GP Portlnd Coverage

To my knowledge the first gp after the sunrise bannings and the ptq, and the second after the bbe banning

Long story short, Melira Pod made a very strong showing, winning out today (I belive 4 in the top 16 of the tournament).

Disappointed there wasn't more tron, not sure if there was simply little tron or the meta wasn't friendly to it, fast aggro made it's appearance with multiple affinity decks and the tribal flames deck that is running around in the top 16, which would push out Mono-U and possibly UW, not familiar with the latter, although PyroclasmRG Tron would probably beat those decks

From what I read/heard somewhere, there were Tron showings in the top 32, they just didn't make the cuts down to 16/8.

I'm a newbie to the format trying to learn the scene, and it was fun watching the stream, especially the top 8.

I'm not sure if it was quarterfinals or one of the last rounds of swiss, but I saw a lavamancer out at one point. Does anybody know what that deck was and how it ended up placing?

One Jund deck and one UWR deck had them in their 75; both top 32'd I think.

Like you said, it would have been a REALLY good weekend for any guy who happened to be playing Pyroclasm in the building. I imagine that fact is going to catch on in a very big way soon.

The second place player was playing RUG scapeshift with maindeck pyroclasm. Zach Hill said he probably had the best deck in the room.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I didn't play, but I was there. I had a lot of fun, but basically ended up spending most of the event out in the hallway playing EDH with a few friends, including some new friends that I knew online but hadn't met in person yet. Was a lot of fun!
// EDH \\
Jenara, Asura of War
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Pauper Diregraf Captain

// Standard \\
Green/White Human Tribal

Why didn't you play?
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.

This was the closest GP to me this season, but I don't have the card pool for modern. I've recently realized that I should probably be investing in it though which puts me way behind at this point.
Eric, Ren and Jensen were activists
Heads loaded with theory, their hearts are filled with passion
Shared the same left wing politics
Liked the same music, they were part of the protest movement
Now, Anna presented herself as a feminist
Studied the way they talked and dressed
Fashioned herself an anarchist
Eric fell in love with Anna at the meeting of the crime think conference
He didn't know it but Anna was an FBI informant

Card pool as far as what? You can play stuff like UG infect with nothing but fetches.

There was also a guy playing a Naya list that was just 90% standard cards with only common/uncommon removal slots being upgraded for Modern.

A couple years back, my whole collection, minus a single deck, was stolen. Aren't ex's great? Since then I took a rage break thinking I would just quit,
but now I'm slowly re-building the awesomeness I once had. I've been slowly collecting Legacy staples, but realized recently I should try modern so I can actually find games. So that's why I have a dreadful lack of modern staples and why I'm behind in getting them.

I"ll have everything I need eventually, it's just shitty replacing years and years worth of cards
