[SCD] Titan's Strength

I know that nobody was ever excited about playing Giant Growth since the UG Infect deck rotated from Standard, but this is no Giant Growth. It's RED Giant Growth that doesn't give you that much of toughness but grants you Scry 1.
It's still vulnerable for being 2-for-1'd by removal, but the actual upside of resolving it can be huge. Especially when doing it (safely) on Ash Zealot. Either 3 damage to the face or helping at killing off a huge creature in a way Lightning Bolt does that is just amazing. It needs a creature, but when you have one - you can use it to scry as well.
I think it could even get a chance at Mono Red Pyromancer. Casting that on Elemental tokens to ask your opponents to waste Doom Blade on token is a nice deal in my opinion.

This card might
actually be huge. I'd appreciate further analysis by the others.

It's a thing if Mono Red tokens can be a thing. Can they be? No idea. It's not ideal in a straight red aggro list though.

PyroRed?
- Ash Zealot: 5/3 First Strike is a huge deal.
- Chandra's Phoenix: 5/3 evasive beatings. Using removal on it is no clear 2-for-1.
- Young Pyromancer: you cast Titan's Strength on unblocked Elemental token. They either have to spend removal on it (no clear 2-for-1) or accept 4 damage.
That's probably another card I wouldn't use in Rx matchups but it has the potential against Midrange and Control decks.
It counters already hated by the humankind maindeck Pharika's Curse.

That's not enough IMO. If rather just use a removal spell to kill what's in my way and get damage through now. I don't feel there's quite enough there. Not yet anyway. Lemme think about it.

Yeah, especially considering you'd be getting a replacement token anyway if YP was still out. So basically it's "target opponent discards a removal spell" for R...

Problem is what are you going to take out? The burn spells allow you to go to an opponents head, which in turn brings back the lovely Phoenix. This although gives you 1 extra dmg and the ability scry one over a shock. Shock can bring back the bird which is a key thing imo.

I'd considered this as well but concluded that Shock is more versatile since it can kill things and go to the dome when needed.

If we didn't have this many instant removals, this might have seen more play. It just does not have the raw power of Reckless Charge, though.

I thought about this

[deck]Creatures:
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Ash Zealot
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Other Spells:
4 Titan's Strength
4 Shock
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet

Planeswalkers:
2 Chandra, Pyromaster

Lands:
20 Mountain
2 Mutavault

Sideboard:
4 Annihilating Fire
4 Skullcrack
4 Peak Eruption
2 Traitorous Instinct
1 Pithing Needle[/deck]

You become a bit more explosive. T1 Cackler, T2 Titan's Strength is 5 damage. You also make much better trades against midrange as it's not Swing & burn the creature out anymore - you are spending 1 mana and you get the Scry.
Legion Loyalist would help out this spell a lot providing both First Strike and Trample - but I don't think we really need him.

On the other hand I was thinking about replacing Satyrs with Loyalists.
T1 Loyalist 1 Satyr 0
T2 Loyalist 2 Satyr 2
T3 Loyalist 3 Satyr 4
T4 Loyalist 4 Satyr 6
nIn terms of damage dealt during 4 turns. Loyalist makes Master of Waves and Elspeth a bit less of a pain. Still, I don't think it has enough of support in terms of power of creatures we do play.

potential damage with Satyr is a little stronger:
T1 Loyalist 1 Satyr 0
T2 Loyalist 2 Satyr 3
T3 Loyalist 3 Satyr 6
T4 Loyalist 4 Satyr 10
Unplayables. Mountains don't cast 'em brah.

It works better in PyroBlack eschewing Satyr for T.Hero and adding Agent of the Fates. Hero + Strength T2 = 6 damage. Agent = removal on a stick.

There was a list I saw today that went 5-1 in the mocs event that ran titans strength. Dragons mantle. Burn. And a load of 1 drops including akroan crusader and arena athlete.
I fancy trying it :)

Isn't that the updated AIR version? I've also played against it.

The problem is that unless you are using heroics then you are better off with rubblebelt maaka. Maaka is a full +3/+3, it's uncounterable, and on an empty board it's still a dude. Sure it's only a hill giant, but when you need it, it's there.

thanks to nbw for the sig.
You do need to try to gay it up a little more.

You're like the least gay member of this clan.

And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.
