Basement dweller nerds translate character, excitement and charisma as doucheness

I'm above ground at least 10% of the time.

Yeah, it's a Pro Tour top 8 in Hawaii. I don't mind someone being excited about that.
I'm also happy Ari Won since he's probably one of the 5 best magic writers currently.

Yeah that I agree with. My comments certainly weren't directed at his behaviour at this PT - by all means be as excited as you like - but at his behaviour in general. Which like my own, is less than stellar. Just an observation.
Still, this isn't the time, a deserving win, hope he enjoys it.

I for one, welcome our new Abzan overlords.

I like midrange formats and this one looks exciting; as others have commented there's quite a few playable decks moving forward. Hopefully sonething for Mardu and Temur fans can be worked out.
Kinda want to splash big Garruk now in UB to go way over these midrange decks!

Kinda cool we have a standard combo deck too.

I agree with that.

I am upset simply because I am already sick of seeing Siege Rhinos and all the copycats will make them more common. I do like seeing a viable combo deck in Standard for once.
I agree with Riki's tweet about Ari's behavior at the table:
Riki Hayashi @mtgRikipedia
Showing emotion is fine. You would be excited if you made PT finals too. @armlx has been amicable in conversation with opponents. #ptktk

Seige Rhino is less annoying than Thragtusk, so methods to combat the enemy will be developed - at least now it has a face.

Might be worthwhile to run Erebos in the side again.

Not sure I agree. You could chump thrag forever and go over the top. Trample pushes Rhino a bit too far.

Guess the biggest question is, what's the best way to deal with Rhino?
Posted: Mon Oct 13, 2014 3:52 am

The answer is not Jeskai.......

I personally don't think Ari's a douche, just a lot of people seems to think so.
I love Siege Rhino. It's interesting that they originally had it as a 3 drop.

You kill rhino, he doesn't leave a homie behind
You also don't have Resto making him genuinely infuriating to play against.

They've got Whip though. If you exile him, they have ways to remove your chain or ring. Trample annoys me more.

Yeah Thragtusk is way more powerful ~ but it may be that there are not as powerful tools to handle it either. I dunno. I'm not that concerned with it as I'm playing UB control; the decks two drops are much more concerning for me.
Floch and McClaren are also players to watch now hey?

I'm writing this off as obligatory good natured Keith complaining
It'll all be fine in the end. If it's not fine, then it isn't over.

I'm not trying to complain, just trying to convey that I lost to it this weekend, solely because of the trample and it's something to watch out for / try to anticipate. You can't chump block a Rhino.

What do we think is the best way to kill it? Banishing Light? Downfall?

For the record, I still hate Jeskai charm more.

I've had a bad experience using Banishing Light/Chained to the Rocks with Rhino, and them just getting rid of my enchantment.

Siege Rhino feels much more powerful then thragtusk.
Tusk was extends games, Rhino ends them.
Relevantly, I'm saying this from the perspective of an agro player and I could usually kill me opponent by the tame they played Tusk or the turn after it came out.

Disdainful stroke is the best answer to rhino.

Maybe Utter End should be considered more seriously?

Silence the Believers / counterspells are good.

Disdainful Stroke is looking a lot more attractive in this meta.

Do you think Silence is better than Utter End?

That or play some sultai Murderous cut deck.

In Mardu Colors, I like utter end, then Silence the Believers.

I'd probably take banishing light before silence actually.

Well then...maybe sac outlets plus threatens?
Silence is better in UB, otherwise play the other options I think.

The better question is...what should I play at GP LA?
I'm leaning Jeskai in the same vein as McClaren's deck.

This weekend I
Harness by Force'd a
Polukranos, World Eater and a mosterous
Stormbreath Dragon, swung for 17, then sacced them to my
Butcher of the Horde. Felt good man.

Do you really think that's a good idea? Abzan is going to be the deck to beat...

It's the deck I'm most comfortable with. It's either Jeskai deck wins or Abzen Aggro.
