What are everyone's reasons for playing EDH and not just standard like all those other peons who sleep in gutters.
My #1 reason would be that wide variety of the card pool due to the large deck sizes and singleton nature of the format.

I have a couple friends who play it and I had a special purpose in mind at the time with a commander I got as a gift.

I started playing EDH because Standard was getting boring. I've been in love ever since.

Singleton is my main draw as well. Even before I started playing EDH (way back in 2006) my casual group was already moving that route voluntarily, with most people playing full playsets of only one or two cards in a deck.
It's an interesting format that mixes consistency (access to one card 99% of the time) and randomness (100 card singleton) to make for really cohesive yet varied games. No other format offers this.

Edh is really hard to play optimally compared to other formats, so that draws my interest. There's so much happening all the time.

EDH rewards a person's individual deck building skills. There is no real "optimal" EDH deck and no uniform EDH meta so net decking is less effective than solid deck building.

I like the idea of a singleton format where you build around one creature (gives the format a really epic, war like feel), but I hate multiplayer (too much time spent doing nothing, and then the randoms that like to board wipe to make the game last forever)
..so I play french, and cast griselbrand

Asians. Asians are the master race.
This is on-topic, right?
