Random Access Memories

Postby Mcdonalds » Mon May 27, 2013 4:31 am

It's been close to a week since it came out (longer with it being available to stream on iTunes), figure everyone has had enough time to listen to and digest it.

I really like it, the disco/funk thing is a bit off putting at first, but there is quite a bit to like, with some genuinely inspired tracks (Giorgio and Contact) and Doin it right, which is almost brilliant in how annoying it is.

Not better than discovery, not even close.

It's not really fair comparing it to any of their other works considering RAM was to be a departure from their norm and as such is so much different from previously released albums.

That said, I love the album.

Liking it. There's always a track or two on every one of their albums I just can't grok, and I feel the same way here. Listening it top to bottom does do a couple of songs (Get Lucky in particular) a bit more justice.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's not Discovery, but nothing else will be.

Loved the album. Contact was probably my favorite of the more classic-sounding DP tracks. Really though, the funk guitar throughout the album is just dope.

I have some mixed feelings about it. For one, it just doesn't have the same Daft Punk feel I've come to expect (like being nothing like Discovery). The groove is there for sure, but the instrumentation puts me off. I like it, but it's not one of those albums I'll listen to constantly. I also really liked Daft Punk's original vocals so having guests wasn't really appealing to me.

It's a good but not great album. Having said that, Giorgio by Moroder is my favourite song of the year so far.
