Are you kidding me? I swear that I would target Stardust if I could, lol.

I had another town card without vanilla attached to it.
So you picked the role?
Why did you discard a town card?
You don't answer a question with another question.
I do what I want! You're not my real dad!
What do you mean by "so you picked the role?"

You had another card without Vanilla attached to it and you picked that. Why did you choose to discard Town Vanilla rather than that?
You felt like the role was useful?

I got two town cards, one vanilla and one with a role I wasn't interested in. I don't like playing as scum, but my scum card had a role I wanted.
I picked the town card's alignment and the scum card's role.
I discarded vanilla because it gives the scum team less information to make a NK decision.

At first, I discarded the Mafia Roleblocker card happy that the scum team wouldn't have a roleblocker.
But then I realized, the Mafia Roleblocker is the only card that couldn't be a scum roleblocker. Scum can still have a roleblocker, it'll just come from one of the other alignment's cards.

Woah woah, I just re-read the Black Goo.
If everyone that can target Stardust does, and that's at least five people, this game is over tomorrow when more than half the town is cult.
I'm happy with my vote now.

The Greatest Idea wiki shows Black Goo without an alignment, but you claim to have received a town Black Goo card.

This is not going at all as I planned.

That's what I got in my PM.
I'd have to check on my phone since I don't have access to the wiki right now, but I'm pretty sure rezombad's link to the roles (for Greater, not Greatest) contained town there too.
Okay, I just checked, and it doesn't. Comparing the two, rezmo didn't follow the Role PM's there in a couple of ways (I have no doubt that you can confirm this). It's pretty clear the "town" was just a mistype by the wiki guys, something rezmo must have corrected.

You really didn't see this is the way it would go?
I mean, it's obvious what my move is tonight if you're still alive. I can target you. It's not the most fun way to win a game of mafia, but it's probably the easiest I've ever come across.

Maybe I'm not giving you enough credit. Maybe you did realize that's how it would go. Maybe you're actually a Mafia Paranoid Gun Owner and you're hoping to kill the entire town in one night.

Oh god, I wish.
No, everything I've said is true. Please don't target me. Let's catch scum instead.

I dunno man. Scum doesn't win if cult does. And if the town just mass turns... Isn't that technically a town win anyway?
Posted: Thu Oct 30, 2014 8:32 pm
by RedNihilist
No, it'd be a cult win.
And I'm town but I can't target anybody, so we couldn't achieve a town = cult anyway.
Anyway let's stop this mess, shall we?
Posted: Thu Oct 30, 2014 8:38 pm
by Stardust
What do you propose we do to stop this mess, Red? I'm in the same boat as you since I'll still be town as everyone else turns. This is a glaring failure in my master plan, but I don't really want to get lynched to avoid this scenario.
Posted: Thu Oct 30, 2014 8:40 pm
by Stardust
Actually, I just did a count, and only about 40 of the 118 roles can target (not 100% sure on an exact number, but that's close). It's pretty unlikely that Cult would be able to get a majority by this tactic, so you'd better just stick with your team, Dechs.

Well. I can target you. Any for other people feel like claiming that much and want to win the game now? If there are five of us, we just vote no lynch then become cult and win.
I don't like it, but I can't ignore it. It's a viable plan to victory, so it's worth considering.

It doesn't seem all that bad for you. The Black Goo's win condition is achieved when threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is left alive.
If you're alive, and every townie is converted to the cult, you win since you're town and count towards your own win condition.

Cult is considered a threat to town.

