Just FYI...Chapin is arguing that this card will be playable. He characterizes it as a "loudly engineered" developer card that is meant to fill a gap/set a balance in the meta. The point of the card, he opines, is that it kills every meaningful planeswalker that gets in the way of mono-red, as well as Blood Baron and an early (unprotected) Aetherling. While not as flexible and useful as HDF, it does give mono-red a means of clearing its major obstacles, such as JAoT. Thus, he posits that it may be (and is intended to be) played in Constructed. With WU getting their scryland, it seems in a vacuum to exist as a potential power check, but it's far from perfect.

Pain Seer is to clunky. A bear that draws a card if he survived attacking, opponents removal, plus you also most likely need removal yourself to get him through T3, meaning you lock up mana. That is a long list of stuff compared to Bob who just need to duck 1 turn of removal.

I´m more excited about Rare creatures with Tribute. That common one is close to being good.

Redthirst, you watching the panthers and 49ers game. It's a Texas rule to support any team facing a California team.
My favorite NFL team is always the last team to beat the Packers, so I was actually pulling for the 49ers.

And...Seer still selling out, now at $7.99. Gotta love the new card fever...

@zeman - I take all of the SCG writer's angles during spoiler seasons to be targeted at selling marginal cards. He was justifying the the cost of the burn spell in a red aggro deck by saying such decks rarely want to see more than 4 lands, and from there was trying to sell it as a control spell even through UR is not likely to fly. Never mind that red aggro shouldn't be running reactionary cards in the board...

Like, the matchups it where it would be good....are already matchups that are good and you don't want that effect. Having trouble with midrange creatures? Best to splash white or black and get efficient and effective answers. Mono Red needs some cards for the Mono U matchup and that's it. Probably RB is fine, human subtheme or not.

you know, this is going to sound weird, but I can see situations where Pain Seer is the better choice over a strict Dark Confidant reprint in the current standard. For instance, people argued about whether or not Bob would see play in the current mono black devotion deck since it runs Gray Merchant, at 5cmc, as a 4-of. Now you don't have to tap the guy if you can't take the life hit off the draw. Add any amount of scry to the equation and it gets better.

You mean a card that featured heavily in the top 8 of worlds 2010? Memoricide was very good.
When you put it next to some of the other buy-a-box promos it pales pretty greatly. Celestial Colonnade? Birds of Paradise? Supreme Verdict...? Yeah, it's a stinker.

So, I kinda have a question for everybody.
I'm starting to feel kinda bummed out and burned out about magic.

I'm tired of switching decks a lot, and wanna stick with R/b, but it's so inconsistent that I just get really frustrated. I also am bummed out because I am starting to feel like there's no point in paying for bigger tourneys when I'm too crap to place well, and am questioning myself hard on that.

What do y'all do to keep from
being burned out? At this rate I might just drop everything sides from casual play until born of the gods.
I only play FNM but I am slightly burned out as well on FNM as all I have been seeing is mono blue or UW. Boring! I play 3 matches of commander before playing FNM. Also, I work out everyday now and it is a mind breather to play magic now between that. Balence out your day to keep your mind fresh and busy to keep the daily grind at a minimum. It's a mind game. Work does not count.
Bro do you even lift?
I just stated last week cause I got a gift certificate to a gym half a mile from my house (weight lifting). I need to bench press 56% of my body weight for Dallas PD fitness test. I had already been running, push ups, sit ups, shuttle running, and siimple work outs on my home gym machine. Bench press is new to me. I go every moring and eavening to bech press my max weight (65 pounds) at reps of 15 for 4 times. Last rep is a burn out to push
myself. Building muscle to look ripped is not what i want. My goal is fit and lean. Any advice?

Your city only has one walmart? They are locusts in quantity where I live. Anyone hurt? How many stopped to take pictures or videos before actually helping?

Redthirst, you watching the panthers and 49ers game. It's a Texas rule to support any team facing a California team.
Technically there's four or five in the metro area, but only one in the town proper.

