Aye, cursed pride is on this shit. He's town today.
If you think I'm town, how come you aren't voting for me as the Judge?
Because I'm voting me - the only person I know for sure is town today.
what information do you gain from this line of play?

Cultist, what?

Oh, the faction thing?

Because, CM told me we'll all be factions eventually. We have no idea what the factions will be. From what the rules are saying, I think there's a Cartel head or two, and they'll be Town. I believe the Police are already scum and will stay that way throughout the game. I have no idea how they handled "if you attempt to recruit Scum" scenarios, though.

This is why I was hesitant to play this game. Too many unknowns in the mechanics.
This is all pretty weird to me.

When I interpreted the mechanics, I took the Judge as a Kingmaker/King role that could "execute" someone, with a few bells and whistles. The police at the bottom felt like the cop/priest in
this setup, so I have no idea where you get the idea that the police are "always scum". I found the recruiting, plus the flavor of the cartels vs the police, as being a cult.

Can you walk me through your thought process at.. assuming the exact opposite of what I wrote? Because your assumptions are pretty darn foreign to me, and I'd like to know where you're at.

Any real reason why you guys posted these after I mentioned it?

Huh, taking the easy way out. Okay.

Regardless, self-voting is frowned upon in Mafia. Some mods include suicide mechanics against this.

Plus, WE don't know you're Town. If everyone insists on voting themselves to be safe, the game will go nowhere.

I get the nagging suspicion you are laying it on a bit thick here.

IGMEOY too.
I agree with this, though.

Sure.
Police at night can attempt to investigate a player. All successful investigations by the Police are made public and the judge will decide the fate of the player. All judge choices are also made public.

Players sent away do not count towards the number of players in a faction.

Once a majority of votes on a player are reached, that day is over and the following day the player voted will be the judge. Anyone can become a
Judge.

Cartels will attempt to recruit at night by selling drugs.

The win con for all factions is to become the majority faction.
Hmm. Actually, now that I read it again, I don't think the Scum are Police. In fact, I don't think there is a definite scum team. I'd assumed, since this is Mafia, that there was one, and that, based on the name of the game and the mechanics, that it would be the Police, but that first part snuffs out that theory.

So, I guess it is more cult-like.

I swear I read this, but I've slept since then. :/

Anyone.

And I agree. I'm not planning on gunning down anyone yet - not until I have a better grasp of what we're dealing with. This game is pretty odd. I'm starting to suspect - based on the "become the majority faction" global win con, that this game will have zero kills (save for maybe some random vig role) and it's going to be all about getting the most player slots under your belt in a mafia-themed game of hungry hungry hippos

You really should think a little harder before you attempt to play this game.

It should be perfectly reasonable to you that I'd rather speculate about the setup than scumhunt in a game like this(at this stage, especially.)

I'm treating this as nigh-bastard(cults are bastard on my homesite, anyhow) and in a bastard game you have to figure out what gameboard you're playing with before you start moving pieces.

The intro post mentions the lack of lynching and nightkills. I had to
turn to the mafia wiki in regards to the "cult" bit being discussed so I could put myself on the same page here and that makes a bit more sense to me.

The thing I'm interested in is the Judge mechanic. Voting makes a player the Judge, not setting them up for a lynch. I don't know if anyone else has played with something similar to this, but my question is when a player is made Judge, are the choices listed in regards to themselves or toward other players?

The reverse
of Police being Scum. I went into the game thinking this from the beginning because I know how CM feels about cops.
Wait, why did you just accept that response?

Fair enough, though if my theory (now) is correct, there is no scum.

Based on circumstances so far, no way would I vote Kaze for Judge.

I don't understand what you're asking, but maybe this will help.

We are going to vote for who we want to be the Judge. The Day will end once we've decided on who will be the Judge. CM will post a vote count when he ends the Day, then it will go into Night.

If that doesn't help, please rephrase your question.

Who do you think the main malefactor is this game, Manders?

Do you believe there to be one or perhaps multiple?

Posted: Sat Mar 01, 2014 10:06 am
by Manders
As was pointed out by...that one guy, I don't think there is a malefactor.

This game is a lot like Fahrenheit 451 Mafia on MTGS, I think.

There was no scum. There were 3 factions, and they all had to kill the others. I think. Something like that.

This one just doesn't appear to entail killing. Just putting people in jail for periods of time.

Aye. I came to a similar conclusion.

I believe it's this: There are three sets of players. Police, dealers, and the rest. This is basically a game between two cults and who can gather the most people.

By the way, my role is a role that benefits from being recruited by a specific faction, but is harmed if recruited by any other.

why do I always miss RVS?

I guess it was random judge stage in this game?

Kaze says he has an ability that benefits from being recruited by one team but is harmed if the other. DO NOT LET KAZE BE JUDGE. That's basically a coin-flip until more setup information and we can't trust it yet.

Manders, Kaze, CP all have a decent amount of posts so far but it's really all just hashing out setup and misunderstandings - other than not trusting the coin-flip nature of Kaze's role, it's all null.