Thoughts on the cards...
1. Dechs Kaison - Discarded: Mafia Roleblocker
2. Lord_Mcdonalds - Discarded: Alien Mass Redirector
3. Stardust - Discarded: Werewolf vanilla
4. Witchhunt - Discarded: Town Conspiracy Theorist
5. Hamfactorial - Discarded: Town Vanilla
6. rcwraspy - Discarded: Mafia Reflexive Doctor
7. Jamie - Discarded: Town Vanilla
8. Rednihilist - Discarded: Town Conspiracy Theorist
9. imopen2 - Discarded: Alien 1-Shot Unlynchable
LMD may be scum simply because a Town Mass Redirector seems immensly powerful, while on scum it's probably beaten out by a Roleblocker or similar. Reason being that this is 1-shot and draws the doc protect (if there is one), so the mafia might not want to waste their shot. On a townie, this is like a combined doc/vig, turning the mafia kill into your own.
Conspiracy Theorist is pretty weak, and even comes with a downside. Discarding a town role is no problem assuming he had another in his hand. (By the way, hammy, this is an example of rezmo adding "Town" to his roles where the wiki doesn't include that)
Uh, what?
rezmo, you said each card would be unique! How is it possible that WitchHunt and RedNihilist both discarded the same card?

Vote Dechs Kaison.
You know what? I'm happy just lynching you before anyone else claims anything. Nothing is going to come of this but the reveal of more role information, and knocking off someone who so far this game has contributed nothing but disbelief at my claim (even going so far as to start theorizing about me being a mafia paranoid gun owner??) sounds like a fair chance of hitting scum to me.

Oh yeah. That's weird. I wonder why they chose to do that. The Aliens have it hard enough already with only the one nightkill.

Yes. Aliens are screwed in this setup. They only get one NK because the powers are so strong, but you can't get the power you pick the alien alignment.

I've got it! You're mafia all by yourself, aren't you Dechs? You don't mind nightkilling me to become part of the Cult since the lost nightkill would be more than made up for by even one added friend (if someone else was foolish enough to target me as well). The fact that you're now completely ignoring my accusation supports this too. You need to play safe and keep your nose clean, right?

The cards are unique in the sense they're numbered.
Multiple different cards have the same wording - i.e. #1 through #12 say Vanilla Townie.
-
DK, stop thinking about this Cult thing, it's not healthy.
-
Aliens are underpowered and that's probably why they're well positioned - who would choose to be an alien cop?
-
Hi everyone, what's up?

Usually people vote for someone - it doesn't matter who - because it forces them to reveal information or they die. That's literally the defense rcwraspy used "I won't say anything because 2 votes isn't enough". I'd err on the side of rcwraspy is playing it safe and not something like he has a big powerrole he can't even hint at.
vote Dechs Kaison

Even if the Aliens are underpowered they know two people discarded the Conspiracy Theorist cards, so they're probably feeling pretty confident. Then again, just as many Aliens were discarded as Theorists, so who knows?
Unvote: Jamie
As for Stardust, people targeting him as town just makes him lose. If he's actually town it makes sense why he wants people to not target, it hurts more than helps. That's either a well constructed ruse or an honest post, I'm willing to lean honest post. That in mind, I think the aggro on Stardust needs to be pulled back a little bit Dech.

I don't like this. I don't think there's a scenario where this comes out in his favor as black goo. It seems like a subtle attempt to weed out some townies to me.

Yes, Stardust. I'm the only scum and if you lynch me you win the game. Good job; broken game. Exactly how am I trying to keep my nose down, though? I need to wrap my head around that accusation.
Well, hey, I already unvoted Stardust. How much more do you want me to pull back?
I admit the cult thing is probably a bad idea anyway. Just had to think about it a little more. All it takes is a well placed night kill and that plan goes to hell. And with the potential for as many as three faction night kills...
I hate Day ones.

The only thing we know for sure about this setup is that there are at least five townies. That's the only thing Rez promised with the setup.
Hopefully the werewolves kill the scum and the scum kill the werewolves. I'm fairly certain we don't have to worry about aliens.

If there is a vig, I would say shoot dusty, his op is basically a huge piece of wifom, that I feel ultimately confuses the town more than anything
His accusatory tone is off putting as well, iirc, he takes a more leading role as a town and he feels more antagonistic here

Like sure, saying something is nice but why, there isn't any reason to do so, you aren't being pressured, and while it's reasonable to assume there are day powers, why say anything this early?

You live in some fairytale where you are guaranteed to be alive past day 2 where there is workable information. Workable information is way better than detecting scum but on day one where there is literally no information, any claims or plans or scumreads are literal gold.
And that's the point! No one is being pressured! Please vote people! Anyone! Get them to speak!
