I'm sure it will motivate scammers to go elsewhere.
You get it!

Let's up the required post count.

I'm all for fostering community involvement; but I think its helpful to make the bait a little bit easier for newcomers to reach.

100 posts is a good barrier for rippers, but it's low enough that people who are actually interested in the community, or prospectively interested in the community, to jump in. It shouldn't take an average poster more than a few months of posting to become trade eligible (say, one post per day.)

It'd be nice to be able to grab people who start off interested primarily for trading, suck them in with a modest posting requirement, get them acclimated to the site, and use the trade-bait as a hook to get them into the community. If the barrier to entry is too high, however, we're going to be unnecessarily exclusionary and unwelcoming.

there actually is a hidden trade forum it's just so hidden that only a few members can even comprehend it, let alone render it on their computer.

Completely shutting down the site will motivate even more scammers to go elsewhere... maybe we should do that?

Or maybe there is a such thing as diminishing returns - maybe losing a few dozen potential members and good traders for every scammer isn't worth it.

Who knows?

Do you have any idea how hypocritical it is for you to be constantly up on your soap box about "quality content" and "great posters"?

Most of the spam he does is in designated spamming threads, making it ironically on topic

But we don't need to get testy over this, that's why were talking.
Eric, Ren and Jensen were activists
Heads loaded with theory, their hearts are filled with passion
Shared the same left wing politics
Liked the same music, they were part of the protest movement
Now, Anna presented herself as a feminist
Studied the way they talked and dressed

Eric fell in love with Anna at the meeting of the crime think conference
He didn't know it but Anna was an FBI informant

I get that spamming as King Spam (or whatever you call yourself from week to week) is appropriate, but that doesn't make it any less spam - which is hypocritical if you want this site to be all about quality content.

Quality spam is a thing, you know?

Also lol arguments and calling people this and that. And every time you gringos say strawman I laugh my ass out. It's like they train you in the arts of debate and you're dying to prove your skills.

So, how about 333 posts?

I'm onboard with Az. If we are not allowing loopholes like a vouch system, I think anything beyond 100posts is too steep.

If I had known that asking about a trade thread was going to cause such an argument, I wouldn't have opened my mouth in the first place. Damn.

Seriously, with the sardonic and scathing tone in the majority of the posts in this thread, I feel like I'm being reprimanded for even suggesting it.

Never mind. I'll just stick to my clan like I intended. Cheers.

I'm enjoying this and am glad you did. I inherited a fairly broken trade community and with a lot of people have spent the last 15 months trying to build something that was usable and didn't totally suck. (insert your opinion here) Until recently I haven't really thought at all about how to start a trade community from scratch. I've talked to a few people about how to do
this and everyone wants security first and a large enough public stock to trade efficiently second. Personally I love forums/groups/communities with a cost of entry and am interested to see if this idea takes hold here.

The idea of proving yourself to be a contributing member BEFORE you get to enter into real-value exchanges is really interesting. It puts a non-monetary control that I have not seen before.

Anyway, no need for everyone to get rustled about this. sure we may bitch out a little bit more that what we were used to in that other site, but that's a good thing actually since we don't have people breathing over our shoulders.

Lets keep hashing out ideas, I think we made significant progress already, so we might be close to hammering something that will please/displease everyone equally.

One thing that I have talked about lately is how to make a trade community unique. You guys have your Forums that would distinguish DTR-Trades from MTGS-Trades or MOTL or Pojo. But, I've been thinking that more than ~just~ the community could be looked into. Just what's been on my mind.

anything below 250 is a joke but 250 is fine.

100 is a joke because there are members like zehpynoir on mtgs who could literally shit out 100 posts a day and nobody knows who the fuck they are

they just appeared, mid-shat, and kept crapping out posts

true spam is an art form

The forum posts itself can and probably should be hidden, but I would like to see the Trade section itself made visible so that people can ask about it. Part of the reason there's so much drama surrounding this subject is because it is quite a popular part of any MTG community (and quite a positive thing too, IMMHO).

we know they will post like that because there is precedent set on MTGS where users with 0 posts can hop into the trading forum and let er' rip. this was previously established and is the entire reason we're arguing for a post count baseline in the first place. we have become the oroboros at this point.
