Purphy can be had for $10-12 now, for those who were waiting for it to drop. If he doesn't see a good deck soon, he could keep falling. I'd love to be able to pick up a foil for EDH for $15

I'm still waiting for her (Because it insisted so) rebuttal on why the satyr is bad against black devo. Apparently she ignored that.
I'd wager that if she was an active player when Scars was active, she would complain why everyone are paying life for a -5/-5 effect or drawing 3 cards.

Lose one to Lightning Strike. They are at 18 and you're 20. In your scenario they are at 18 and you're at 17. Which is better?
I could use more of these players in modo. If that 3 life loss was juicy enough for them to bite at and ignore my Ashley (Which is a more relevant threat in mirror), it would make my matches easier.
@Helios: Good ol Purphy is rather cheap over at modo (5 tix or so).
@Valdarith: Same with zem. Working and will check on it later.
@Darthstabber: I forgot to comment on it, but I don't really like
Sunhome Guildmage due to its steep activation cost, even for a manasink.

Would not mind that MODO price translating over IRL, not at all.

There was a lot she decided to ignore in that thread. She tried a gish gallop of derp, and it failed spectacularly.
As for your second point, you're not far off. In an earlier post about the Theros Prerelease, she complains that the life cost for Erebos's card drawing ability is too steep.

Man...I absolutely detest getting sick. Some gut bug grabbed me and completely turned me into its bitch...ugh. About this time last night I woke from passing out in the living room and actually considered going to the ER...I had a rhythmic "whooshing" in my ears that was likely being caused by a serious blood pressure spike, my hand joints felt like they were full of glass (inflammatory chemistry in our bodies can do that when fighting to kill off a bug) and I felt like my head was afire. Scary shit, I am here to tell you.
I got up at 0530 to get my kids up and moving for school; went back to bed at 0630 figuring I'd catch just a little more sleep as I was feeling marginally better though still battling a headache. Next thing I remember was waking and looking at the clock: Damn-near 2PM!! I felt like a bear trying to come out of hibernation and my dogs were having an absolute fit because they were still crated.
I can do without any more such experiences, thank you very much.
On the MtG front, I've been pretty much just theorycrafting and living vicariously through others--I'm thinking at this point I'm going to write Sally off for good. After looking at a number of "Competitive" threads over there today, I recognized the repeating pattern: Person starts a reasonably decent topic, a few people try to carry on a productive conversation, then a flock of scrubs with the combined brainpower of a paramecium descend and utterly derail all meaningful conversation with total-horseshit-my-mind-is-made-up-don't-confuse-me-with-facts-because-this-guy-did-this-at-this-FNM comments and then perist in arguing their pet theories as though they are somehow lifechanging. It's utterly frustrating, and as Helios observed, I feel like I'm leaving pieces of my life wasted and unrecoverable every time I pull up a
thread over there. It seriously punctuates the impact this clan has had on me...I am far from a talented player, but my understanding of the game has grown exponentially over our year together. You people rock, plain and simple.
I'm also dealing with a bit of melancholy tonight...the marching band competitive season is drawing to a close, and I feel that keen sense of loss that accompanies the end of such shared experiences. These kids and parents are such fantastic, dedicated and enthusiastic people...I'm going to very much miss spending time with them and seeing the band take its dreams into reality as a single, focused entity.
For any of you who are interested to see what I've been blathering on about over these past weeks, the following is one of the best performances of "What If?" by the Jaguar Pride. All parental bias aside, take a look at this and realize that this is not a pro-level band but rather a bunch of teenagers who've practiced together two nights a week who are
generating this level of drama and emotion...it is truly awe-inspiring.

First place deck is cute. It seems like basically someone wanted to play mono-black but liked naya cards and wanted to use there planeswalkers.

Gah, photo, that sounds miserable. Are you at least feeling better after your hibernation?
My group has succumbed to some awful chest cold thing. My wife starts these coughing fits that last for minutes. At least she no longer sounds like she's going to hack up a lung or something.
The band sounds amazing. You have every right to feel pride in that group.

I'm back to about 85% at this point...I worked last night, though it was pretty exhausting. I fasted for most of the day yesterday beforehand, so my innards had a chance to calm down and recover.
With regards to slutty band chicks...not so much in evidence with this group, though I'm sure there are definitely some active in the carnal explorations out of the public eye. My son got his first heartache from crushing on one of his front ensemble friends who he found is already in a committed relationship. She's a wonderful girl--best mallet player in the school, big sis is the head drum major, super family--but a year ahead of him in age and likely a bit more so in maturity. Still, the way he talks about her (when I can get him to) gives me hope...he's into all the cool stuff about her and the things they have in common, which suggests he's at least starting off thinking with the right head.

Hah--you guys only get the better parts of the highlight reel...there are as many moments where I lose it and scream like an archetypal drill sergeant. It's really, REALLY hard to watch one of my kids start down a path that I know is going to end in a crash and to further realize that they aren't going to believe what I'm telling them until they hit said wall. I also have no patience whatsoever with apathy/butt-dragging, and my daughter often generates a lot of needless drama by plopping down and getting in a stubborn huff when asked to do something routine around the house. I accept that I'm only human and a single parent at that, but I lose my cool more often than I'm comfortable
with. But then, we all have our own shitpiles we have to try and not step in...I do at least make it a point even in the bad moments to let them know they are loved, even if they're not in the mood to hear it mid-tantrum.

Yes there are some NASTY bugs going around in the US at least right now...sorry to hear you're down as well, Kaze.
PSA time from your friendly neighborhood drug dealer: Take extra care to wash your hands and wipe off shopping cart handles and such in public right now. Much of what's out there right now is particulate transmission more so than airborne, so do yourself a favor and grab some antibacterial wipes to keep handy for at least the next few weeks.
@windstrider - So sorry that the fam's down; lmk if I can do anything to help, my friend.

@LP: That deck is hilarious. I was just telling nuwen last night "The way to beat these mono black decks is just to jam a shit ton of assemble the legions. Desecration demon? Lolu. No enchantment removal?"
Then I realized the black decks could next level by having SBd illness in the ranks >___>

Holy crap. My daughter takes this to the next level. At times like that, I start to channel Bernie Mac. "I will fuck a kid up! I'm from the old school. I'll kick a kid's ass. When a kid get one years old, I believe you got the right to hit 'em in the throat or the stomach. If you're grown enough to talk back, you're grown enough to get fucked up!"

There's a caveat if you choose this method that my dad learned the hardway. As a dad you are constant getting further away from your physical prime, and as a kid you are constantly getting closer, one of these days your kid is going to break the kitchen table with you if stick with this method. Then my mom called the cops on me, I told the cops exactly what happened, they
laughed their asses off and left.

I'm a firm believer in using pain as a deterrent when punishing children because it works better than anything else I've seen. Like, you can immediately tell the difference between children in my family that are/were spanked and those that weren't.
That being said, I stopped spanking my daughter around age 6-ish. Two reasons:
1. It was no longer necessary: my daughter knew how to act right, and
2. At that point she was old enough to be reasoned with.

Spanking is perfectly fine when done safely.

I've had enough teenage drama to last several lifetimes. What my daughter has yet to understand is how consequences grow more serious as she grows older. After what she went through, I'd have thought she would begin to grasp that concept, but she hasn't.
As for spanking, I'm certainly not opposed to it. In any form.

I'm totally joking though. I would never do that, even if I wanted to. I was just remembering Bernie Mac's stand up routine.
