[SCD] phyrexian crusader

Postby Blackhound » Tue Nov 05, 2013 9:15 pm

I dont see any phyrexian crusader in tier 1 decks, not even tier 2 and I was wondering as to why ?

A 2/2 for 3 mana aint that good, but It does have first strike, infect and protection from red and white Lightning bolt Path To Exile

Stick an enchantment on it and it becomes house.

There is a fringe tier 2 mono black infect deck that plays the card, and yes, it's insane. I've never seen anyone really put work into that shell, so there's probably a lot of room for improvements.

Indeed, I've been hosed by this card many times on MTGO while playing my mono red deck.

I played MBI a lot when it was Standard, and I really loved the deck. I never considered playing it in Modern since I already had Affinity built when the format came to fruition, but I might put some work into it. I enjoyed it quite a bit and I think it's probably viable considering how abundant red removal is in the format.

A friend of mine took BUG Infect to GP Portland and ran them in the sideboard. He ended up drinking in between rounds, so he didn't place very well, but the deck seemed pretty solid. He went 4-0 a bunch of times at my LGS with it, though that's not really saying much. In playtesting Phyrexian Crusader was often a card I had no idea what to do against. I think it has a lot of potential.
