A cursory look at the interwebs has me leaning towards this knife as an everyday carry: http://www.gerbergear.com/Tactical/Kniv ... _31-001734

@Kaze - I tend to shy away from serrated blades because it takes longer to sharpen them. I use a small round diamond honer for the serrated section of my knife. Also, in a pinch, I've used my keys to open packages at work.
@Zeman - You're a lucky man. You've found someone with similar interests and what seems to be a fun-loving personality. Hold on tight to her and never let go.![(^-^)b ](./images/smilies/smileup.gif)

Apologies...I was debating the double-L spelling but didn't consider single P in the last syllable. I get messed with all the time b/c I'm legally Gerald after my grandad, but nicknamed Jerry by my folks for my uncle. Confuses the hell out of people.Phillipa*
*there are like six ways to spell it correctly.
@Raida - Sorry for missing the direction of your query...I was guessing you had the relationship figured out...

But serrated blades also need to be sharpened less often, correct?@Kaze - I tend to shy away from serrated blades because it takes longer to sharpen them. I use a small round diamond honer for the serrated section of my knife. Also, in a pinch, I've used my keys to open packages at work.
I've used my keys, too. I hate sticky keys, though x.x
I'm leaning towards partially-serrated edged knives mainly so I can easily cut through material such as paracord or seatbelt if need be. Is there a better option for this?

You get more wiggle room with sharpening serrated blades. They don't need to be as sharp as a plain edge, as lone as the cut doesn't need to be clean.
Plain blades are better for push cuts (away from you), or when you need the cut to be clean. Serrated blades are better for slicing cuts (towards you) and cutting through hard or tough materials.

Lol. That's where I originally got my info from years ago. Great minds think alike.

Gerber makes a damn good, inexpensive knife. I've been carrying something similar to this for a while now. It lays flat, and the clip is strong enough that it hasn't worn out at all. The blade is sturdy and holds an edge.Anyone have recommendations for a sturdy, inexpensiveish pocket knife?

Edit: Here's the exact one I have:

No real need
for a serrated edge.
