Nobody making these videos is trying to be racist, or giving a fuck about anything other than having fun or having their video seen. The origin is meaningless. The dad and his two year old son dancing on webcam have no obligation to give a shit about Harlem. You're not new to the Internet.

I'm defending the Harlem Shake meme because people should be able to put on motorcycle helmets and not have someone named Cole say that black people are poor

a bunch of people shaking around like they're having a seizure isn't the harlem shake.
they're taking something that is shaking around like a seizure victim and rebranding it as the harlem shake.
they get hits and LOL reblogs, which turn into money, because i am not new to the internet and know how that works.
harlem doesn't get the money for the thing they invented.

this is just like when places outside of philly began selling philly cheese-steaks and then everyone stopped buying cheese-steaks in philly

i mean were these poor Harlem black folks raking in youtube cash before this goofy version of the dance came out? is this dance siphoning off their viral cash flow?

I guess Harlem should have collectively rounded up a few bucks for an iPhone if all they were missing was an uploader

this is just like that time those black people were doing wacky black people things so we put on some kind of facial covering and did a more cartoonish version of their wacky inhuman antics.
second comedy option:
this is just like when people went to harlem.

Do the descendants of General Tso get paid whenever someone buys some type of General Tso's chicken?

I think Kijin is highly overestimating the good fortune that is going to find the people with the popular Harlem Shake videos.

About
“Harlem Shake”, not to be confused with the hip hop dance style, is the title of a 2012 heavy bass instrumental track produced by Baauer. In February 2013, the song spawned a series of dance videos that begin with a masked individual dancing alone in a group before suddenly cutting to a wild dance party featuring the entire group. Despite what the name suggests, the videos present a wide range of hip hop dances, including the Bernie, Twerking as well as improvisations.

i mean memes are just awful in the abstract

Well, so very few of the Harlem shake videos have any actual Harlem Shake dancing (like, 2%) in them that its hard to understand what Kijin is talking about, hence me questioning him. Has he watched many? Most are like Tim and Eric-esque parties.

It's still a pretty dumb trend, although I have watched a bunch to see what the fuss was about and appreciate the track.
And the more mainstream a meme gets, the more annoying it gets.
I know that sounds pretentious but when your grandmother knows 'gangnam style' you'll know what I mean

The meme is named after the song in the meme, not the dance of the same name. This conversation makes no sense and that video was just misleading a bunch of Harlem people.

Meh, the Dadaist in me generally enjoys the nihilistic value of our memetic culture, but when it seeks to be a memetic culture then something has truly gone wrong. I may want to watch the world burn, but that only works if it's not the popular view.

I think many would see your wisdom were they just to understand this simple fact about your personality.
Perhaps in time.

I once worked with a young couple who had a similar problem. The woman had a protein allergy to seminal fluid, which normally wouldn't be much of a problem except her fiance had a condition that caused, um, quick buildup. They discovered this one night when she had to go to the hospital and have her cervix pumped, and afterwards the man got a note from his doctor, like a real doctor, telling our employer he had to give the guy the chance to
masturbate at least twice a day (the doctor recommended six) otherwise the end result might mean that he'd end up literally fucking his girlfriend to death.

Here is my story of how I smoke the dragon up
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called
Honah Lee.
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
