, reasonable finisher. Sometimes can be played early for value. Something tells me I will like the feeling of "Counter your PW, kill your other one".

Wait, FoS'ers are shitting themselves over the bad X burn spell but calling this bad?

What the actual fuck?

The burn spell is fine. Fringe playable in a bunch of decks. Solid 1 of in big gruul style decks.

This shit is just bad. It's simply too expensive.

Because they have to run an Island in the deck for this?

Really, how can you NOT trust FoS's crackerjack card evaluation skills at this point?
I'm pretty sure you're the worst actual magic player here judging from the constant garbage you spew.

ITT: Nerds raging over a neat if somewhat mediocre counterspell

It's true!

You say dumb things all the time, but you actually play magic which makes it worse.

When Spam says shit, it's blatant trolling and usually funny because he's not really a magic player so it just seems silly, like if my sister was talking shit.

You're like the mediocre player at the LGS that thinks he's some sort of genius and talks trash and it's just stupid and sad.

Honestly, this is the kind of shit that made me leave mtgsalvation because I assumed people were going to be more mature on DTR.

I guess I was wrong.

Not letting others' immaturity get to you is a sign of maturity. :teach:

This spell is just as fringe, but at least it has a better niche. If Planeswalkers become a large part of the meta I'd love to have this spell available. Another random X burn spell won't see play. Devil's Play was the best one in recent memory, and mostly because ramp strategies were good in the format and Flashback was good. The ramp now is nowhere near as good as Primeval Titan was.

I played a single devils play in most of my grixis control builds and it was the nut for whatever that's worth.

The thing with the random burn spell is that it's playable at it's baseline. Imagine being in some gruul mirror. You and your opponent both have some generically fat creature like a polukranos. You play the x-spell for x=3, then with ferocity, it eats there hydra. If you untap with a stormbreath in play and draw it, you attack for five, then sink all your mana into it and point 6 at their face.

It's just REALLY efficient for a blaze.

My point is that it is absolutely no different than Mindswipe. They're both borderline fringe, neither is probably good enough to be constructed playable unless a LOT of things go a certain way. So why is one "OMG" and the other just "Oh meh?"

I'm off the opinion that one is much more likely to see play then the other.

It comes down to the fact that the floor of one is simply much higher then the other. IF blaze is bad, it still doesn't something relevant that can impact the game like killing a creature that you need to kill or killing the opponent. If mindswipe is bad, it's either a stone blank, or it's a situational lava spike(aka, the worst magic card ever).

At there best, both cards can do busted things, but at the worst, the burn spell always does SOMETHING which is the point.

Basically the vast majority of the time, people make mistakes while deckbuilding, and if you fuck up with blaze, you still have a playable card in your deck.
