But yeah, I like the phoenix. Depending on what it debuts at, I may grab a playset early.
I'd say if it debuts at more then $5 a pop, the I'd likely wait. It is mythic though, so dunno what they'll put it at. I think it has pretty good potential.
My guess is $10 starting for Phoenix, $20 for Mogis. If SCG feels a need to test the waters, they will start at something more like $8 and $16 respectively. Mythic creatures rarely debut any lower than that simply because of their mathematical probability and early demand.
Of course, we wouldn't have to guess if SCG would get on the stick and post them for sale...

Regrettably our dragon rare for this set is another bin card...
Forgestoker Dragon 4
Creature - Dragon
Flying
1 : Forgestoker Dragon deals 1 damage to target creature. That creature can't block this combat. Activate this ability only if Forgestoker Dragon is attacking.

Just caught an interesting reminder over on Sally...Mogis potentiates casting Rakdos. It still doesn't likely make Rakdos playable in competitive Magic, but very interesting flavorwise and for the casual tables.

I've never seen them here before.
I figured this was a clan of pony haters.
It probably still is, the vocal ones just haven't shown up yet.

Phoenix is sweet. I'm (surprisingly) less impressed with Mogis, although I'm sure a control list will pop up that is all removal + Mogis.

Mogis + DD I would guess...forcing creature sacrifice on both your and their turns would up the viability against aggro.

Someone said before that casual dragons breath fire, while competitive ones breath thunder. It isn't too far from the truth, I guess.

Fated Retribution looks like a sweet EDH card, I'm excited for that. Hero of Iroas is also pretty sweet. Making auras cost 1 less? Sounds like fun to me.

My guess is that the polar opposite for BR Control is going to be Hexproof Auras, given the potentiator that just got spoiled in white (Heracles?).
Unless we happen to get another sweeper, perhaps in black...
EDIT: ^ ...and Alex points to said hero as we speak.

Not for competitive but for prerelease sealed/limited he is okay. Breaks up board stalls and lets you alpha to win since sealed/draft comes down to
who wins the creature war.

20 Island
Sideboard
1 Curse of Swine
1 Cyclonic Rift
1 Dissolve
2 Domestication

2 Jace, Memory Adept
2 Negate

Like the Phoenix.
Mogis gets a big yawn from me.
My Little Pony isn't bad - I watch it with my daughter sometimes.
That's all for now.

Phoenix is pretty damn strong. I like it. It might suffer from opponent making the decision as you allow them to choose between having to face slow dragon or fast phoenix... but I guess (I hope!) powerlevel of a card will be good enough.
Mogis is okay. I mean, the effect is supercool - but he has little to no impact to be honest. Just compare him to Purphoros. Yep.
Fanatic of Xenagos is hero of the day though. RG Aggro really suffered from lack of good 3CMC drop. And this guy... this guy is a MOFO.
As overall: classic Mono Red seems to be back as we finally get stronk 4CMC Drop. RG Aggro's line-up seems to be finally complete.
The Phoenix looks strong. Zealot into Phoenix into Phoenix will be making people cry for a while.
Mogis looks interesting. It makes me wonder what hexproof garbage is coming our way, though.

Pregnancy update
We're now officially past the due date, which was Sunday. The ultrasound on Friday showed that both baby and mama are doing just fine. The doctor is supposed to call us tomorrow to schedule for the next available induction opening, which probably means that she'll start having contractions again tonight since that is what happened with Dude.

WTF. SCG posted the limited bomb rares that nobody wants for Constructed pre-orders, but not the official spoils from last night. Grrr.

Hey redthirst, you remember how I was writing stuffs and you kind of liked it? Well, I don't have any more of that story, but that's because I started working on a new project.
A World Without Magic
The tavern doors broke open as two shadowed travelers stepped into the light of the hearth. The patrons fell into uncomfortable silence at the sight of their red and purple clergy cowls; the tavern keeper was already on his way over to them. This far from the cities and at this time of night, they could only be out on a hunt. The taller of the pair pulled back his hood and shook off the rain.
"Lock that wretch in a room, get the horses to stable, then you can eat."
The woman to whom he spoke nodded, then stepped forward, yanking on a chain. A half drowned man lurched into sight and crashed to the floor, unable to save himself as his hands were chained together and again to his belt. Rolling to
his back, he groaned in pain and growled at his captors through the rag tied tight around his mouth. In this moment, sound returned to the tavern in the form of mumbled contempt. Though his face lacked the brand, they knew only a sorcerer would be bound and gagged this way.
"On your feet, wretch." The clergyman turned away from the tavern keeper long enough to kick his captive in the ribs. His partner pulled upward on the chain, barely aiding the criminal to his feet.
People were returning to their meal and drink while the woman led through the tavern toward the stairs, but the sorcerer had not lost all his attention. Most of the patrons muttered curses at him as he passed; a few even spat at him. They had no fear of a sorcerer who could neither speak nor move to perform his heretical arts. Just before the staircase was reached, one of the drunkards fell off his stool and tumbled into the pair. This time it was the woman who hit the ground; the sorcerer was merely pinned between the drunk and
a wall. Her hood fell back as she did, loose red curls exploding outward. Her face was smooth and young, but bore two brands, once as a sorceress, and once again as a Repentant Hunter.
"A thousand, thousand apologies, miss," behind a soft smile and rosy cheeks, his hazel eyes gushed sincerity. His voice was moderately slurred; in spite of that, it aimed to impress, "I'm so sorry and so pleased to have bumped into you. Call me Kaz, and you?"
She noticed his extended hand first, then his light, loose and black clothing. She even observed his minor bits of silver jewelry, a chain about his neck, one ring, a bracelet, and belt buckle. Finally, she became aware that his eyes were far too attentive to her features, no longer obscured by hood and cloak. What she did not notice, perhaps as she became flustered, was the metal tine he had slipped into the hand of her prisoner.
That catch your attention?

Fanatic of Xenagos is very good. Looks like Gruul might finally have enough tools to be a force in the meta, but it looks like heavy green is better than heavy red (as it is right now).
Going heavy green gives you Experiment One and Dryad Militant at the one slot, then BTE at the two. You can chain a red or green two drop off of him, like Gore-House Chainwalker for a three-power two drop or even Satyr Hedonist for a potential turn three five drop like Stormbreath Dragon. Then you have Fanatic of Xenagos, which is a 4/4 if the tribute cost is paid which evolves a 3/3 Experiment One. Throw in Domri Rade, a couple Xenagos, and maybe a mix of Mizzium Mortars and Clan Defiance and you've got yourself one hell of a deck.
