Who wants to be civilized when you can have football instead. And I don't mean soccer.

Canadian Football is also not soccer. It's basically American football with a few minor differences. Rejects from the NFL play here.

Australian football us interesting.

I might take you up on that assuming we get an Open near us again. I just got worse news. Another 2 feet tomorrow, another foot on Friday, then the temperature spikes to nearly 60 and all the roads get washed out from the equivalent of 6" of rain hits them all at once.

Admin will be reinstalling the frontpage system (Drupal) once he has some free time. The forums are unaffected, thankfully.

All this talk about snow makes me a little happier about being stuck in the desert. My folks back home aren't dealing with lake effect snow or anything, but it's still more than I'd want to be shoveling.

Now, come summer time when it's 140 F outside, I might be yearning for the snow. For now, though, I'm going to enjoy wearing short sleeves and shorts in November.

It is just a habit I picked up over the years. I have learned to speak as clearly and concisely as possible in a manner that tries to avoid people reading into what I say. I have had issues in the past where people have misinterpreted something I said and having it cause issues. That and I simply speak more formally than most people.

Not to mention that I am too exhausted right now to even try to have a personality.

In fairness, it was closer to 2 miles. I still have no idea how I pulled that off. I could barely lift my legs through the snow on the way back even walking through the path I had made on the way there. This morning, people were using the path I made and struggling immensely in the process.

All that snow sounds like fun. I've jumped off roofs into much less than that. I think you should go for it.

That is actually a lot of fun. When I used to go camping in the wintertime, I would build an igloo or snow cave if the conditions permitted it. Much warmer than a tent. The snow pack right now is perfect for that kind of thing.

If you have a deck you could jump off that instead of your roof. Still fun.

No deck. My porch has a pile of snow hanging off it waiting to kill the person it drops on.

For us, this is our usual timetable for things like getting to work (measurments are for overnight snowfall):
6" or less: No delays
6"-12": Maybe 5-10min delay
12"-18": 10-15min delay
18"-24": Depends on plow situation but usually 30min delay. Some schools and businesses consider closing. Potential for travel bans if the snow is blowing hard or drifting. Roads are usually drivable within a few hours.
24"-36": Schools closed, some travel bans. Main streets often cleared within hours. Maybe a day for side streets depending on location.
36+": Travel bans, possible state of emergency. Not going to be going anywhere for a while.

We are fairly well prepared for snow. We use heavy construction equipment to move it. Our plows are often things like refitted dump trucks (salt spreader in the back). It takes something on the level we are dealing with yesterday/today to slow them down much.
Timetable for Alabama:
Less than 0.25": OMG shut down the schools and stay home from work!
0.25" or more: IT'S THE APOCALYPSE!!!!
