BRG Prerelease Stories?

Postby imopen2 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 5:58 pm

I didn't get a chance to go to any prerelease events this weekend but I will be doing extensive events on magic online.

I'm curious what worked well and what didn't work well.

Feel free to post any bad beats, good beats, or sweet brags.

I had a fairly ridiculous pool from the C/U side of things. 2 Nessian Asp, 2 Voyaging Satyr, 2 Griptide, Sea God's Revenge... Somehow I managed to go 0-3 anyway (ending up 2-3 since I continued playing (against kids and terrible players) for fun). I have never done so poorly at a prerelease.

Chose the red pre-release pack.

Pulled 1 Xenagod from a booster, and pulled another from the seeded pack. Definitely made the night worth it. Traded both off for around $50 worth of cards.

Round 3 of an online release.

my opponent is ay 18

my board:

a 14/14 green release promo
a 12/12 green release promo (I opened a regular one)
a 10/10 monsterous dude
and a bunch of middling dudes

his board:

a 15/15 hydra that he has been sacing things to all game
a 3/3
a 5/5

I play the card that gives +3+3 and trample to my 14/14 making him a 17/17 and I attack with the 3 big guys hoping for some bad blocks (if he blocks correctly I would lose), and he did not disappoint....he blocks the 17/17 TRAMPLE with the 3/3 and sacs it to the hydra, I have no idea why he didn't block it with the hydra...must have thought the trample wouldn't go through?

Either way I draw 17 cards and bolt him FTW :D

i chose green at my offline pre-release and went 5-1 with a GWu deck with boon satyr, polukranos and courser of kruphix all ready to party

online i chose green again in my first one trying to recreate the dream with a bad GW deck and went 0-2 drop

in my second one i went 3-1 with UW heroic (never cast my blue promo once in 4 rounds). my one loss was because i misplayed around a eidolon of countless battles. i thought it was more like nighthowler and was counting creatures in graveyards as i tried to kill it.
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.
