But upon entering the city, we got turned around somewhere due to the excess of one-way streets but eventually, we got within striking distance of our hotel.
From Todd Anderson.
If I remember correctly my English teacher said you shouldnt make sentences
like this. Is this sentence grammatically correct in US-English?
Not remotely. You should never start a sentence with "but" unless you know what you're doing.
This guy, clearly, does not.
Even if you know what you are doing, it's still poor form in written English. Unless you are a prize winning author (in which case, King Kong ain't got shit on you) you should steer clear of that shit.
Not really, it's quite common. Writing should reflect the language, and starting sentences that way often does.
And just who do you think you are calling us poor forumists?
Forums aren't formal English.
I'm an English teacher, I'm allowed to be anal. I'm trying to keep the next generation from tockn lik dis #YOLO #SWag #iduntnedenglishclases

Anyone else use FFsplit? I have it on my computer now, but am having difficulty getting started.

I tried FFsplit this weekend, what trouble are you having?
Posted: Thu Jul 24, 2014 6:41 pm
by Lightning_Dolt
It's probably something very basic, but I can't get FFsplit to record anything other than it's own layer, even after adding the window capture layer (modo) it just records itself.

Disable Aero if you're using W7, add a window capture and set it to the correct application by clicking on the MTGO window and enable Layered Windows.
Posted: Thu Jul 24, 2014 6:45 pm
by hamfactorial
The old v3 client could work without layered windows, but the new one is tres garbage. If you're streaming, be aware that anything you drag in front of the MTGO window will be visible.

I am using windows 7, Enable Aero is not checked. Where do I enable Layered windows?
I am sorry, I am a total noob.

by hamfactorial
Layered Windows is an option available in the properties of the window capture you make for MTGO. By memory, it's in the 2nd column (1st column being scenes).

If all else fails, YouTube probably has a tutorial for FFsplit. It was similar enough to OBS that I figured it out.

I tried the youtube videos, but there were all setting it up, and there was something really simple that I wasn't catching. You helped me catch it.

Given the major headaches involved streaming the v4 client (even MJ and Kibler were having big problems), it will likely remain a hot topic until we get it all ironed out.

I was playing Magic 2015 today and my deck has to have all of these shitty, boring commons, and I thought, "this must be what it's like to always play red."

Dumb question. Does your monitor need to be that size or have I been retarded all this time?

Yes, but I don't understand what that has to do with the first part of the question.

Streaming/recording programs are generally limited to the maximum resolution of your current display.
Flat panel monitors are generally run at a fixed resolution (the native 1:1 resolution where each pixel corresponds to a virtual point), but older CRT monitors can be run at higher resolutions. Most can do 1080p as a minimum, so you're probably fine.
My monitor has a native 1920x1200 resolution, so I crop 120 pixels vertically to broadcast in 1080p.

You should broadcast in the closest available HD resolution, which is 720p.

After three sealed events and six drafts I'd say green has the best commons now; most of them going in any archetype and are high on synergy ~ green goes well with white, black and blue.
Reds cheap commons are only good if you get enough of them; red is low on synergy which is problematic when the relative power level of the format is low and the most powerful archetypes are synergy based ~ I'd say the best three red commons are lightning strike, rummaging goblin and scrapyard mongrel. Red goes best with black and is ok with blue or white but not exciting.
Blue is MASSIVELY underrated in this set right now and as a result under drafted.

Blues not underrated, just clearly the weakest color. It's not like Avacyn restored where black was actively bad, but the blue is mostly just a support color as most of the U cards encourage durdling which is something you should try to actively avoid in this set.
I can't comment to much on the best commons/uncommons as I've only done maybe 3/4 total limited events.
I will say though that I think Inferno fist is easily top 3 in red and I'm not sure if I like scrapyard mongrel better then rough riders. 5/3 tramplers are obviously huge, but most decks are generally not gonna have more then a couple artifacts and as I've quickly learned, I ain't tryna play bronze sables as "fine filler" when there's a lot of ways to just blank X/1 creatures.
I still think reds the best individual color, but I also think the best decks will generally have white in them because of the aforementioned necessity of synergy
in decks.

Control strategies have performed the best in our testing. Red lends itself well to a controlling colour in this format, hence the commons I listed.
Blue is absolutely a support colour, though I did get a sweet double welkin tern, triple frost lynx plus military intelligence deck, with some artifacts, an aeronaut, two lightning strike, two scrapyard mongrel and a will forged golem. It was gas.
In general I've found UG the best colour pair.
I've also taken Jace's ingenuity over master of predicaments twice and both times ingenuity was massively better than master would have been.
