Postby Jack » Mon Apr 07, 2014 1:22 am

[deck]
4 Deathrite Shaman
4 Dark Confidant
4 Stoneforge Mystic
2 Tidehollow Sculler
2 Restoration Angel
4 Lingering Souls

1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Batterskull
1 Umezawa's Jitte

4 Thoughtseize
2 Hymn to Tourach
3 Liliana of the Veil

2 Abrupt Decay
4 Swords to Plowshares

4 Marsh Flats
4 Scrubland
1 Bayou
2 Swamp
1 Plains
3 Wasteland
2 Isolated Chapel
2 Windswept Heath
2 Verdant Catacombs
1 Forest
[/deck]

I've been messing around with this on Cockatrice a bit. It's fun and easy to play, but it isn't blue and it's bad against unfair decks.

Why isolated chapel and not more fetches/basics?

I picked it just because that's what others are playing, but it hasn't been bad. This deck isn't demanding of a single color, but it wants you to have black and white on turn 2, and sometimes double black, meaning that I don't want more basics (unless I start cutting wastelands). I already have 8 fetches, and that seems to be enough for fixing; any more would just cut down on my life total (their shuffle effect is useless to me). I think people used to run Urborg, but I feel that it helps my opponents too much

I'd go for a 3-3 split with StP and Hymn.

While I love Hymn, I think 2 is the right number. I might want to try out Vindicate in place of a StP and maybe 1-2 Abrupt Decay so that I can blow up lands and Batterskull (which I pretty much have no answer to game 1 aside from stripping it from their hand).

Hymns also become very dead quickly

Which, oddly, is why I like having 3. I want to see one early. Also, I've toyed with putting Top in this kind of list for that exact reason.

I've been testing - 1 Lili - 1 StP +2 Vindicate. Vindicate is a good card. This deck doesn't really enjoy +1ing Lili early on.

as long as you can reliably cast it and you're still at a relevant place in the game by the time you can hit the mana for it, Vindicate is always a good option.
