During that picture I was able to clear my head a little and remember my wife had prepped me for just this opportunity. I had thought of a question with some meaning behind it earlier. If I was only able to ask Mark Rosewater one question, I wanted it to be a thought provoking one he could and would answer. So, when the picture was done, I turned to Mark and asked "Why do you think so few women play Magic?" It wasn't as good a question as I thought.
Mark first went into PR mode, explaining that the number of female Magic players were on the rise. He explained as more girls were playing games younger, more played games like Magic as they got older. He explained while very few competitive Magic players were female, but the number of causal players was getting much larger. I did press him a little about why he thought that was. I cited reasons like how being the "only girl" was intimidating and could
prevent there being ANY girls. Mark said that was a problem in some gaming stores.
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.