I don't think anyone is hurt - the fire was apparently a diversion of sorts. Some guy poured accelerant all over the clothing section and lit it up; while everyone was distracted he smashed the display case in the electronics
department, filled up pillow case in true cat burglar style, and took off.
Thats a great plan. Unfortunately that of act of arson puts them in the many law enforcement eyes/jursdictions.

I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was caught already. Was he wearing a mask the entire time, or did he know where ALL the cameras were and never looked at any of them, or even in their directions? Did he drive away in a car with a license plate? Was he speeding when he drove away?

Wraith's right - he added a LOT of additional crimes he can be charged for when his intent was simply larceny/theft. And now they get to tack on "with a deadly weapon" to each additional charge because of the fire - and they don't merge, they're unique charges.

With all the things they can charge him with, if they
decide to have him serve each sentence consecutively instead of concurrently he could be away for a few decades.

Combo of spring leak war drum + Pain Seer is nifty, but I cannot see it being a great addition to current teir one decks or becoming a teir one deck without more to support it. Read the Bones and Underworld Conections are better for more dig (RtB) or devotion with U.C. Also controlled life
loss seems better. I might have pre-order at a 1.99, but anything more seems watefull as it seems weak for Modern.

Also, I am not sure on the interpretation of domestic terrorism laws, but starting a fire in a crowded/busy store in the manner that they did could fall under D.T..

So, I kinda have a question for everybody.
I'm starting to feel kinda bummed out and burned out about magic.

I'm tired of switching decks a lot, and wanna stick with R/b, but it's so inconsistent that I just get really frustrated. I also am bummed out because I am starting to feel
like there's no point in paying for bigger tourneys when I'm too crap to place well, and am questioning myself hard on that.

What do y'all do to keep from being burned out?
Last rep is a burn out to push myself. Building muscle to look ripped is not what i want. My goal is fit and lean. Any advice?
1) Proper diet. This includes plenty of water. As a matter of fact, drink nothing but water, making exceptions for milk and protein shake.
2) Since you are new, take it easy on the weights. You seem to already be doing that. Concentrate on having good form. If you start out with poor form and move up in weight while still having bad form you will REALLY mess yourself up.
3) Don't overtrain. Isolate your exercises to a couple of muscle groups. Don't train the same muscle groups on back-to-back days. If you are doing bench press every day you are wrong.

Anyone read todays article on Tcg Player?
http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=11593

This deck looks pretty good in stopping the Blue/UW terror. I would change a few cards for WitchStalker, but that is just me.

@Valderith, thanks for the advice. I really do want to train on the bench press every day at least once. I do work other muscle groups as I drill 2 post holes by hand everyday to refence 10 acres and put in new pens. It works muscles I don't use on the bench press. 50 pound steel post hole diggers and a 60 pound steel rock bar are mean weights.
I have to make 56% by february 19, but that looks far reaching as I might have to stop the routine for a week or 2 unless i find a gym to use in Corpus Christi, TX. March testing looks more like my deadline. Boooooooo!
My grandad just had a catastrophic dumb
accident. My grandmother and Aunt just returned from a shopping trip and was grandmother was knocking on the door. My grandad was in the shower and ran to the door to open it (while in a towl). He slipped on the floor hit his shoulder and head. He has a cuncussion, shattered shoulder, broken humerous, and on the watch list for stroke. Stupid...just fucking stupid. My grandmother has advanced arthritis and can barely do anything. Grandfather was living comfortably careing for her without needing retirement home. Now...I don't know. Warning for the rest of you with aging parents or grandparents. It is the stupid shit like this that cause folks to become financial burdens and at risk for poor care as Obama care is ruining their future. Old folks tend to have OCD or "do it now chor mentallity" that cause poor choices to be made. I am not being a poor family member, but i just went through this with my dads side of the famaily. I know what is coming.

Wraith, that's terrible news. I'm sorry, I'll send some good vibes your way.

P.s. thanks Obama
