We could have the required post count be however many posts Kaze has, so the requirement goes up over time but he can trade from the get-go without any more tantrums.
There's that sardonic humor I've missed since leaving sally. I almost forgot where I was for a moment.

if that were posted on mtgs, k8 would be issued an infraction and have his posted edited with some bold red text. since i see none of those things here, i'm not sure you actually have ever been on mtgs before.

Except if he was an mtgs mod flaming a regular user in which case it would be a perfectly legit post on mtgs

An additional counterpoint to the "spam up to minimum required trade amount":
People have eyes. If someone sees a user has 100-1000 posts and joined yesterday, and now they are asking for Basic Islands for their Foreign BB NM/- Mox Sapphire, something should go off that hey maybe this guy is running a scam and i should not trade with them. Clearly, the scam will not always be that obvious, and clearly there are cases of (Lance) waiting for years before cleaning out trade threads on the grounds that "I'm the superior officer, you send to me first, buddy." No system is perfect. Because no system is perfect is not a reason to not offer any system or any means of protection.
If we're just going to go with 250 post count compromise, cool beans. But if we're still going to discuss this and the voucher system is essentially off the table (how do we judge if a user is credible enough to distribute a trader
voucher? how does it not just leave us open to a ponzi scheme with several colluding users?), what are alternatives to protect users?
And if the alternative we have in place to protect users is "if you get robbed, we had this sign on the wall that said management was no responsible for your lost or stolen goods, too bad so sad," explain to me how "cross your fingers and hope someone isn't a scumbag" is going to get users to be confident in trading and stay to trade because I missed that day of education in my years of trading and sales on- and offline.

sorry, correction to my post: if this were mtgs, we would be talking about disciplining him in private and expand on that by saying his
post was taken out of context and that it was all a big misunderstanding before returning to doing absolutely nothing about it.

To contribute to the topic and providing a counterpoint about the postcount, I believe most of us who have a 1000+ postcount might be a bit biased about the "easyness" of reaching 500-1000 posts. For most of us, we were here from the get go and we posted a lot immediately when we started building this community.
This said I do remember when I joined the most corruptly managed magic site on the Internet, I did take a while before raking 100-200 posts because I knew nobody on the site and was essentially shy of providing many contributions/posts while I was essentially a stranger/nobody, so I can empathize with the situation of "that guy" who is not invited by someone already around here and wants to join the community. I doubt it would be so easy for such a person to rake 500 posts in such a short amount of time, compared to an already established member who has all his buddies around.
I do think the
postcount requirement would deter many rippers, but you can't set the bar too high, hence why I suggested 100 posts but I can live with 250. We could maybe also require a minimum of 2weeks membership in addition to the 250posts so as to avoid having a very committed ripper spamming his way to the trade forum in a few days.

those are both modest proposals that make the bar of entry low but enough to trip someone who's just in it to scam and/or not participate.

As an addendum that I thought of earlier, I would be amenable to grandfathering in the members of the site that were registered before this discussion started, if it's possible to do so with the software.
Though, I think most of them already have 250 posts...

Bah. What the fuck ever. I see I'll never be able to escape unsavory people.
I just wish you'd kindly stop treating me like I'm walking around with some undeserved sense of entitlement. I spent the better part of a day off writing that Tron primer in the Modern section, and I've provided many people with (semi)helpful input on their decks and such. How I am considered to be a lesser contributor to the community compared to to someone who has 4000+ posts about nothing in particular is beyond me.
I've already conceded that the official trade forum may as well have a post requirement, or rather, stopped really concerning myself over it. I'll not speak on the matter further. Kindly leave me out of your conversation now.

Redthirst, we've established that we're willing to lose a few potential members signing up in favor of a system we feel better protects from ripping. If immediate trading without site participation is the line people are drawing for being on the site or not, then we're fine to let them go.
Exactly. I mean we've moved down from 1000 posts to 250. I think we should go ahead and implement this policy (with the caveat that inter-clan trades are permitted at your own risk regardless of post count).
So, basically we have a solution and there's no reason to go on
with this us vs. them attitude?
If I'm tired of drama it must be a horse already beaten to death.

Adventure seeker on an empty street,
Just an alley creeper, light on his feet
A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt
With the pain and anger can't see a way out,
It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say,
Gotta find me a future move out of my way,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
Listen all you people, come gather round
I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground
Just give me what I know is mine,
People do you hear me, just give me the sign,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth
Here's to the future for the dreams of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I'm a man with a one track mind,
So much to do in one life time (people do you hear me)
Not a man for
compromise and where's and why's and living lies
So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all,
And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth,
Here's to the future, hear the cry of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now.

he made a joke because you were the one who raised that you couldn't trade under the proposed rules, because it was that comment that turned into a larger hobbling of progressing the introduction of this new feature (because then it turned into absolutely no vs. absolutely yes post limit cap on trading argument with no middle course of discussion for like 2-3 pages). it was a joke. relax.
