I haven't got anything to say right now.
You've been very aggressive and took the spotlight, but I don't really feel like it led to anything good as it made people go overly defensive / disinterested.

I spent a day thinking about this and I'm just not comfortable with the reaction here. I can't say there's anything wrong with it, but it just doesn't feel like an honest town reaction.

In the quote, Az is just pointing out how openly anti-town Imopen has been, but then concludes that Imopen could still be town. It reads like a veiled accusation and yet Imopen's first reaction is "maybe you're town after all." Why? Why now? What about Az's quote would lead Imopen to think that Az was town?

His initial reaction against me was based on my some random negative
comment I made about him early on, IIRC. One of my RVS comments, maybe? So now that it looks to him like I've got a nuanced viewpoint on him and I'm not leaping to kill him off, he's feeling better about me.

It's a pretty common and natural townie reaction. It's not good logic or procedure, but you see it all the time.

*rereads* Nah, I guess he just didn't like my posting style from the very beginning and thought he saw some other kind of random slip. But regardless, it's a pretty common townie reaction to not want to kill people who don't seem to be excited about killing you back.

Not quite. He went from "he didn't understand the town role..." which was his only apparent reason for wanting you hanged to "Hmmm, maybe you're town after all" when you basically accuse him of being anti-town.

That's what bothers me. You never addressed his reasons for voting you, yet suddenly thinks you're town because you said he's not playing in town's best interest.

Whenever someone tells me that I'm town, I become suspicious of them
immediately. I don't know if telling a townie that he's town is a scummy way of buddying, but this feels that way to me.

Scum always knows who's town in a single mafia team setup, so these D1 town reads feel suspicious.
