I agree that it's over-costed, but I just want it to work in a Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord deck

I'm upset it wasn't RU or RW so I could put him in Pristaxcontrombmodruu.

That is better than my idea. What a dick play though.

But...but...its commander material only. Green Ramp assistance can pull it off in Prosh deck.
Prossh does enough broken things without needing to invest 6 mana in a 4/4 that just sits there for a turn hoping no one kills it (especially with a board-wipe when you're just asking for that since Champ need multiple other creatures to use its ability effectively) and
then investing another 5 mana
and x creatures to
maybe get some sort of effect (because it's not like people play gy hate in EDH, right?).
Pass.

Sigh...so true. I would rather use Genesis for getting my stuff back.

Or
Zombify or
Victimize or
Animate Dead or
Necromancy... Even
Rise of the Dark Realms costs less total mana!

Actually, this card might be good enough for a Savra deck. Looping your guys repeatedly while everyone else sacrifices all of theirs might make the cut. Maybe.

I have faced multiple builds of jank Minotaur builds and they all fall apart to timed/well placed removal? Is this going to be a deck as I don't really see a big threat without win condition Minotuar showing up. Reckoner is sweet but is just the mid level threat.
This ain't no sliver or elf deck in the making....right?

Just FYI, you can find C/UC 4x sets on ebay for just over $30 at present. The UC's seem to be shaping up pretty well, enough so that I gabbed an extra set just now for all the casual building that will be going on around here (my lady's son is also trying to learn magic...he loves all the BGM's and WW's, so he's welcome to them).

Do you guys think nivmagus elemental would have a place? It's pretty cute with cipher but I dunno if it'd be worth it.

I don't think blue-heavy is where you want to be anyway.
In my mind, the shell is
[deck]
4 Tormented Hero
4 Pain Seer
4 Agent of the Fates
4 Thoughtseize
4 Boon of Erebos
[/deck]
That leads to a decision on what other color to splash. Blue gives Triton Tactics, Hidden Strings (janky), Mizzium Skin, Artisan of Forms, and counterspells. Red gives Madcap Skills, Young Pyromancer, Spike Jester, Dreadbore, and burn.

I know you guys are all competitive and shit, so you're probably the best people to ask.
I want to get into modern. I play mono-black in Legacy, so I'd like to branch to something else. I heard something about a
Norin the Wary modern deck and it got me excited. Do you guys know what this deck is and is it at all viable?

It's like soul sisters, but with Purphoros and Norin. It might be viable, but if you're going to invest in a two-color deck, you have much better options.

I was watching Ip Man: The Final Fight last night. One of Master Ip's friends was sad that he had to sell his 8th child so he could feed the rest of his family.
I immediately thought of Suga.

No idea, but Norin +
Champion of the Parish + Soul Sisters is probably a deck.
Not a good one, of course, but still something.

It's a much more interesting deck than Soul Sisters. MJ was talking about it on his stream yesterday. It looks fun and I think it 4-0d a couple of DEs recently, but it's not a deck I'd invest in.
I'm pretty much in the UR Delver camp after having a blast with the deck a couple of weeks ago at FNM.
I can't post fast enough.

Invest is such a strong word. I don't really want to throw a ton of money at this.
My Legacy deck only cost me $150 total. It does well enough. It's very flexible, doesn't really have any terrible matchups and heavily punishes mistakes.
I'm not really looking to build the best meta-deck out there. I'd rather have something like my Legacy deck. Fringe and more dependent on skill than cost. Does something like this even exist?

If you want to be highly competative; not throwing alot of money at Modern is hard. Affinity is not to bad but the Mox's are not cheap. Splinter Twin is cool but Fetch Lands are a car payment. Pod is going up in price in many aspects of the deck. Jund is NOT cheap at all. Burn is ok if you don't play fetch lands
(many versions). Soul Sisters is fairly cheap, but might not be your play style.
Legacy play and Modern play are very different. Not the same at all in speed and control. May want to researcg TCG player modern deck lists and dive in to get an idea what the meta is. Your local Modern Fnm might be easier than Teir 1 decks. Mine is as only 3 out of 20 actually spend on Modern staples.

If you're looking to play Modern FNM, most of your favorite decks from any given Standard season can hang if you upgrade a few cards and develop a good sideboard with appropriate hate for your meta or established hate against defined archetypes.
Run them up against Jund 10 times and you might only win 3-4, but you won't be spending a grand on it.

Also, Dechs, I would point you in the direction of this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1181
The thread specifically, not as much the OP, although that has good information too. Val and I have some lists that are pretty decent and don't cost an arm and a leg. My Esper list in particular is still very strong and flies far enough under the radar that you don't find yourself getting hated out very much. Graveyard hate isn't even particularly good against it out of the sideboard since you can switch plans very easily due to Gifts Ungiven being such an awesome and flexible card.
