Initial reaction is

1) Moar Legacy = Good things

2) Although they didn't say if it was not a possibility (or at least I don't get the impression that they aren't willing to), the lack of modern opens was disappointing (despite personally thinking the format isn't that good yet)

Thoughts?

Not doing Modern Opens is pretty lame, especially since in 2013 they started their new schedule of not just Standard-Legacy.

Why the never tried Modern is beyond me, as pretty much everyone will tell you that double standard is god awful, and limited is boring to spectate.

Maybe they are waiting to see if Pauper opens are viable before modern.

Or they are just being stubborn.

Yeah double standard is the most boring shit ever. I'd honestly rather watch them play team sealed than watch a second day of standard.

Starcity is a large contributor to the lifespan of the format. Wizards doesn't give legacy that much support. It doesn't have a season, and very few GPs. That being said, SCG has the market basically cornered there, which is great business for them. It's in their best interest to keep it around.

As for not supporting modern, I can understand that for the same reasons. Modern has a PTQ season and all that, it doesn't need more support.

And legacy days tend to have players of a superior caliber and demeanor. Especially in side events.
